despite your nagging for him to be more mindful of drinking pass his limit, mitsuya smiled unwaveringly at you. he’s just nowhere near the state to register anything into his mind. and as you tended to the bump on his forehead from running into your bookshelf in his drunken daze, you wondered how he arrived at your door on his own.

‘well, if you’re here to stay the night, might as well get you ready to sleep properly’, you sighed and pulled him to stand up. but instead of making his way to your bathroom, he wrapped his arms around your waist and rested his head on your shoulder. 'no, dont go yet’. his warm breath tickled your neck, making you hyperaware of how close he was.

with him practically leaning on you, you struggled to stand up as a funny feeling bloomed at the pit of your stomach. and before you could get distracted any further, you noticed his eyes closing. 'no no, dont fall asleep yet!’, in panic, you tightened his hold around you and dragged him to the bathroom.

its usually mitsuya who’d sigh at your antic, but now your role had reversed. as you caught your breath, you cant help but reflected on all the troubles you’ve caused him all this time. your hand found its way to his lilac locks and ruffled it apologetically. he looked so content from his seat on the toilet lid, humming in satisfaction to your touch.

when the funny feeling came back, you busied yourself with preparing his toothbrush. silently, you thanked him for the idea of leave his there for the nights he’d crash at your place and chill with you. glancing at him who’s still smiling at you sleepily, you considered for the first time if there’s more to his suggestion.

'here’, you passed mitsuya his brush, only for him to stare at the whitish paste for a few seconds before looking back at you, head tilting in confusion. 'brush your teeth’, you made a gesture of brushing your teeth in hoping that, if he cant understand what you said, he’ll at least get a hint from your action. unfortunately, nothing happened.

'you’re useless tonight, arent you?’, you laughed weakly. as cute as he’s behaving, you had no intention on spending the night in the bathroom to take care of a drunk man. cupping his cheek, you lifted his face up and did the brushing for him. his arms found their way back around your waist, finger tracing random shapes on your hips.

the whole time, you wondered if mitsuya had ever made your heart races so much before. you’re undeniably close considering your many years of friendship. so why did this night feel different? you got your answer as soon as he gargled and spat the content of his mouth in your sink.

pulling you to a tight hug, he brushed his lips along your earlobe. your breath hitch in your throat. 'one day when you’re mine, i’ll return the favour and take care of you’. before you could respond, he let out a soft snore. thanks to your fast reaction, you narrowly escaped spending the night of the cold floor with him crushing you with his weight.

the next morning, mitsuya woke up with a massive headache and a strong urge to vomit. once again, he’s in your bathroom as he emptied out his gut, very much sober this time. what he’s unaware of, though, were the flustered face of his crush and the forehead kiss he’d always dreamt of receiving.

author’s note — yes, i’m totally late for the party and its not even fashionable in any way. but i still want to celebrate it because hanemiya kazutora deserves the world. (@walhalla i’m gonna need a spare brain, mine is still fried)

there are times when you’d notice your boyfriend spacing out. considering how overwhelming his life has been, kazutora cant help but feel lost sometimes, in life and thought. so when he leaves your shared bed in the middle of the night for a long ride, you dont question his action at all. you’d wait for his return, fully aware of his search for a sense of peace you’re unable to provide.

one of the times when his aimless wanders would go further than any others is the night before his birthday. you’ve been together for years, but on every morning of 16th july, you’d find his side of the bed cold, as if he’d never been there at all. he’d then come home with a fake smile plastered on his face, and your heart broke into pieces.

when the next 15th july rolled around, you prepared yourself yet again. except it didnt happen like you’ve expected. that night, kazutora held your hand in his slightly trembling one, eyes dancing with a mixture of emotion, ‘come with me?’. you didnt even bother to change out of your night dress.

and as the memory of the wind howling alongside blinding headlights, roads and sceneries gradually became unfamiliar and fast beating of your boyfriend’s heart underneath your embrace burned to your mind, you felt like you’ve entered a fragment of his world that he had kept hidden away.

'we’re here’, he said as you scanned the unknown land. the 'here’ in front of you presented itself in the form of a vast grassy field on a cliff overlooking the sea. the stars above accompanied your long, silent night of waiting. and if he didnt caress your fingers with his callous ones, you’d thought that he had forgotten that you’re there at all. before long, the world faded away as you drown in the sound of his heartbeat next to your ear.

morning greeted you with feathery kisses by the salty breeze and warmth of your boyfriend’s jacket that had shielded you from the chill of the previous night. 'good morning’, you sat up, expecting nothing in return. only to feel his lips connected to yours in a long, delicate kiss, it left you breathless.

