The Reality of Graphic Images
When it comes to what’s appropriate or what’s not, when showcasing a graphic image or a brutal video on different media platforms such as online, on air or in print. One must really stop and think for a brief second and decide whether its newsworthy? Is it going to make change in society or is it going to cause a major backlash? All these things are important to think before you share with the world. Personally, I believe that it all depends on the reporting. Like, if it’s going to project an informative piece and allow the consumer to take the media or news story and at the same time, educate them on the reality of life events, then yes, it is important to show such work. We live in a time where many things are being fabricated or manipulated. The effect of that changes the truth in an image, video, or news story. Deception is being used and ultimately, the public is being misled. I also find it important to present the content to the audience despite its graphicness. I believe that by having a trigger warning before the content is exposed would be an ideal way to prepare people of the graphic things that would be appearing next. School shootings for example, is one heavy topic that sits on Americans. So, when my classmates showed the clip from a Snapchat footage captured by a student in 2017 at the Parkland, Florida shooting where Nicolas Cruz murdered 17 students. That was a graphic video showing the students in pure panic and what made it extremely difficult to watch was the terror in the kids voice as one could hear the intense gunshots from the shooter in the background. That piece was graphic in my eyes but it’s important to show videos like that because it’s a true problem in America and by showing the harsh realities of mass shootings it can start a conversation over the gun violence we deal with day and day. According to GunViolence.com, it breaks down evidence-based research on the topic with numbers of shootings, injuries, and casualties due to gun violence. To cover more on their presentation, they showed images from 9/11 of the falling man, the 1972 image of children running away from bombs that were being dropped in Vietnam, clips of concert goers at the Travis Scott concert and many more. In the end, its super important for journalist and news media outlets to show the reality of events, but with a trigger warning because it will educate people and provide them with a heads up.

ICONIC
ABOUT ME xx
Hey there, my name is Richie Quintero, I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I would describe myself as a social butterfly, very friendly, funny, outgoing, and a loyal Gemini friend. My current obsession is K-pop music such as BLACKPINK. I’ve never learned how to ride a bike. I am the youngest of 4 brothers. I am a senior currently working towards my BA in broadcast journalism. I have made the Dean’s List while attending CSUN and with the prospect of graduation in 2022. My dream job is to be a Tv news reporter (mainly focused on entertainment and PR disasters). In the next five years, I hope I am doing something within digital news writing, producing, reporting and or anchoring. I joke around with my inner circle about being the next Latino, Ryan Seacrest and dominating the TV world like he has in the past. I am passionate about everything involving storytelling, writing, reporting breaking news, and creating content for social media. Ever since I could remember I’ve been fascinated with pop culture and as an entertainment enthusiast, I know too much about the Oscar’s and the Olsen twins. On my spare time you could catch me chilling at the beach, dancing at concerts/music festivals (pre-pandemic days), hitting up theme parks whenever in need for a thrill and or traveling. When I do, it’s with my lovely group of friends. I also enjoy hanging with family members and yes that also, includes my fuzzy cat, Magnum. *meowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
