romano, for one, is very much a coward and crybaby and has this whole machismo complex — all of which manifest into issues coming to terms with being bisexual, his attraction towards men especially, commitment, and actually. yknow. being able to admit his feelings to spain. getting over that hurdle of "what if i ruin our friendship???" <- spain has also been stressing over this for centuries. hah

nyo romano, similar to what himaruya has said about nyo vene, is more confident in herself. chiara's my favorite lesbian, and i like to think she's just as flirty with girls as romano. so i think she's more upfront about her attraction to isa, and also significantly more secure when isa reciprocates those feelings.

spain, too, has a lot of issues. the biggest difference between antonio and isabella, to me, is that antò was sent off on ships and expeditions while isa was forced to stay at home and play housewife to the king. (sorry to dash everyone's lesbian fantasies of hot hot nyo pirate spain... but lbr. those sexist pigs weren't letting WOMEN fight their wars) so isa spent way more time building genuine bonds with the people in her country, with chiara, rather than adding to her sin count and staining her hands with the blood of innocents. she's much more sane (to a degree) than antonio, if only for the lack of scurvy and committing genocide. so while, in modern days, antonio tries to bottle up his desires and lunacy behind a smile, never showing how mad he is nor raising his voice, isabella gets to fully feel her emotions and express her discontent.