'another year for me to live’, kazutora sighed softly, a familiar emptiness in his eyes. a silent 'another year i dont deserve’ left unuttered. caressing your fingers for a few moments, he continued, 'i’m sorry i made you wait for so long. i-’. you captured his lips in a desperate kiss, wanting him to stop thinking, needed him to.

'i’ll wait for you forever. as long as you need, i’ll be there for you’. your eyes met his in a pool of tears. 'so dont ever apologize!’, your voice broke, and his own tears that he had been holding back spilled down his cheeks in a steady, unstoppable flow.

'is it really okay for me to keep living?’. instantly, he’s in a tight embrace you’ve pulled him into, whispering, 'more than okay’. you kept holding him close as he wailed his heart out until he’s reduced to a delicate, sniffling mess.

on your laps, his eyes were puffy from crying for too long, dried tears on his red cheeks. but there’s a soft smile on his lips as he gazed up at you. 'you can say it now’.

his smile widened to the sound of your sweet laughter that makes his heart flutter every time. leaning down to place a kiss on the tip of his nose, you felt your own heart skipping a beat. 'happy birthday, my love. thank you for being in my life for another year’.

kazutora caressed your chin with his thumb, intertwining your fingers with his in another hand. 'no. thank you for being in my life at all’. connecting your lips with his once again, he’s finally found his peace.

'why dont you try someone your level?', rindou finally spotted you in the massive banquet hall he had rounded not less than thrice. in front of you, a tall man with a nasty scar on his face was laughing as if you just told him a joke. though his fun vanished the instance rindou appeared next to you, 'she meant fuck off, if you're too much of an airhead to understand that'. luckily, he's smart enough to scram to the sight of the bonten executive.

you, on the hand, didnt even bother to look at him, 'why are you here?'. with the tone of your question, its clear that you still havent forgiven him for the argument you had earlier in the morning. 'you didnt answer my calls and texts, what do you expect me to do? sulk like an idiot?'. 'i dont know, arent you?', you shrugged and sipped on your wine. that was when rindou noticed how you're acting strange. usually you'd be more than verbal when you're mad. now you're just stiff and awkward, as if hiding something.

'and what the hell with that half-ass defence? you could have done better with that guy'. you pouted, reluctantly accepting that he'on you, 'i certainly could, only if i could move without worrying about falling'. rindou's eyes quickly trailed down your body to your stiletto and understood the problem. but instead of being a sweet boyfriend and win you back as an apology, he thought that he'll be a little shit first.

grabbing your forearms, he shook you as you screamed for him to stop, 'i'm going to kill you, rindou!'. he only cracked up more as you clutched to him with pure fright on your face, and only stopped because his stomach was hurting from laughing too much. 'what a shame for you to be reduced to a defenceless baby just because of a pair of shoe wear', he wiped the tears at the corner of his eyes. even then he's still chuckling a bit, and you found yourself unable to keep being mad at him.

'i hate you', you smiled slightly and drained your wine. 'no, you dont', rindou pulled you to lean against his broad chest and kissed the crown of your head. in the silent moment between the two of you, he had checked out your look - black tulle dress flowed down and hugged your body perfectly, you hair done and adorned with hair accessories that highlighted your overall appearance. he hummed pleasantly. he can get use to this.

'want to make up? i'll get you out of this shitty party. couldnt understand why koko wanted to have this as if we dont wear three piece suit daily enough', rindou twirled a strand of your hair with his finger. 'to be fair, you did. he didnt. but sure, i guess? woah-', rindou lifted you effortlessly and carried you out of the hall bridal style, 'your wish is my command'. you wrapped your arms around his neck, nuzzling close, 'thats not what you said this morning'.

rindou pinched you thigh playfully to that, making you yelp, 'dont push your luck, woman'. you ignored his warning and undid the strap of your shoes, very much tempted to drop them in the pool you passed by, 'this heels are a pain though'. rindou kept on walking, eyes trained to the path with lesser attandees for quick escape, 'guess you can open your birthday present early'.

the smug smile on his lips was all you the evidence you need to know what rindou did remember the kicks you'd eyed in your previous date. that night, as the two of you munched on your drive-through dinner in the his car, your legs on his laps, proudly wearing your birthday present. 'kinda not surprised that these're in purple, like someone's eyes', you lifted and wiggled your left leg playfully in front of him. 'gotta remind you who you belong to'.
