❛   were  you  ever  gonna  tell  me  ?   ❜      ellie  stands  stoic  before  the  woman  she’d  come  to  see  as  one  of  her  BEST  FRIENDS.  evie  ,  she’d  been  there  for  the  other  in  times  not  even  JOEL  himself  had.  knew  things  about  her  she’d  otherwise  would’ve  kept  inside.  so  to  be  told  this  ––  it  brings  an  inner  wave  of  heartbreak  to  wash  over  her.      ❛   or  we’re  ya  just  gonna  disappear  without  a  word  ?   ❜

that just means they’re weak

his  words  make  her  freeze  for  half  a  minute;  hands  hovering  over  a  few  cans  of  food.  she  had  never  been  on  BOTH  SIDES  but  she  knew  what  the  other  side  was  capable  of.  had  witnessed  it.  had  gone  through  it.  and  so  much  of  her  wanted  to  turn  on  the  man  quickly  and  take  him  out  before  he  could  take  HER  out.  but  there’s  a  part  of  her  that  understands  why.  sometimes  you  don’t  have  a  CHOICE  in  this  life.  it  was  often  either  survive  doing  whatever  it  is  you  can  do  or  DIE.  she  had  dealt  with  those  choices  far  more  than  she  liked  to  admit.

       for  half  a  second,  evie  considers  tugging  the  gun  free  of  her  hands  and  tucking  it  away  somewhere  safe.  because  the  girl  before  her  was  too  YOUNG  to  be  fighting  the  infected  like  this.  but  when  it  came  down  to  it,  she  WAS  a  good  shot.  and  evie  herself  had  been  out  there  fighting  infected  and  PEOPLE  just  the  same.  she  couldn’t  punish  her  for  her  AGE.  they  had  made  it  this  far  together  and  had  survived  better  than  most.  she  wouldn’t  have  made  it  on  her  OWN  in  the  end.

      for  a  full  MINUTE,  evie  stayed  entirely  still;  listening  to  the  world  around  them.  there  were  no  screeches  or  CRIES.  no  human  voices  aside  from  the  girl  next  to  her.  nothing  but  a  soft  pattering  of  rain  beginning  to  fall  from  the  overcast  sky.  they  were  safe  for  now  but  she  knew,  deep  down,  that  safety  was  never  something  you  could  FULLY  rely  on.  they  needed  to  keep  moving.  staying  still  for  too  long  was  a  death  sentence.  even  if  she  knew  they  both  needed  to  REST.  they  would.  eventually. 

things u should know about evie:

she was just a child when the outbreak happened. her parents died in the initial wave of infection. she doesn’t remember much about them. but she remembers their deaths clearly. 

she was found by her aunt** hiding in a closet. the woman, thankfully, had been on her way to check on them.

they travelled to a QZ and stayed put well into her late teens. they helped smuggle things in the tunnels beneath the QZ. 

before her aunt grew disillusioned with everything and they snuck out for good. 

life on the road was hell though. hunters were everywhere and running into them would mean death. or worse. 

doesn’t like to talk about their time travelling around. and everything that’s happened. 

has suffered from ptsd since witnessing her parents die as a child. 

doesn’t sleep much. has nightmares. 

can talk a lot or very little. there’s no in between. 

will slowly add 2 this as i figure things out.
