a study in: keeping things need-to-know, being so entwined with a place that it's you and you are it, knowing more than you should, a lack of ambition, appreciating the little things, and knowing when things just aren't worth being stressed out about.

i believe i'm going to be moving all my muses to my multifandom multimuse, including kariya. i understand if i lose people this way, but i'm trying to focus most of my creative energy on an original novel i'm already 50k words into; my goal is to get it all written and edited by the end of the year. because of that, i don't have it in me to maintain multiple blogs. as it is, i'm finding myself too stressed thinking about which blog to go on that i end up not going on a blog at all. i'll be crossposting this on all my blogs, and i may reblog it a time or two and add a note to the pinned.

nothing's been transferred over to the carrd yet, but i have quite a few blogs i need to transfer so that will take some time.

to start, let's look at the kanji for kariya kōki's name: 狩谷 拘輝. let's follow that up with the kanji for shibuya-ku: 渋谷区. notice that bolded one? on its own, the meaning isn't that important. it's just valley. but it's the -ya sound in both shibuya and kariya, written with the same kanji, and it is not the only kanji that can be used for that sound in the name kariya.

now, let's circle back to something i've talked about before, but that was before my genius girlfriend had a brain blast last night i've been thinking about all day: the likelihood of kariya's noise form being a dog.

much in the same way that you can swap kanji components around in minamimoto’s name to get the kanji for lion, you can do a little movement with kanji components in kariya's name to get inu for dog. (another interesting fact from my research: 狗 as a kanji is older and really only used in certain phrases nowadays, having been replaced by 犬 in modern japanese. that's neither here nor there.)

anyway, how is that relevant to shibuya? well, shibuya has a very notable dog figure: hachikō. to make a long, sad story short: hachikō would meet his owner at shibuya station every day after work. when his owner died, hachikō continued to go wait for him at the same place and time every day for nine-ish more years until he too died. hachikō is a symbol of loyalty, and is important enough in shibuya to have a square bearing the name.

his name sharing a kanji with shibuya itself. kubo trying and failing to kill him twice. him and uzuki having parallel hair/inverted eye colors to neku and shiki. him knowing more than he should about taboo noise in the first game. the implication of him knowing what hanekoma is and trying to contact him in the second.

i also got a second cat i am working on introducing to my current one, and i have my bestie flying down tuesday to stay with me a good chunk of september.
