      ‘  uh           if you insist. they’re not from around here. not originally, anyway. they’ve got this hard shell around their heart, but give it a minute and you’ll find they’ve got a real gooey center. and that’s not even the best part about them, y’know  ?  it’s that they’re always willing to spice things up a bit that really drives me crazy. hot damn        i love CHALUPAS.  ’

          there’s the annoying, eager to please dimwit he knows and tolerates. his grin widens, pulling at the s c a r s on his cheeks as his eyes narrow into little, black holes. “ are ya really that sorry, darlin’? ” joker’s tone is SHARP but he brings a hand up to pat her head stiff but gently. his other hand is still behind his back, twirling his favorite knife because he has never trusted harley. he’s aware that she must know that.

           a dark chuckles passes between them and he brings his hand down to cup her face tenderly. “ that’s what happens when your main squeeze isn’t around to help ya !! ” not that he had ever really helped her. “ i’ve ah– missed ya too, harls. so, you’re done playing with chumps and ready to come back to daddy ?? ”

           “  c’mon,  jay,  what does a gal gotta do to make it up to ya ??  ”  he could,  truly,  want her back.  in the same instance,  he could,  even as his  h a n d  meets her skin with softness, be planning PUNISHMENT for her abandoning him.  his unpredictability makes him the most frightening person she’s ever met.  “  you’re the king,  i’m ya queen,  ‘member ?? ”  she presses her face into his hand,  brushes her lips against his fingertips.

             but there was a time when she was just as unhinged as he is,   part of her that REMAINS so. and where her heart freezes over at the sight of his lips curling to a cheshire grin  (  once upon a time,  it had fluttered )  --  she still feels the pull.  fall down the rabbit hole,  give in.  ONLY  he doesn’t OWN her anymore.  nor is she a slave to her inward chaos.   “  cross my heart,  ”  she starts,  tracing her finger in an X across his chest,  “  and hope ta die  --  i’ll never leave again.  take me back,  puddin’.  this registration act  ??  we’ll give ‘em all somethin’ REAL to be crazed,  shakin’ in their boots about.  ”   she takes a chance,  draws closer.  meets his lips just barely with hers for a brief moment. “  just like old times.  ”

“I thought you knew all about my love life at this point.”

“THE LATTER.” Matt is sure. “Three strikes, I’m out!!” Batter up. The next guy better be good. “Are you writing a blog??” Her advice resembles DEAR ABBY, Matt thinks.

           “THAT MUCH IS RATHER OBVIOUS to just about anyone. -TT- do not even begin to think that i give a damn about these matters. love is a distraction, just as other emotions are as well. no body needs another to make them feel like they’re worth anything. it’s a ridiculous notion.” 

“Oh please, let’s not open that can of worms. All I’ve gotten over the years are some real trust issues.”

“Never really had one, really. Too focused on my music, at first, and now I got a whole other set of distractions nowadays. Why do you ask?”

“Things are just… weird.” The word pregnant rang through her mind like a gunshot, breaking up her thoughts again as her hands twitched towards her belly. She clenched them into fists, kept them in her lap. “Nobody interesting?” 

“The infamous Harley Quinn wants to know about my love life? Aren’t I the reporter?”

“Well you look a little young, so I called you a kid.” Letting out a soft hum, Carmel eyes look over at the blonde. ”I believe in primal urges. Lust, greed, wrath. Humans are simple creatures, why complicate it,” Letting out a soft chuckle, he shakes his head. “sounds like you’ve been sucker-punched love?”
