i really love oversized clothing that distorts your silhouette. I love being formless
Just got done reading an interesting article about how language affects the way we think and perceive the world. There were some interesting examples. Like how in Spanish, the word bridge is masculine, while in German, it is feminine. So native speakers of these languages describe the same thing differently. Spanish speakers will comment on how strong or sturdy a bridge is, while German speakers will comment on how elegant or beautiful it is. Another example that blew my mind was the Guugu Yimithirr language. So, most languages, including English, use an egocentric type of directional language (turn right, left, behind, in front.) these directions are relative to you as a person. Well, the Guugu Yimithirr language uses fixed geographical directions (North, East, South, and West) no matter the context. If you were to put an English speaker and a Guugu Yimithirr speaker in the same hotel, and put them in rooms opposite sides of the hallway from each other, the English speaker will see the exact same room (that person will see the desk to the right of blah and the closet in front of blah) but the Guugu Yimithirr speaker will see a COMPLETELY different room because the bed will be facing south instead of north, and all of that jazz. And the article went on to state how speakers of this language might even have a lower sense of egotism, because directions do not revolve around them, they’re just another part of the picture. Really fascinating. It made me think really long about language imperialism and how rapidly we’re moving towards a world that deals almost exclusively in English. It makes me sad to know that we’re losing completely different ways of thinking. Completely different perspectives, just gone. I guess that’s why I always get upset when people say that language imperialism isn’t so bad, and that English as a language is connecting people together. The world is a great big place, with completely different perspectives, and I think the fastest way to kill a culture is to take away the language, because not only are you taking away a method of communication, but a way of thinking.

Please donate to this shelter! I know someone who works there and they said they could really use money to pay for the cats’ medical bills, since they take in cats that are disabled and would probably not survive at a regular shelter, so please help some cats in need!!

I saw a similar thing in a screenshot on Reddit the other day.
This is hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The fact that this was posted by Taika himself on his Instagram account makes this 189x funnier
king claudius is actually the funniest character in hamlet
the guy spends most of the play unable to understand why he feels so guilty despite having literally just murdered his brother, married his wife a couple of months after he was laid to rest and spent all his free time thotting it up in court and then when he finally realises, only thanks to watching a play where he's the villain mind you, that what he did was, in fact, Bad, instead of repenting for his sins or promising to lead the kingdom better to make up for it or something he just snaps and is like "i cannot fucking WAIT to kill my nephew"
I hate man caves. I absolutely hate them.
It’s just the sentiment behind them that I find so reprehensible. It’s this idea that men need a retreat away from the responsibilities of family life whereas women do not. I very seldom see people who have man caves also have a space for the woman and if they do it’s always significantly smaller, less equipped, and seldom used.
And the thing is men will often argue this point by saying “well she has the rest of the house” because they think that forcing their wives/girlfriends to do all of the administrative work around the house constitutes personal space. So they force their partners to become household managers wherein a daily flow is created that they are not involved enough to feel a part of, this creates a sense of disconnect from family life, and makes men feel as if they’re being bossed around in their wife’s home , which creates a need to “get away.” Which basically results in him hiding while his wife runs the household. Men think this is fair because they think that it’s natural for women to be household managers rather than realize she’s just picking up his slack.
the knowing eye contact women make when men are talking is the purest human connection possible
What the fuck does that even mean?
30 thousand women seem to get it

the worst is when you know a couple women separate from the conversation are listening and judging but you can’t interrupt your flow to address it.

Pigeon Comic 44 - Under Pressure
Stay coo’, pigeon army.
This? Is? Incredible????????
i’ve heard a lot of people talk about the EXCELLENT potential of a high intelligence/low wisdom dnd character (i.e. an brilliant academic who keeps setting their dumb ass on fire because they always store their wand in their back pocket)
but i’ve not seen any posts about the equal potential of a high wis/low int character (i.e. someone incredibly perceptive who gives deep and meaningful reassurance to their friends and then 5 minutes later asks what a can opener is)
just me n the girls enjoying the nice weather
this is so fucking unsettling i love it
By Philip Jackson. I did not find all of them in his gallery, but 1. Moonstruck, 3. The Sentinels, 4. The Grandees, 7. His Eminence, 8. The Magistrate, 9. Saraband
This adorable little robot is designed to make sure its photosynthesising passenger is well taken care of. It moves towards brighter light if it needs, or hides in the shade to keep cool. When in the light, it rotates to make sure the plant gets plenty of light. It even likes to play with humans.
Oh, and apparently, it gets antsy when it’s thirsty.
The robot is actually an art project called “Sharing Human Technology with Plants” by a roboticist named Sun Tianqi. It’s made from a modified version of a Vincross HEXA robot, and in his own words, it’s purpose is “to explore the relationship between living beings and robots.”
I don’t care if it’s silly. I want one.
Could you imagine a whole greenhouse full of these? I always thought of spaceship greenhouses as big stationary things, but imagine a rotating “sun” and a bundle of little, shuffling planters that come find crew member when their plants are dehydrated.
