minnie stood in front of the bathroom mirror, applying the final touches to her makeup while periodically checking the baby monitor balanced on the counter. on the small screen, james was sprawled across his crib in a sleeping position that couldn't possibly be comfortable, one stuffed animal trapped beneath him.
she stepped back from the mirror and gave herself a once-over. nothing too dramatic. just enough effort to remind herself she was still minnie and not exclusively "jimmy's mom" twenty-four hours a day.
now she was going to have a night out with one of her favorite girls; miyeon. after what felt like months of schedules, missed plans, diaper changes, late-night feedings, and trying to function on whatever sleep she could get, she was getting a night out with her best friend.
grabbing her purse, minnie spared one last glance toward the monitor before heading out the door and saying goodbye to johnny on her way out. by the time she arrived, the bar was already alive with conversation and music spilling through the speakers. warm lights reflected off polished surfaces while groups occupied booths and tables scattered throughout the room.
after checking in with the host, she made her way toward the reserved table near the back. sliding into her seat, minnie set her purse beside her and immediately reached for one of the drink menus.
minnie took out her phone, snapping a picture of the menu before sending it to miyeon. a confirmation that she had arrived and was already at their table. she hit send and set her phone down beside her drink menu. now she waited.

And one would think such a place is considered home or at least a second home with how much time one spends their lifetime in itâthe lighting, the endless white corridors folding into each other bearing the personality of a very expensive maze or escape room, the same three practice rooms appearing in different places like the building and the company itself had decided to gaslight whoever enters past a certain hour. Even now, after all these years, the walls always carry that familiar hum. Air conditioning. Elevator chimes somewhere distant. Someone's muffled laughter slipping from behind a closed door before disappearing again. Chatters of artists and executives agreeing and disagreeing on comeback concepts. Trainees' soles squeaking against shiny wooden floorboards.
It remembers everyoneâeach distinct cadence of footsteps, each rushed greetings, each bad decisions made after midnight, each younger versions of themselves.
And apparently, it also remembers Minnie getting lost.
â Hi. â
Quiet. Simple. Almost too late, because the greeting came from her first. Corners of the mouth moving before the will could stop it from becoming obvious.
â It has been a while. â
Vision shifting toward the hall she trailed from earlier, then toward its opposite side, mind calculating all possible routes where johnny could have sent her through. The wrong elevator. The old conference room. The floor with identical doors that even any staff members still occasionally entered with false confidence and hope.
â I saw him earlier. He said he was going to pick something from the studio... ten minutes ago. â
Gaze dropping briefly to her phone, then back to her face. Slow. Tired maybe. A little amused. Still Minnie. Not the exact same, no. Nobody was, himself included. Motherhood had placed something new in her, or maybe brought something forward that had always been thereâJohnny's wife. James' mother.
But still Minnie.
â Congratulations, by the way. Late, I know... but properly meant. Marriage. The baby. Surviving Johnny's directions long enough to reproduce with him. All of it. â
Amusement flickering, yet caught immediately before it becomes something generous enough to be filed under trespassing.
â Come on, I'll walk you before you end up in accounting. Or worse, A&R. And if he tells you he gave clear directions... â
Expression stays solemn and serious with a faint tilt of the head.
â I'll lie for you. â
a laugh escaped her before she could stop it, bright and immediate in a way that felt strangely familiar.
"accounting?" she echoed. "wow. so you really do think i'm hopeless."
her hand pressed dramatically against her chest, though the smile lingering on her face ruined any attempt at sounding offended. if anything, she looked relieved. relieved to have found someone she knew. relieved to finally have a direction. relieved to not spend another ten minutes wandering the building pretending she knew where she was going.
"and here i thought becoming a mother would've magically improved my sense of direction." certainly didn't improve her corny jokes.
phone slipping into her bag, minnie fell into step beside him without much thought, her posture relaxing as they started down the corridor. the building felt oddly nostalgic today. maybe because she'd spent so much time away from it lately. maybe because every hallway seemed to carry some memory attached to it.
his congratulations caught her off guard. for a moment, she just looked at him, then her expression softened.
"thank you." the words came quieter than before, genuine and unhurried. "better before james starts college."
a small laugh followed as she shook her head.
"though surviving johnny's directions might actually be the most impressive achievement out of everything you listed." her eyes rolled fondly toward the ceiling.
