Let me just round this post out by providing more scientifically-based information;
See, this is actually a huge societal problem. Itâs actually a documented fact that most straight men (in American society, I presume) rely on their significant other as their sole and only emotional support. When they ask married (straight) women who they turn to in times of need, most of them have no issue listing off mothers, friends, family, etc, in addition to their husband. Women usually have a vast support network to draw from should they need it. Ask the husbands and⌠most pretty much admit the only person they go to is their wife.Â
Men have no support network. What happens when their wives are not supportive of their problems? Hell, what happens if the problem is theyâre wife? Whatâll happen if they lose their wife? They have no one to turn to. The concern here should be less about girls falling off the âpedestal,â and more about how men have no healthy ways of coping with stress and everyday emotional problems.
For example, there is evidence to suggest when men are depressed they are more likely to turn to binge drinking and drugs instead. Statistics usually say women have higher rates of depression, but some people think this is skewed by the fact that men usually try and cover up their issues by participating in self-destructive behavior, such as the previous mentioned drugs and alcohol, rather than getting actual treatment. In reality, men and women probably suffer from depression at similar rates.
