Vox redesign, notes below

it just feels like it was for shock factor and nothing else. lilith owning alastor's soul would've been 10x more interesting. conflict with lucifer, with charlie, and it expands the mysteries of why tf lilith left and how on earth alastor got himself roped to her, and could've added stuff to why alastor disappeared for so long. alastor is such a mysterious character and finding out that lilith owns his soul would've been such an avenue to dig within his backstory and character, along with developing the other characters (charlie, lucifer) and the worldbuilding. moreover, alastor already has a rivalry with lucifer that's clearly been shown as a good chunk of his character throughout the show, and this would make it even more complicated and interesting.

And thats why in my opinion they should've given Velvette the role of spying on sinners, because that is literally one of the most powerful features of social media. Literally constantly collecting data. They should've also drawn a harder line between how Vel and Vox respectively influence the people because not only would it let us explore the difference between social media influencing and more mainstream manners of influence others (like the news and corporate politics - even just straight up politics as well) but also then VELVETTE WOULDN'T GET SO FUCKING SIDELINED. I also think they should've given Vox's hypnosis powers to her instead for extra oomph because the next biggest way social media affects people is by getting them addicted and literally fucking with their brain chemistry. The witch thing is awesome okay I really do think it is but thematically and narratively its so shallow. That is how I'd describe Velvette's entire character. She's almost a gimmick. Her fashion empire never even gets meaningfully considered in how it exploits the people of Hell (which likely would require them to tackle fast fashion and consumerism which honestly maybe I'm glad they didn't even attempt it!)

Also I knowww it is a bit less thematically satisfying to take away the surveillance thing from Vox because of his tech billionaire shtick but it can't be helped because in real life tech and social media are always owned by the same demographic of tech billionaires. Also the hypnosis thing yesss it would be a bit less thematically satisfying to take away from Vox but tbh I'd prefer if he didn't have the hypnosis thing because at best its redundant bc of his charisma and worst it actively undermines the impression of just how competent he is at being a manipulative bastard.

I also think them never really showing Velvette's power over the sinners would actively undermine their narrative if they do the "Vox gets too big for his boots, betrays the Vees, realizes he ain't shit without them" thing that a lot of people seem to be thinking they're trying to go for because they'd be trying to say Vox relies on Velvette for literally anything when really so far it hasn't shown that at all. ADDITIONALLY I don't even agree with people that this is what they're trying to do (because I think Vox honestly could get by even without the others) but it still annoys me because I do think that thats the kind of thing the show might attempt, and the fact that I can't even really buy into that narrative before the actual plot beat drops shows just how much of a shitty job they are at setting up the power dynamics between the Vees. Though I will give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they don't make Vox betray the Vees. STILL THE POWER DYNAMICS ARE SO NONSENSICAL SRSLY HOW IS VAL, OVERLORD OF PORN(????????), AS POWERFUL AS THE OTHER TWO? IF ANY OF THEM WOULD BE COOKED IF THEY GOT BOOTED FROM THE TRIO IT'D BE HIM

P.S Another reason I think Vel should have been the one with hypnosis powers is because then she could take the Angel spy subplot because she has NO FUCKING NARRATIVE REAL ESTATE AND ITS PISSING ME OFF. Vox doesn't NEED any more villainous real estate they gave him a whole bloody county with the stunt he pulled against heaven.