"seriously. he texted me three separate directions, and somehow each one contradicted the last." she paused. "i'm starting to think he enjoys watching me get lost."
whether that was true or not remained up for debate. for a few moments, the only sound was their footsteps moving through the hallway.
"how have you been?" she admitted after a beat, glancing around. "word around the street was you released an album. congratulations, by the way. late, i know, but properly meant." another small smile tugged at her lips as she looked over at him at the innocent teasing as she returned the words back to him. .
"and for the record, i'm holding you to that." a finger pointed lightly in his direction. "if johnny insists he gave me clear instructions, i fully expect you to back me up." the smile widened slightly. "you've already committed to the lie, taeyong. there's no taking it back now."

one would think that minnie could easily navigate inside of the sm building like the back of her hand by now. except she made another loop around the same floor in search of johnny. squinting at the same door plaque before immediately realizing she had no idea where she was.
"don't think this is wh-" the words slipped out under her breath as she glanced down at her phone. there was a message from johnny somewhere in the endless string of texts she'd been skimming through. a quiet sigh escaped her. "i swear, if he sent me on a scavenger hunt, i'm filing for divorce." the threat held absolutely no weight behind it. still muttering to herself, minnie turned the corner, only to stop short when a familiar face appeared down the hall.
"oh, thank god" immediate relief washed over her features. "taeyong."
suddenly, she looked much less like someone trying to navigate the building and much more like someone who'd been caught being hopelessly lost.
"please tell me you've seen johnny today." she pressed a hand dramatically against her chest. "i've been wandering around this building for ten minutes, and at this point i'm starting to think he gave me the wrong directions on purpose." a beat passed before her smile softened. "hi, by the way. it's been a while." @tyongmoney

MINNIE ⥠MONO (260205)
Yunho stood quietly in the hall, moving to put his phone on vibrate, that way he could feel it it someone called, but it did bother the baby. He glanced down at the bags at his feet. He might have gone overboard, but he adored children and as his eomma always said it takes a village. So he bought whatever was mentioned. He looks up when the door opens, flashing a warm smile. He grabs the bags, carrying them inside. He slips off his shoes, moving to set the bags to the side. "Cong.." He stops to lower his voice. "congratulations..." he says softly and nodding towards the bags. "My eomma listed off a bunch of ideas and i just bought them all, and i hope i got the right sizes." He laughs softly as he bends down to pull out his own slippers from his backpack and slipping them on before following her to what is the kitchen. He takes in his surroundings, trying to be quiet not wanting to bother the baby. He leans against the counter. "Just a water is fine. That way you can sit, you look tired. Having a baby is hard work it seems." He nods as his smile softens. "Jut been busy with acting, made a movie, mini drama. Oh and we all are filming solo mvs form the in your fantasy album. Mine released not long ago." He giggles softly. "I think your life changed way more than mine did though."
minnieâs smile was immediate. â"ou didnât have to bring anything, yunho," she said, though her tone already carried that note of fond defeat. she glanced at the mountain of bags now sitting near the doorway, a quiet laugh slipping out. "actually," she looked up at him again, eyes narrowing playfully, "you definitely went overboard. your eommaâs probably the one who should be congratulated for this level of efficiency."
she moved toward the counter, reaching for a couple glasses, but paused when he spoke. his insistence made her laugh softly again, something tender threading through the sound. "youâre sweet. okay, fine, just water then." she poured him a glass and leaned back against the counter beside him, cradling hers between her hands. "hard work is one way to put it," she admitted. "i donât think iâve slept through the night since the hospital. but then i look at him and itâs like everything else quiets down for a bit. like my brain forgets how exhausted i am."
she smiled faintly, sipping her water before glancing at him again. "so youâve been busy," she mused, her expression brightening. "movie, mini drama, solo mv - look at you, mr. superstar." she nudged his arm lightly with her elbow, teasing slipping naturally into her tone. "i saw the clip from your mv on my feed, by the way. very good!" there was a flicker of pride in her eyes, though. "youâve always worked so hard, yunho."
her tone softened again, a faint exhale slipping through. "youâre right though, my life definitely changed more." a laugh, breathy and a little disbelieving. "sometimes i still canât believe this is it... me, a mom." she gave a small shake of her head. "i still feel like iâm figuring it out every day." her gaze lifted to him, a tiny smile curving at the corner of her lips. "but iâm glad you came. itâs nice having someone here who reminds me of, well⌠the world outside of naps and diapers." she tilted her head toward him, teasing again. "though iâm warning you now, if you hold james and he falls asleep faster than with me, i might actually cry."
minnie opened the door with one arm curled protectively around james, his tiny head resting against her shoulder. when she saw mingyu standing there, tall as ever and grinning despite the faint exhaustion clinging to him, her expression eased into something warm and relieved.
