Hollow

Woah hi guys so I’m working on a Halloween-adjacent story/world called Hollow that’s kind of half the reason I downloaded Tumblr, to post stuff abt it and see audience reception and get ideas n stuff :)) I might make a separate blog for it tbh but for now have a general description and some cool art I’ve made of it so far

Hollow is a world themed around Halloween, taking it to a much different level than how it’s portrayed today. It’s a work-in-progress visual novel game I’m planning to make, with it still being in the writing and world-building phase.

When You, the player, are running away from whatever current life you have, you find yourself boarding an old steam locomotive and heading to wherever it takes you. While you’re sound asleep, the conductor—or lack thereof—takes you to Hollow, a strange and eerie new world that worships Halloween as a cultural event. On the outside, one you depart from The Train, it seems somewhat similar to the one you inhabit (minus the Halloween thing), but once you start to wander aimlessly in the forest and the Night Terrors start to hunt you, you realize it’s game over unless you can find shelter.

There are four main villages in Hollow—Ridgebrooke, Wrile, Atrophy, and Blade’s Edge, all of which have different themes I wish to explore, as well as the forests outside said villages that can switch between cozy and calm to horrifying and dangerous the moment the moon rises and sets. The people here are odd and strange and unpredictable; they can be your greatest fears or your closest allies, and each has a story to tell, as long as you’re willing to listen.

Your goal is to find The Train and leave here alive, although there are obstacles that block your escape: cultists, Night Terrors, the upcoming winter that leads to the arrival of the dreaded Saint Nick, even your own curiosity may lead you astray. Despite these distractions, there are many ways you can achieve escape, but not all these ways favor the people you may grow to care about.

Unofficial design/concept for the player, You. They’re faceless because I want them to be kinda up to interpretation (to a certain extent) as that’s kinda the whole point, you do what YOU would do if you were in their situation (workshopping it). Kinda like the opposite of Kris Deltarune lol

woah !! what a silly location; i didn’t know that the they added a new stop on the pillary ruins line. time to go explore !! luckily, book is a Totes Legit Atlas Of This Place That Isn’t The Pillary Ruins But The Train Goes Here Anyway. where should she go next ?
