In honor of the Sirens vs. Charge game tomorrow, here's a bit of a timeline of the relationship between Emily Clark (#26, Ottawa Charge alternate captain) and Jaime Bourbonnais (#14, New York Sirens alternate captain). The large majority of this information comes from their interview on Zoe Boyd's podcast, so if you're interested, go watch it here!

Both of these women were a part of Canada's hockey team in the Beijing 2022 Olympics (although Jaime was an alternate, and didn't play any games). They met at a development camp for Team Canada, but didn't really get to know each other until practice.

During this time period, there were heavy COVID regulations, so neither of them were doing much outside of hockey. Jaime used to sit in her car after practice and Emily would stand outside and have conversations with her through the window for hours.

At this point, Jaime was dating a boy (but was going through a breakup) and hadn't ever considered that she may like women. However, multiple members of their team, including Brianne Jenner and Marie-Philip Poulin would mention to both her and Clark that there was something going on between the two of them.

It was a comment from Laura Stacey that finally led to Emily asking Jaime to go for a drive with her, but nothing happened at all between them. Then, Jaime went on a date with a boy. She realized that she had feelings for Emily when she found herself actively trying to hide the fact that she had been on a date from her.

After this, Emily asked her to go on yet another drive, where Jaime made the first move to take this beyond a friendship. This brings me to what might be my favorite moment of Zoe Boyd's podcast:

Although they were dating at this point, they still kept their relationship mostly hidden from the other girls, not wanting to be a distraction from the Olympics. This led to some funny roommate interactions, particularly with Emma Maltais, who was living with Jaime at the time and was determined to prove they were together.

After the Olympics, they pretty quickly told roommates and teammates about their relationship. It wasn't until their trip to Italy and this Instagram post in June of 2024 that they hard launched online, though.

Now, they play for different teams in the PWHL, which creates a really fun dynamic that they love playing into.

Teammates on each of their respective teams love to tease them about when they'll finally get married.

Position: Goalie, #38

Nickname: Masch/Monster Masch

Relationship status: Married to Geneviève Lacasse

Masch has been in a relationship with her wife, Geneviève, since 2015 when the two both played as goalies for Team Canada. Geneviève has since retired from professional play, now working as a sponsorship & sales manager for the PWHL.

They got married in 2024, and the wedding was officiated by Montreal Victoire player and member of the infamous "Wife Line", Laura Stacey.

After getting married, they began a parenthood journey and Geneviève decided to carry their baby. He was born in 2024, and was named Beckham Brae Maschmeyer Lacasse. Masch posts adorable videos with the three of them all the time on Instagram!

Team: Seattle Torrent (and Team USA 2026)

Position: Defense, #3

Nickname: Barnsey

Relationship status: Dating Hope Walinski

Cayla Barnes is another queer Torrent athlete. She is in a relationship with Hope, who is a also a hockey player! Hope is a goalie, and captain of the Providence College Women’s Hockey team. The two have been dating for a little over three years.

I consider it vital information that Cayla has a dog named Hulk, a massive black lab.

Nickname: Goosey

Relationship status: Dating Gabi Jones

Julia Gosling is often left off of lists of queer players, but she has been public about her relationship with girlfriend Gabi. She confirms this in a video with the Sceptres, where she says who she is planning to call after the draft.

They post together frequently on Julia's Instagram and TikTok!

I started with Julia because there's not much out there about her, so it's easier to feel like I'm presenting all of the information. That said, I plan to make more of these for newbies to the league who want to learn more about some of the queer players.

I have done far too much research and deep diving on this topic for it to go to waste. Here is a somewhat complete guide to their relationship.

KK and Daryl both attended University of Wisconsin and played on the women's hockey team there. They posted a lot together, but neither was publicly out, and they didn't ever explicitly confirm they were a couple. KK would post TikToks of them, then delete them almost the next day. Many of these videos were after Daryl graduated and went on to play in the PWHL, so they weren't playing for the same team anymore and were still posting together.

This is the one that truly started speculation, the next is one that pretty much confirmed their relationship for me.

Which were, again, deleted shortly after.

At the Olympics, two days before the gold medal game between Canada and the US (Daryl playing for Canada, KK for the US) KK went on TikTok live with Laila Edwards, her roommate and close friend. On this live, KK focused on questions pertaining to Daryl, but made it clear she wasn't allowed to talk about her relationship status. Instead, she had Laila answer those questions for her, saying KK was single. It could be assumed that this was a way for KK to clear up dating rumors between her and Daryl, but she also reacted to comments referring to Daryl being out of the picture. Here is the full live.

3:43 KK mentions "breakup era"

5:05 KK asks Laila to respond to a comment asking about a Daryl breakup confirmation. Laila says KK is "on the market"

6:03 A comment makes a joke about the Daryl breakup, KK gasps when she sees it and tells Laila, laughing at it

8:50 KK: "Laila is off the market, I'm..." Laila: "Yeah, what are you KK?" KK: "I'm... I'm not what Laila is, is what I'll say." (In other words, confirms she is single and has been told she can't outright say she is single)

13:56 KK confirms she is queer for the first time officially

23:40 KK reads out the question "are you single" and Laila answers that she is.