âyou actually made it,â she said, a light laugh slipping out as she stepped aside to let him in. âi was starting to think your schedule swallowed you whole again.â her tone was teasing, but the affection beneath it was clear, the kind that comes from missing someone whoâs been gone too long. inside, the apartment carried the quiet hum of a home that hadnât truly rested in weeks. sunlight filtered through soft curtains, brushing over a baby blanket draped across the couch. minnie adjusted james slightly, brushing her thumb across his back before glancing at mingyu again.
âi know you have to leave soon,â she continued gently, âso thank you for squeezing me, and us, into your day.â a faint smile tugged at her lips as she nodded toward the couch. âcome sit before i start crying and blame it on hormones again.â | @mingooss
Mingyuâs grin widened at the sight of her... tired but radiant, a baby balanced so effortlessly against her shoulder it almost made his chest ache. He toed off his shoes at the door, ducking his head as if he could hide the smile tugging at his lips. âSwallowed me whole, yeah,â he admitted with a laugh that came softer than usual. âAlmost didnât make it out alive. Your texts were my lifeline.â
His eyes flicked toward James, his voice dipping lower, warmer. âWow... he got bigger. Every time I see him, itâs like he levels up or something. I blink and heâs a new person.â He leaned closer, careful not to startle the baby, and grinned. âYouâre gonna forget me at this rate, huh? Uncle Gyu who?â
The joke lingered in the air, but so did something quieter underneath it. He moved to the couch when she gestured, rubbing a hand at the back of his neck before sinking into the seat. âYou donât have to thank me, Min,â he said after a moment, his tone softening. âYou know Iâd never skip out on you. Even if the worldâs trying to pull me ten different ways.â
He glanced up at her with a crooked smile, trying to lighten the mood. âBesides, if you start crying, Iâll start crying, and thatâs not a good look for me right before I leave.â
minnieâs laugh came softer this time, almost fragile. "a lifeline, huh?" she murmured, glancing over at him with a small, wry smile. "you make it sound dramatic, but youâre not wrong." her free hand brushed over jamesâ back, tracing small, steady circles as if to keep herself grounded. "those weeks were awful," she admitted, voice quieter now. "me crying over everything, johnny, the uncertainty, the hormones, you name it. you were probably terrified to even check your messages at some point." a laugh, thin but real, slipped through. "you couldâve ignored me, but you didnât."
she looked at him for a beat longer than usual, her eyes soft, a little glossy from the exhaustion she hadnât quite shaken. "youâve always been there, gyu. the person who shows up without asking why or how bad it is. i donât think i ever told you how much that meant." her lips twitched into a smile that didnât quite reach her eyes. "and now youâre leaving, too."
the words hung there, gentle, but heavier than she meant them to be. she exhaled, a shaky sound that was half sigh, half laugh. "god, iâm sorry. itâs just, everyoneâs going, one by one. and iâm happy for you, i am. proud, even. itâs just... it feels like every goodbye takes a little more out of me lately." she blinked fast, brushing a thumb under her eye before the tears could win. "ugh. hormones. donât mind me," she muttered, laughing weakly. "you donât need me turning this into a scene."
but then she smiled again, soft and genuine. "just promise youâll eat well and actually sleep when you can, okay? and write, even if itâs just a line. iâll send you updates, pictures, maybe a few videos. james is probably gonna outgrow your memory of him before you even realize it." she reached out to nudge his arm, her tone lightening just slightly. "and donât think youâre getting out of diaper duty when youâre back. iâll even let you pick your punishment, day shift or night shift." then, quieter, barely above a whisper, "iâm really gonna miss you, gyu."
Lisa stayed on the couch after Minnie disappeared down the hall, her fingers fidgeting with the hem of her sleeve. The apartment felt quiet... not the kind of silence that begged to be filled, but the kind that carried life in it. Photos on the walls, the faint scent of baby lotion in the air. It was strange and beautiful all at once, like watching a dream she hadnât known sheâd been waiting to see for her best friend. A soft cry echoed again, and something inside her chest swelled.
