I just realized that the reason ghosts say Boo! is because it’s a latin verb

they’re literally saying ‘I alarm/I am alarming/I do alarm!!

“ you got a little something on your lip… here, let me just… “

As the big day drew nearer, the Town Square was abuzz with activity. Citizens ran around like headless horsemen, ensuring there were enough spooky decorations, twinkling lights and pumpkins galore. Violet had grown used to the last minute rush, breezing among the townsfolk like a buoy in the stormy seas. She had found it was important that at least one person kept their head when everyone else was panicking.

“I take it you’re keeping busy as well?” she asked the young woman before her, a playful smile pressing against her lips. 

With Halloween only a few weeks away, Olivia was trying her best to keep her cool. Usually she was very good at being the calm one; always checking in on her Papa and the townspeople to make sure no one was losing their minds. Figuratively and literally. Having brains strewn about the town square added a little jazz to the decorations, but it wasn’t exactly a part of the plans either.

To make sure no one’s heads exploded, Olivia took on as many tasks as she could. That day, her duties included detangling lights; something she was very good at. Deep in thought, Olivia was seated on the ground with a large string of lights in her lap. Her fingers moved delicately but quickly as she began to straighten out the lights. However, her thoughts were interrupted by a kind voice, and she looked up to be greeted with a smile.

“Oh you bet,” she said, smiling back. “How’s it going out there? You look especially calm today so I assume there haven’t been any problems yet.”

Violet was very fond of the citizens of Halloween Town. When she had first arrived, they were surprisingly friendly and accommodating and she had felt indebted to them ever since; and once Oogie came into the role of leading Halloween Town in collaboration with Jack, she found she was in contact with them even more than normal, helping with the odd sewing task and providing insight into smaller details that may have been overlooked.

While the suggestion wasn’t exactly a prank, she knew that it would sound like one to them if she made it seem like it was. It was a win win situation, there was no such thing as the “best” pumpkins, and the kids got to feel like they really got Jack. She would make sure their pumpkins got displayed and that Jack would play along.

“Does that sound like a plan? And of course, you know my lips are sealed.” She said, making the zipper motion across her lips.

The imps looked at her in awe. She surely was a mischief genius? Now, that was a prank worth of pranks. They grinned to each other and Riff Raff rubbed his hands together. He then said to Olivia rather happily. 

“Well then let’s get to work!”

Ginx looked at her brother and smiled as she noticed he didn’t end that one with a rhyme this time. She won’t call him out on it though. Not this time. She then went to turn to Trouble and frowned when she saw the little twerp wasn’t behind her. 

“Trouble?” She called, her eyes darting around the pumpkin patch, hoping to catch a glimpse of his cute little head, but to no avail.

“Um.. alright. Maybe he just got distracted... I want you guys to stay VERY close to me, and we will go look for him, okay? I don’t need you two disappearing on me too. Uh... here,” she said, firmly, kneeling for a moment to pick up a hand spade and hand rake and handing it to the two children. She could trust them enough to hold them.
