We know that crystals correspond with and enhance magical items and spells, so finding a crystal that attunes to your tarot deck is a useful tool to help hone and clarify your readings. There’s several methods to do this, but it’s best to do whatever feels right for you and your deck!

Getting Started

To start, examine the feel of your deck and its themes. Is it a dark-themed deck? Mystical? Nature-inspired? What does its energy and mood feel like to you personally? From there, you can look into stones that match up with these themes or moods. Even starting off with stones that have the same common colors as the cards will work. Once you have some candidates in mind, you can get down to finding out which stone is best for your deck.

Finding The Right Stone

Once you have an idea of some stones that might work for your deck, it’s time to ask the cards what they think. You can do this in several ways, but here’s two methods that I like to use:

Three card opinion:

Shuffle your deck with the stone in question nearby, focusing on it and asking the cards how they feel about it and its energies. Draw three cards, whichever ones seem to speak to you or jump out the most, and compare them with each other. If the overall message between the cards seems to be optimistic or positive, then there’s a good chance that the cards approve of the stone. If it seems neutral or negative, choose another stone and shuffle again, repeating the process.

One card opinion:

Choose a stone and shuffle the cards, asking them how they feel about the stone and its energies. Lay the cards out in three stacks, and draw the top card from whichever stack speaks to you. If it seems to be a positive and agreeing card, then the cards probably get along with the stone well. If the card is generally negative or else neutral, choose another stone and shuffle again, drawing in the same way. 

If you feel like another stone will get a stronger response than your first pick, feel free to test it out and ask again! 

Using The Working Stone

Once your deck has let you know which stone it prefers, you can use it to enhance your readings. When shuffling and reading with your cards, keep the stone nearby to utilize its energies. When finished, store the stone nearby your cards, either on the deck box or inside the deck bag with the cards. Cleanse and charge the stone however often you cleanse and charge the cards.