When Minnie came back, cradling James, Lisaâs eyes widened, bright and full, her smile blooming before she could stop it. "Oh my god," she breathed, sitting up straighter, careful not to move too suddenly. Her voice was hushed but laced with excitement. "Heâs so tiny, Minnie, heâs actually real. Like a real, tiny human."
She leaned forward, elbows on her knees, eyes flicking between Minnie and the baby with open wonder. "Look at you, all⌠mom-like," she teased softly, but her words carried more awe than humor. "I still remember when we couldnât even keep our plants alive." Sheâd never been one for slowing down long enough to imagine this kind of future for herself, but seeing it reflected in Minnie made it feel real, even possible.
"Iâm so happy for you," Lisa said quietly after a beat, her smile gentle now, sincere in a way that made her voice soften. "You really did it, Min. You found your happily ever after."
Her grin turned lopsided, the playful spark sneaking back in as she tilted her head toward the baby. "Though, I have to admit... this little guy might steal your spotlight for a while. Sorry to say"
She reached out tentatively, fingers brushing the babyâs tiny hand, her expression melting as Jamesâ fingers curled around hers. The sound that escaped her was a mix between a laugh and a quiet gasp. "Okay," she whispered, eyes shining. "Thatâs it. Iâm obsessed."
minnie laughed, the sound spilling out softly as lisa teased her about keeping plants alive. "hey, iâll have you know that little fern in the corner survived because of me," she said, pretending to look offended before grinning. "thatâs personal growth, thank you very much." but when lisa mentioned her "happily ever after," minnie couldnât help the little soundless clap that escaped her hands coming together once in a quick, giddy motion before she looked back at her best friend, smile wide and almost disbelieving. "i know," she breathed out, half-laughing, half-reeling. "i still canât believe it either."
she adjusted james in her arms, her thumb tracing gentle circles on his blanket as if grounding herself. "do you remember those nights? when iâd call you crying at, like, two in the morning?" she asked, a fond groan slipping out. "god, i was such a mess. i kept saying iâd be done with him, that i was moving on, but then the second his name popped up on my phone" she trailed off, shaking her head with a small laugh. "i donât even know what i was holding onto back then. maybe hope, or stupidity, or both."
she smiled at the thought, not sad, just nostalgic, softer around the edges. "i really thought that was it, you know? that it was gonna end there, and iâd just, learn to live without him." a pause, her gaze drifting toward the framed photo of her and johnny on the side table, both of them laughing mid-shot. "but then it all changed."
she looked back at lisa, eyes bright with that quiet, knowing happiness that only best friends recognized. "and now, here we are. married, diapers, late-night feedings, the whole domestic dream i swore wasnât for me." she huffed out a laugh, incredulous. "sometimes i still expect to wake up and realize iâm late for a flight to tokyo or something, not that iâve been up since 3 a.m. because this tiny human wanted a snack."
leaning into the couch cushion, she gave lisa a grin that was both tired and full of love. "funny how things turn out, huh? i used to think my life would always be chaos. and now itâs just⌠quieter. but in the best way." then, after a beat, the teasing glint returned to her eyes. "though, donât think youâre off the hook. i fully expect you to babysit. iâll even let you feed him snacks, within reason." she smirked. "and if he learns some dance moves, iâll know exactly who to blame."
You'd be a really good mom.
For a moment, the words eluded her. Or pretending they did as they hang in the space between them. Soft and unassuming, landing somewhere that makes her chest ache in both the best and worst ways. A thumb idly tracing slow circles against the softness of the blanket, a rhythm meant to keep herself steady... or distracted. Yet, Minnie's voice weaves through anyway, threading into spaces she usually keeps locked up, the ones that echo late at night when the apartment feels too big and the bed too cold and too quiet.
And perhaps she is... to Hank. But Hank isnât an actual child, not someone whoâd inherit her laugh or her smile or... She immediately stops the thought before it can finish painting that phantom of a child.
...
Funny how something so gentle could sound like both a compliment and a promise she wasn't sure she could keep.
