Normally she would have accepted the IOU, but given the huffy hedgehog’s
display of manners she wasn’t quite sure if she should trust that this friend
of his would come around and pay, or if he even exists. Such a dilemma
as her thoughts and possibilities combated with eachother; leaving her
perplexed and still rather cross with him.
But she wasn’t one to hold a grudge. A hefty sigh slowly escaped her,
drawing it out as long as possible, deliberate or not it was hard to tell.
A look of surprise replaced her confusion when his personality seemed
to reel and end up quite the opposite.
Taken aback, she pulled her hands to her front and peered at him, wide-
eyed and full of childish innocence, before it clicked what he was talking
about. The cake.
Her pride and joy, it only took around sixteen attempts, four of which ended
in scorched fingertips and five with ruined cake tins until her mother could
not bear the destruction any longer. It’s perfection was mostly done by her
hand, with the younger rabbit merely selecting the ingrediants and design.
“I don’t know..” she drawled. “You did say some rather
mean things. I don’t think cake should go to meanies.”
A little mischevious smile did rise, though. She could milk this for what
it was worth. The rabbit girl tapped her chin in thought.
“Hmmm. Okay. If you act as this stand’s mascot and
pay back all the food you’ve ate up to this point, you
can have the biggest piece I can cut.”
As if to sweeten the deal and tempt the offer further, she pulled a knife
from under the counter, the design clearly for children and comically
safe, only barely sharp enough to cut through the spongy baked cake.
It didn’t take long for her to cut and place a tempting large slice onto
a paper plate and place it innocently on the counter.
The deal was something Pui could manage. Whenever he had to do work for his boss's bakery, standing outside as a mascot was his responsibility. He knew how to make something sound tasty and seductive due to his passion for food. However, when it came to paying people back, he was always a stooge. His pay was a mere two dollars a shift. Pui was almost always at a financial deficiet, and it seemed that, as usual, he'd have to depend on Wuffle.
"Deal!" Pui impulsively affirmed, fist rose and spirits higher. With his rotund stuff rounding around the corner and now standing in front of it, he prepared himself. Fortunately for him, many people were swarming across the market street mindlessly. They all had their eyes set on their district, the marvelous food district. That meant Pui had fortune on his side, for it'd be much easier to persuade someone's empty belly.
“Come one, come all!" Called the hedgehog, now standing on a chair and almost breaking it with his break. Snatching the piece of cake that was cut by Cream's knife, he held it aloft with a grin. This was already enough of an enticement to grasp the attention of passerbys. "Have you ever wanted something creamy and delicious, sprinkled with cinnamon and laced with whipped cream? Candy that's dipped in glittery sugar 'n then served alongside freshly baked cookies? Then look no further, y'dang hungry fools! THIS rabbit is THE authority on sweets; allow me t'demonstrate."
Taking hold of a fork and stabbing it into the cake, Pui made an incision through it. As a result a piece of cinnamon cake broke apart, cream-cheese filling oozing out onto the plate. Its smell was heavenly and its smooth, melting appearance gave it charm. In no time hungry fanatics began to crowd Pui, and with his finger he led them to Cream's direction.
"And sweets ain't the only thing she's got!" Pui noted, holding up his plate and fork for dramatic flare. "Meat marinated with love! Steak sauce dripping with hope and taste! Stop lolligaggin' like friggin' losers 'n get somethin' that'll make the heart SCREAM!"
