Sometimes I look back at that little girl and realize she was carrying questions she was far too young to answer.

She did not know where life would take her. She did not know what would be lost, what would be gained, or how many times she would have to begin again.

She only knew how to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

I am so not looking forward to this time when my pupper gets older. I haven't lost a dog since I was like 10 years old. So when my pupper goes, I know I'm gonna be devastated!!

Third generation funeral director here and I often hear families say something along the lines of “I don’t want to see him again because I don’t want to remember him like that.”

My brother passed away at 16 due to blunt force trauma to the head via a car accident. I saw him afterwards, after they fixed him up a bit and the best that they could. It didn’t look like him, but I share this because that is anything but my final visual memory of him.

That moment was a brief point in time, and a traumatic one at that. It’s almost impossible to erase those years spent together, just to be topped with the cherry of the final time that I saw him. I can barely remember it because I was young and there was so much going on.