Gaze dropping back down to the soft weight of little James, who had decided to gift the room with another of his cute tiny sigh. That little sound elicits a quiet laugh, utterly fond, her thumb shifting to graze his knuckles like the gesture would memorize them. â A really good mum, huh? â Finally echoing Minnie's sentiment, tone light and airy, obviously laced with something so fragile beneath. â You might want to hold that thought until you see me panic over a diaper. â Gosh, how could she forget the horror stories from Johnny? â Also, should I remind you? I'm an absolute menace with snacks, Minnie. I'd be that mom who'd accidentally feeds the kid tiramisu at 7 p.m. and wonders why he's doing cartwheels on the ceiling⸝ â
Yet, even as the words poured out of her, there's an unmistakable softness between the lines. Unfading and lingering because what Minnie just said means too much. â Still... thank you. For saying that... â
A pause, a breath that wasn't quite steady. â And maybe you're right... That it's not about being built for it. You make it sound so easy, the whole 'learning as you go' thing. I think, that's what terrifies me the most... not being bad at it but not knowing how to be good at it right away... â Another silence stretches, just enough to feel it settle in her chest. â And that one day, someone's gonna sneak up on me the way Johnny oppa did with you. Wrong time, wrong place... right person... Because life is funny that way. â
Maybe then, she'll get her own little surpriseâfor that kind of love that would make her want to stay and that kind of love that... maybe doesn't leave this time. Faint, humorless laugh then the familiar ease she wields so well makes a reappearance. â Until then, I'll settle for borrowing this cute little cheat code of yours. I promise I'll pay in milk, cuddles and unsolicited song performances... You know, for musicality. â Playful grin blooms. â And gosh, just Rosie with extra sparkle? Minnie darling, I'd be a disco ball. â
minnie laughed quietly, the sound barely above a breath, her gaze still caught somewhere between rosie and the sleeping weight in her arms. "a disco ball, huh?" she murmured, the corner of her mouth twitching up. "that actually sounds about right for you. bright, dramatic, and completely impossible to ignore." a pause, softer now. "youâd make a good one, someone who makes everything feel lighter, even when itâs not."
"hmm," she started after a beat, "when johnny and i were in our- tango nights,â she smiled at her choice of words. "i told myself i could handle it, that it was fine as long as i didnât ask for more." she bit the inside of her cheek, and after a short while she spoke. "there was another guy, you know? sweet, thoughtful, the kind of person who actually wanted to build something real. and i tried, i really did. but he wasnât johnny." her eyes lowered to james, a thumb smoothing over the blanket near his hand. "and when johnny didn't want to take that next step, i thought maybe that was it. that iâd have to walk away before i completely lost myself. it hurt more than i thought it would."
there was a quiet in her tone now, but it wasnât heavy, just honest. "but somehow, even through all that, i couldnât imagine a future without him in it. and that terrified me, because he was a risk. but he was worth the heartbreak. even if it took a piece of me to get here." she looked up then, a small, knowing smile tugging at her lips. "turns out that piece didnât really go missing, it just made space for him. for this."
she tilted her head toward rosie, her expression softening again, warm and a little teasing. "so perhaps thatâs how itâll happen for you, too. not the easy kind, not the neat, tied-up version, but the kind that finds you when youâre convinced itâs not your turn yet. maybe the timingâs all wrong until itâs suddenly not." her smile deepened, tender and light all at once. "and when that happens, iâll be right here to say 'i told you so.'"
a beat of silence, and then, with quiet mischief, "in the meantime, you can borrow this one. just donât fall too hard for him. heâs got his fatherâs charm."

Wonyoungâs laugh slipped out quietly, the sound small but golden against the hum of the fridge. She glanced down at James again, tracing one finger along the curve of his cheek as if memorizing the texture of new life. "A handful,â she echoed softly, her tone somewhere between teasing and reverent. âHe doesnât look like trouble⌠not yet, anyway.â She looked up at Minnie again, a glint of something thoughtful in her eyes. âYou make it look⌠easy,â she said quietly. âNot the sleeping-three-hours-a-night part,â her lips curved, âbut the rest of it. The calm.â She shifted James gently, brushing her thumb over the soft fabric of his blanket. âHe fits in your arms like heâs known you forever. Itâs so adorable.â
Her gaze softened, voice turning almost wistful. âI used to think I wasnât made for this, too restless, too selfish,â she admitted, half-smiling at herself. âBut watching you⌠I donât know. Maybe one day doesnât sound so far.â Wonyoung tilted her head, amusement flickering again as she added, âAnd donât worry, I wonât tell Johnny youâre secretly running a recruitment campaign. He still thinks I'm a child,â she giggled.
