The moment you walked into Cedar’s room with the tiny cupcake balanced carefully in your hands, he looked up from where he was sitting cross-legged on the floor and blinked in surprise.
“Puppyie?” he asked, voice instantly brightening in that soft, ridiculously adorable way that always made your brain short-circuit.
You had spent the entire morning trying to come up with the perfect birthday surprise, and honestly? The cupcake was only part of the plan. The real goal was making him laugh until he forgot how to be anything other than happy.
You held the cupcake up proudly. “Birthday delivery for the birthday boyyyy~!”
Cedar’s smile spread immediately, the kind that crinkled the corners of his eyes and made him look unfairly cute. “You got me a cupcake?”
“Mhm!” You bounced over and sat beside him. “An’ I made sure it had extra frosting ‘cause you deserve extra frosting today.”
He laughed softly, taking the cupcake from you with exaggerated care. “Thank you, sweet girl.”
Your tail practically wagged off your body.
Every single time he called you that.
He took a bite, humming happily, and you watched him with your chin resting in your hands. “Is it good?”
“Mhm. Very good.” He nudged your shoulder with his. “You spoil me, sweet girl.”
You gasped dramatically. “It’s your birthday! I’m supposed to spoil you!”
Cedar chuckled, setting the cupcake aside before reaching over to ruffle your hair. “You’re awfully energetic today.”
You leaned into the head pats automatically, then froze.
He was frikin petting you again.
Your ears twitched suspiciously. “Hey… don’t think I didn’t notice that.”
“Notice what?” he asked innocently.
Cedar tilted his head, smiling with way too much amusement. “But you’re a puppy.”
You opened your mouth to protest, but he had already started scratching lightly behind your ear.
“Ceeedaaaar,” you whined, trying not to melt into the affection.
“Aww, look at those little puppy noises,” he teased softly.
You huffed and flopped against him. “You’re impossible.”
“And yet you came here specifically to celebrate me.”
He laughed again—those warm, breathy giggles that always gave you immediate cuteness aggression. Your eyes narrowed.
You slowly sat up, staring at him with growing mischief.
Cedar noticed immediately. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Because,” you said carefully, “it’s your birthday.”
“And birthdays are supposed to include lots of happiness.”
His eyes narrowed in return. “Kiddo.”
“And your giggles are very, very happy.”
You wiggled your fingers.
Cedar gasped. “Nohohoho, don’t even think about it—!”
You lunged forward and scribbled your fingers into his sides and neck, at once.
“WAHAHAIT—! NAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHH—!”
The sound that came out of him was so adorable you nearly squealed.
“THERE THEY AREEE!” you cheered. “Birthday giggles acquired!”
Cedar immediately curled up, laughing helplessly as you continued the playful scribbles. “NOHOHO, YOU—! THIHIHIS ISN’T A PRESENT—!”
“It totally is!” you argued, grinning ear to ear. “I’m giving you a customized laughter experience!”
“AHAHAHAHA CUSTOM—! WAHAHAHAHHAH?!—!”
His laughter came in bright, bubbly bursts, and every time he tried to talk, another giggle interrupted him. You were losing your mind over how cute he sounded.
“Awww, listen to those little birthday squeaks~!” you cooed.
Cedar buried his face in his hands.
“DOHOHON’T CALL THEM THAHAHAT!”
“Oh? What should I call them then?” Your fingers skittered up to his ribs, making him jerk with a loud laugh. “Happy birthday fireworks?”
You giggled right along with him, practically vibrating with excitement. “Cedar, your laugh is so cute I’m gonna explode.”
“That sounds like a yohohou problem— AHAHAHA!”
The instant he accidentally made a joke through his laughter, you gasped.
“He’s still making puns while being tickled! Incredible!”
Cedar groaned dramatically between giggles. “IHIHI REGRET EVERYTHING—!”
You switched to gentle squeezes at his inner thighs, (carefully) and he squealed, immediately trying to twist away.
“NAHAHAHA! YOUHUHUHUUU CHILD, PLEHEHEASE—!”
“Pleeeease what?” you teased. “Pleeeease keep making the cutest birthday giggles ever?”
“THAT’S NOHOT WHAT I SAHAHAID!”
You couldn’t stop laughing. “You’re so adorable, Cedar, this is actually a medical emergency.”
“AHAHAHAHA YOU’RE THE EMERGENCY—!”
For a few more moments, you kept up the playful tickles, making him laugh and squirm until he finally collapsed against the floor, completely defeated and still giggling.
You immediately stopped and flopped beside him.
Cedar lay there panting softly, cheeks flushed pink, hair all messy from the chaos. Every few seconds another tiny residual giggle escaped him, and each one made your heart do a backflip.
You turned onto your side to look at him. “Okay. Important question.”
He eyed you suspiciously. “What?”
“Did I make your birthday extra special?”
Cedar’s expression softened instantly. He reached over and poked your nose gently.
“You always make things extra special, kiddo.”
Your entire face went warm.
“Th-That’s not fair,” you mumbled. “You can’t say nice things after I just attacked you.”
He laughed softly again and pulled you into a side hug. “I can if it’s true.”
You buried your face against his shoulder with a tiny whine. “You’re gonna give me cuteness aggression forever.”
Cedar started scratching behind your ear again, and you immediately melted.
“Aww,” he murmured, clearly delighted by your reaction. “Look at my sweet pup. All tuckered out after working so hard to make me laugh.”
You grumbled into his shoulder, but your tail was absolutely wagging.
“Happy birthday to me,” he said with a fond little chuckle.
You looked up and smiled shyly. “Happy birthday, Cedar.”
And judging by the way he was still smiling, still laughing softly, and still holding you close, you were pretty sure your mission had been a complete success.
