On a quick note I wanna say that this is my personal headcanon, so please don’t go into the notes of my post to argue why I’m wrong. Although I completely welcome you to share your own points on why Albedo is autistic and your hc’s for him, I’d love to see your thoughts!!

Also! I still am only on friendship level one, so I don’t have much in depth information on him, but I will reach to my hearts content.

1. Special interest

Albedo’s number one in your face character trait is his intense interest in alchemy. His life is narrowed down to his research in pursuit of alchemy to the exclusion of everything else that doesn’t have to do with it.

He’s shown to have very little patience in things that don’t interest him, he loses his tact all together and doesn’t care if it’s obvious. He has great difficulty in making conversation that doesn’t have to do with his interests, and info dumps whenever possible. He literally constantly talks about alchemy. I am not complaining it’s very cute. Please listen to him.

And even in other areas of interest, it all devolves from his study of alchemy.

2. Flat effect/Bluntness

Another notorious trait of Albedo’s is his extremely monotonous voice and flat facial expression . The emotion in his voice is very muted and he’s very blunt and short spoken when conversing with people. I find this often gives him a bit of a rude impression. Although this isn’t intentional, he’s a very kind boy :)

3. Difficulty making and maintaining relationships

Albedo is shown to have a difficulty in making and maintaining relationships, as well as interacting with others. His main relationships are through teaching and with the traveller, again linking back to his special interest and comfort zone. He has difficulty having a conversation without turning it into a thesis. He seems to prefer to be alone and have his research done by himself.

He also seems to have a sense of loneliness and alienation.

(btw, this was the scene where I was like...this guy is for sure autistic. He is me now. I know this is referring to his backstory but *grabby hands*. Feeling like you’re from another world altogether is huge autistic feeling)

4. High logic and Muted emotional expression

I find Albedo thinks very logically and doesn’t have a solid grasp on how he’s feeling, and what he logically knows he should be feeling and how he should react. Only after Paimon and the traveller point out that his sketch book has great emotional significance to him, he reconsiders. But even then he understands it as something tedious to be done rather than the connection and love it has. He expresses and reacts in a different and muted way.

Although this is a lot of me projecting, I have a hard time in the discrepancy between what I’m feeling, what I think I logically should be feeling, and how I express that. So Albedo is now my therapy lmao.

5. Getting along better with a different age group

This definitely isn’t a set autistic trait, but I see it very commonly in the autistic community. In my experience as a child I felt that I fit in and got along with adults more than children my age, and then as I got older I had an easier time with people younger than me. I find that Albedo is very reminiscent of this. He has a much easier time conversing and understanding children and has a patience for them he doesn’t show with adults.
