Glasswinged butterflies are a South American species known for their transparent wings. They look fragile but can carry up to 40 times their own strength. The pink butterfly in the first picture is an Amazon variety that has a “blush” shade to its clear wings.

This is a smaller Connellia bromeliad on the summit of Mount Roraima (compared to C. augustae). It is a clump-forming lithophyte, almost like a cushion plant on rocks, with bright rose-pink flowers that are pollinated by hummingbirds.

Pleurobranchaea californica, also known as California sea owls, spend their days cruising the seafloor in search of a meal. Their diet consists of anemones, squids, worms, and other sea slugs. They’re not picky eaters!⁠ ⁠ This species is typically found from the surface to 1,830 meters (6,000 feet) deep. This fabulous floof was observed at 404 meters (1,325 feet).
