âThis place again?...â
The squidâs muttering could be heard faintly under her breath as she gazed upwards at all the buildings surrounding her; buildings that were much, much taller than she was. She had been stunned into immobility for a few moments upon re-arrival in the city of Spirale, mostly as the result of a whole bunch of memories flooding back into her mind all at the same time; it was overwhelming, to say the least, especially since a lot of these memories werenât exactly positive.
Cod damn it.
Sticking her hands in her pockets, she found herself trying to make heads or tails of the city once more. It seemed as if the population had changed drastically since the last time she was here; there didnât seem to be any familiar faces around. She couldnât decide if that was for better or for worse, honestly.
Still, she knew sheâd need at least some help to get used to everything that had changed around here. With that in mind, she approached the first person she saw, whistling out a short greeting.
A word of warning first: this is not an event and does not count as event participation towards ranking up. These are merely a bunch of fun activities that persist throughout the summer. While we will run an event in August, you will still be able to use SpiraleFES activities for non-event threads during that time!
The city is decorated festively from top to bottom, each and every ward sporting streamers, festive music, and providing a number of fun events. These can be used for threads throughout July and August, and so we encourage you to make use of them for some interesting interaction ideas! The list of events is as follows:
At first, upon having her dualies back, Pearl had been thrilled. She had gone on an ink-spraying frenzy, doing her best to paint the town in her vibrant pink hues.
That was, at least, until she ran into several monsters. Within seconds of trying to fire at the creatures, the squid girl had figured out that said course of action had been a terrible idea. The things were simply shaking off the ink like it was nothing, and immediately afterwards, they started trying to hunt the inkling down.
âSHIT!âÂ
Her thick-soled shoes barely touched the pavement as she made a mad dash in the other direction, looking for... what? A safe point? She had no idea where those were right now, despite the pale red light they emitted. All three of her hearts were beating at a rapid race, sweat beading down her face as she tried to keep the pace of the speed she was going at up.
And then she ran into someone.Â
The force knocked her to the ground, and would undoubtedly leave a bruise later, but now wasnât the time to get angry. They both had to escape this.
âRUN! I DONâT CARE IF YOUâRE OKAY OR NOT, BECAUSE IF YOU DONâT START RUNNING WE WONâT BE!â

The vibrancy and eccentricity of the girlâs style unarguably reveals confidence. Someone who just might be familiar enough with this perplexing place to assist her to some extent in adapting herself. â You wouldnât happen to know anything about the LAWS here, would you? Specifically about superheroes and crime fighting? â
Laws? About superheroes? Pearl did try her best to be a good role model and follow the laws of anywhere she went for her fans, but she hadnât yet considered that the rules here might be different than the rules back in Inkopolis.
Still though- superheroes? The puzzled look on her face likely gave her answer away before she even spoke.
âUh, no, I donât. Why? If you fight crime, Iâd love to have ya around, but I donât know any of the laws on it.âÂ
Admittedly, the reason the inkling wanted her around so badly was somewhat selfish. She didnât want even a chance of anyone stealing the crown adorning her head.
The good news is, Pearl has her dualies back! The bad news is, they still only fire ink. Which, unless these monsters happen to be made of a similar biology to inklings and octolings, is pretty much entirely useless.Â
But hey, at least she can climb walls now, since she can paint places. Assuming she remembers to get to a safe spot before her five minutes as a squid are up anyways. Falling into a pit of monsters sounds like a bad way to spend an afternoon.
Even after being here only for a handful of hours, Pearl had heard the rumors around the city. She didnât quite understand what exactly was going on, unfortunately, but she knew it had something to do with... teams? And beacons? Yeah, that sounded about right. Other than that, however, she didnât know any of the details.
Well, she did know that the beacons being placed were rather annoyingly bright in contrast to the darkness caused by the lack of electricity in every corner of the city. Squinting at some of the beams of light shooting into the sky, she could practically feel her star shaped pupils burning from brilliant it was.
Maybe she could go figure out what was going on for herself.
While the seemingly bottomless hole in the center wasnât a place Pearl thought she was going to head back to so soon, she figured it was the best place to start her investigation. So, it was in that direction that the inkling wandered, pink hoodie pulled up to hide her tentacles. It wasnât like hiding her tentacles was going to give her much less attention though, given that her golden and jewel-encrusted crown was still atop her head. But whatever. Maybe sheâd find a teammate that way. After all, she had also heard something about dying if the task was not completed...
Making her way back to where the cab had taken her from upon first waking up, Pearl nearly did a double take when her gaze fell upon what appeared to be a girl just floating above the center of the pit. Who the shell was this? Did they have something to do with... whatever was going on with the beacons and teams and stuff?
Quickly (but for once in her life not too quickly, as the inkling did not feel she would be very fond of slipping and falling into the hole below) Pearl darted forward, opening her mouth to yell up at the figure. ââEY! Whatâs going on! Whatâs with the beacons-â
The moment the word âbeaconâ had left her mouth, said beacon was hurtled at Pearl with enough force to knock the inkling girl back off her feet, shielding herself with her arms from the dust caused by the impact. When the dust had cleared, her golden hued eyes moved upwards to look at the figure, a scowl crossing over her features as she noticed that they... well, didnât seem to have anything else they wanted to do or say.Â
Well, whatever. If placing the beacons meant she wouldnât die, sheâd place a cod-damn beacon. Pulling the thing up into her arms, the squid left the area she had received it to find somewhere, anywhere, to place the thing. The device seemed to have a place in mind to go, at the very least, so Pearl didnât have to make any random and possibly incorrect decisions.Â
At least that was a plus.
Luckily, it didnât take her as long as she thought it would to reach where the beacon wanted her to go. She wasnât nearly as good with technology as Marina was, so she had been terrified that it would take her hours just to figure out where she was supposed to go.Â
It seemed to be an empty music studio, with the roof falling in on itself. Even the glass door was covered in dust and had several cracks in it, a sight that made the music-loving squid very sad to see. Still, this was where she was supposed to go, right?Â

While the sky may have cleared up, the lack of power still gave a very lonely, eerie feeling to the city. It was a feeling that Pearl absolutely despised, given that they were already dreading going through the process of having to meet so many new weirdos all over again. And where was Marina? It had been several hours; the inkling was sure she would of seen her by now. If she was even here...
Maybe she should just... look for the place with the most fancy technology that she could find. A place like that was bound to attract the octoling DJ if she was around here somewhere. With that thought in mind, determination to find her co-star had her moving with rapid speed through the streets, only barely pausing to try and read broken-down signs on just as busted buildings as her short little legs rushed over the ground.
Unfortunately, even after what felt like forever, Pearl couldnât find a good spot to wait for her. Too many things were in complete ruins. Even if there was a building that was formerly filled with the type of technology Marina loved, it was just that; formerly. Now, everything was just a crumpled mess.
Slumping down onto her bottom on a rubble-filled street corner, Pearl leaned back against the wall. closing her eyes and trying to fight back against the overwhelming hopelessness rising in her chest. While she wasnât typically one to cry too easily or become sorrowful in general, she couldnât stand the idea that she might be here alone.Â
Alone... what a horrible thought. And with that thought, a single tear did indeed slip down her cheek.
