I must also add Dai Due, which was on the BA Hot 10 list and is apparently incredible, as well as Mickelthwaite Craft Meats, with which I became obsessed on my last trip in June. Have fun!Eating/DrinkingUchiBest sushi I’ve ever had, hands-down. They only take a few reservations a night, but waiting there is lovely, as they have a great wine list and really pretty garden.Taco DeliMy favorite tacos. All are good, but the Mojo Fish is the best fish taco I’ve ever had. Their breakfast tacos are particularly good.Elizabeth Street CafeThis place is AMAZING. Vietnamese-French with an in-house bakery. I go several times a visit. Breakfast here is awesome. I recommend the ginger pork sausage with rice and an almond croissant for dessert. Wine/beer only, but they make some great punches, especially the Shady Blonde and the Director.Franklin BBQYou have to go to Franklin’s for the brisket. Get there by 10:45 or so to wait in line. WORTH IT. For ribs, try Ironworks (right by the convention center, but totally legit and awesome).La CondesaReally great, upscale Mexican. The chicken salad is insane. I know it sounds odd to order chicken salad at a Mexican place, but trust me. It’s awesome.The TigressYou guys HAVE to go here. A little out of the way up north, but the best cocktails I’ve had in Austin, and a super cool vibe.Justine’sPretty good cocktails and delightful French food in a bungalow in East Austin. One of my favorites; try the crab salad. The steak frites are also amazing, and the mussels are wonderful.24DinerGreat for breakfast; I especially like their veggie burger with an egg on it.UchikoUchi’s little brother, with a more casual vibe. Some people like it better than Uchi; they’re wrong, but reservations are more plentiful.HoundstoothRight in between Uchiko and Taco Deli, and the best coffee I’ve had in Austin.Antonelli’sAmazing cheese shop in Hyde Park, an adorable, bungalow-y neighborhood north of downtown. Wonderful service and amazing cheese. (This is where Will’s Little Muenster onesie is from.)HopDoddy’sGreat burgers; they have a place on South Congress and one up north on Anderson.Easy TigerAwesome beer garden with housemade breads, pretzels and sausage. Right down on 6th Street.Clark’sFabulous seafood spot on West Sixth in Clarksville. Oysters, old-fashioned crab and shrimp Louie, etc. Used to be mobbed but has been open about a year now and is totally reasonable again.Midnight CowboyUsed to be a rub and tug joint, now a craft cocktail bar with reservations. My friend Joel did the interior (as well as those for Uchi, La Condesa, Uchiko, and Antonelli’s) - you can even book a massage room to hang out in.Hotel San JoseIf you don’t stay here, at least stop by for a drink next to the pool.Shopping/ActivitiesStagMenswear shop on South Congress, owned by my friend Ted. Really wonderful. Please go. You will love it.Alamo DrafthouseIf you want to see a movie while you’re here, this is the place to go. Cocktails and food brought right to your seats. Check out what’s happening while you’re there; I’ve been to special quote-alongs for Clue and Spaceballs, for example, and they do special brunch showings.Hamilton PoolA bit of a drive out of the city, but supposed to be an amazing short hike and natural swimming hole. Good thing to combine with a visit to Salt Lick.Barton SpringsAnother public pool, this one in Zilker Park downtown. Fed by natural cold springs, unchlorinated, and amazing. Beware, though - we waited 45 minutes to get in one afternoon.Town Lake (also called Lady Bird Lake)My favorite spot for a run - great 3- and 5-mile trails here. You can also rent kayaks and paddleboards to use on the river.Stubb’sA BBQ joint where the music is way better than the food. It’s a badge of honor for big bands to play here during SXSW.Milk & Honey SpaSeriously the best massages I’ve ever had.
