RESULT: Self-Doubt.

Think of the toughest, meanest, least understanding person you've met in your life. Your inner voice is ten times as cruel. The fact that you've managed to accomplish anything despite that bully is a miracle. Do yourself a favor. Next time you start telling yourself there's no point in trying, have a quiet talk with your inner voice, and tell it to buzz off.

Shouto can’t help the grin that starts to form at the corner of his lips. Same old Midoriya, same old fanboy. He quietly turns his gaze away to keep his smile to himself. In some ways, it almost serves as a relief to Todoroki. Even though he’s been gone for three years, it’s like he hasn’t missed anything. It’s odd, but… it truly does feel like he’s come home.

He barely contains his snicker when he sees the third-year and Midoriya bow at each other excessively, clearly both starstruck.

That shock of green hair does happen to look towards his direction and he purposefully keeps his head down, the hood obscuring the few strands of bangs he’s allowed to come out of their braid. Thinking about it… it’s true that no one from U.A. seen him in person with this ridiculously long hair that tumbles just past his shoulders. He wonders if it’s a good choice? People seem to gush over it. Wait- when did he start caring about his image like that?

Their eyes nearly meet as Midoriya cranes his neck to peer through the crowd before finally locking on him. It’s so obvious that Deku has seen him, but Shouto wants to at least keep up the pretense of this funny little game they’re playing. He can practically see the other about to use his Quirk as he prances around with barely-contained excitement.

If waiting in line sucked, being at the front of it was intolerable. 

The lady’s nice, don’t get him wrong! She’s very polite and doing her best to be as efficient as possible, making conversation as she inputs information and waits for processing and━

HE HAS THINGS TO DO. Izuku’s mother would no doubt be appalled if the thought even crossed Izuku’s mind to ask her to shut up and move this process along, but Todoroki is no doubt in this room and Izuku has a very good idea of who he might be━ (It’s ridiculous, really, that he’s teasing him like this and pointedly covering up his distinctive appearance. Izuku isn’t mad, but he’s irritated, because he hasn’t seen or even really- significantly- HEARD from Todoroki in years. This is no time for games.)

Izuku doesn’t dare, though, to cut off this sweet girl or rudely refuse to make conversation with her. She passes back the necessary paperwork for him to take back to Iida, helping him paperclip it and tuck it back into the folder he’d brought with him, and they exchange polite goodbyes before Izuku rounds away from the window and faces the room again.

It takes a moment for his eyes to lock back onto the hooded man from before━ (from what he remembers, same proportions, same height, same silhouette even if it’s masked by black, not-necessarily-form-fitting clothing)━ and Izuku approaches the opposite line quickly.

“it is tedious. more often than not our class gets out just in time to get here early, too. it was on me not getting here right after we were free, i guess. doesn’t help that the line feels like it moves slower than ever.” and the enticing smell of food surrounding them did not help at all. lunch rush knew what he was doing, that was for sure. even if you were not very hungry, just the sight of any one’s full tray was enough to open up your appetite. which was shinsou’s case.

purple irises looked down on midoriya as he attempted to start eating while standing and moving all at once. shinsou remained silent, but still wondered what made the hero-in-training want to keep the conversation going. the leaf was gone, he assumed that would have been enough for their interaction. the thought of midoriya simply wanting to bond with him and get to know him did not cross his mind at all.

“well, they are your regular p.e. classes. you got your swimming, volleyball, judo. we are doing track racing this month. it is rare, but we are allowed to use quirks every other class, so that is cool.” the boy shrugged. it was not like mind-control would be very useful for a marathon. “yes, they are obligatory. as in any other school.”

“ Seriously, it feels like when you’re here on time everyone knows what they wants, but it slows to a crawl if you get here a second too late. ” Izuku gathers up rice and egg between his chopsticks, spreading both over a strip of meat before bringing the whole thing to his mouth. It’s honestly too much for one bite, but he uses his chopsticks to tuck the whole thing into his cheek anyway.

Chewing thoughtfully as Shinsou speaks, Izuku’s head tips to the side as his thoughts stream along the same line━ applying Shinsou’s quirk is tricky, especially when he doesn’t know the full extent and limitations of it. Naturally, the quirk can change and grow with use, but how would that work with Shinsou? Nonverbal takeover? Silent or more extensive commands? 

its his turn to inherit all of that, its his turn to be AFOs nemesis, (because all might may be done forever but AFO certainly isn’t.)