minnie laughed under her breath. "you say that now," she murmured, glancing at james with mock exasperation that softened almost immediately. "give it a week and heâll prove you wrong." her thumb traced a loose pattern along the fabric of jamesâs blanket before she looked back at wonyoung, something quiet settling between them. "easyâs not really the word iâd use," she said after a beat, voice low, thoughtful. "i think i just stopped fighting the mess of it. the noise, the sleepless nights, the constant figuring it out as i go. once you stop trying to make it perfect, it gets lighter." she smiled faintly, half to herself.
her eyes softened, the kind of fondness that came with recognition. "youâd surprise yourself, you know," she said, a touch of sincerity threading through the teasing lilt. "youâve got this warmth about you that people feel even when youâre not trying. thatâs kind of what it takes." then, a quiet laugh slipped out, her smile turning just a little more real. "ahh, my perfect manchild husband," she sighed, shaking her head. "he might still think of you as a kid even years from now. some habits die hard." her tone carried that soft amusement.
she shifted her gaze back to wonyoung, voice softening again. "but really, it means a lot that you came. her voice dropped even quieter, a hint of affection threading through the words. "he seems to like you already."
Of course she'd say that.
A muffled laugh slips through his lips before he can even control it, that boyish sound tempered with something gentler. â Exactly the same? I'm practically bald, a bit tanned and got pruney hands now, Minnie-yah. But sure, I'll take that as a compliment. â A quiet murmur, shifting closer with utmost careful ease. One broad hand supporting the back of the little prince's head, the other resting along the blanket's edge. For someone who's been under rigorous training on how to handle firearms, commanding a whole band of troops, it's such a stark sightânow holding something so fragile. Absurd. Yet somehow, it fits perfectly.
Warmth pulsing steady through ultra soft fabric and impossibly tiny fingers. For a moment, all the usual wit just fades, somewhat evaporating in the air. A rarity only for a selected few. Letting the silence stretch, filled only by the faint, delicate rhythm of the baby's breathing. â Wow... â The syllable hanging under his breath, caught between awe and amusement. â Hey champ, don't worry, I don't always bring five-star chefs every time. Just this once... Just when your eomma had just survived the hardest mission only queens like her could... â Laughter soft just escaping in a quiet curl from his breath, gaze flicking toward Minnie once more. Tender, genuine sincerity sneaking in between his teasing cadence.
But it doesnât last long. Of course it doesnât. The sentiment barely settles before he ruins it with his brand of chaos. Gently shifting little James back into her arms, he clears his throat like punctuation. â Actually, wait. There's one more thing. â Reaching inside the pocket of his jacket, he pulls out something small and something blue, setting it down as if itâs something pricelessâa carton of Foremost UHT chocolate milk, straight from Bangkok. â See? Nothing fancy. Just keeping my promise. â
minnie let out a breath she hadnât realized sheâd been holding, her fingers brushing gently over jamesâs soft blanket as she shifted him slightly in her arms. "i canât even... i donât know where to start," she murmured, voice low and a little raw, the edges of her words softening as her gaze flicked from the chocolate milk back up to him. "you really went all out. again. itâs ridiculous. and yet somehow⌠exactly like you." a small, incredulous smile tugged at her lips, the kind that only came when someone caught her completely off guard in the best way.
her eyes softened as she watched him, noticing the careful ease in how he held james, the familiar quiet confidence tempered with a gentleness she hadnât expected to see outside of fleeting messages and calls.
she let out another quiet laugh, brushing a stray strand of hair from her forehead, and then added, voice a little more playful but still tinged with relief, "but seriously, chocolate milk from bangkok? really, eunwoo? i might have to start expecting this every time you show up. youâre spoiling us both." her gaze lingered, a small warmth in her chest she hadnât quite realized she was missing.
after a moment, she shifted slightly, adjusting james against her, and her expression softened further, more contemplative than teasing. "itâs⌠itâs nice. thank you. again." she said quietly, letting the words hang, almost to herself. a small pause, then a teasing glimmer returned to her eyes. "so⌠howâs it really been? holding up over there? surviving army life without turning into a full-on zombie?" she gave a quiet, fond laugh, letting the comfort of the moment fill the space between them.
