Wardrobe Snacks by Kelsey McClellan

Wardrobe Snacks is the quirky ongoing project of photographer Kelsey McClellan and stylist Michelle Maguire depicting the matchy-matchy situations in fashion and food mixup.

“Was there any specific moment when you decided to date him?” “(Woman) Right before we started to go out, he was away in the Philippines for about a week to attend a conference.” “(Man) We knew each other since our freshman years in college, so we’ve been friends for seven years. We had many mutual acquaintances too. In fact, for a long time, we had asked ourselves if we’d want to start start a relationship. But then, I think her mind moved because someone who had been always around her went away for a week and couldn’t be reached. “(Woman) That’s when this crossed my mind: ‘This person is within my reach right now, but he might leave me forever. Would I be able to stand it if he starts to date another woman?’ So, I asked him to go out the day he came back to Korea.” “(Man) Yes, that’s how it was. We were like oxygen to each other.” “(Woman) I also imagined the same thing when I asked him out.”

RUSSIA. Chechnya. Grozny. May 1995. An elderly Chechen woman amid the ruins of the republic’s capital. The battle for Grozny caused enormous destruction and casualties amongst the civilian population and saw the heaviest bombing campaign in Europe since the end of World War II.

South African photographer Paul Shiakallis produced a series of photos, “Leathered Skins, Unchained Hearts,” of the “queens” of Botswana’s heavy metal “Marok” scene, mostly in their homes.

The portraits were shot in the Gaborone, the capital city, and display the tension between traditional Botswanan patriarchy and transgressive self-expression. The Maroks cross over with Botswana’s biker scene, which, in turn, borrows elements from the country’s farmers, like leather vests.
