23:44. you've woken up again. it's been an entire day, since he said it was the wrong number.
you can't actually tell who he likes. he seems nice to kiyoko, but he's pretty teasing to yachi. although he is teasing to everyone. you could ask yamaguchi but then it makes it obvious you harbor feelings for him.
maybe he doesn't like anyone, you think. that might be it, yeah. if he doesn't like anyone, you have a chance! girl you know damn well.
at this point, you may as well stop pining over a hopeless case. you feel like giving up, until your phone vibrates. you haven't used it in a couple of days, not that much since midterms are approaching.
with the lack of sleep and running on fumes, you lazily open it; lying on your side as you enter your password. there's only one notification.
1 message from tsukishima kei
oh gosh, oh gosh, oh my goodness— a MESSAGE!? from the guy you were just thinking about? maybe you're dreaming, you've finally fallen asleep and this is all a dream.
you pinch yourself. no it is not.
after almost a minute of your panic, you reluctantly and hesitantly open your messages app. at the very top, stands his name with a ‘+1’. with slightly shaky fingers, you tap on it.
“hey. i just wanted to say that i feel bad about yesterday night, and that entire wrong contract incident. you were ignoring me today, and i wanted to give you space, so i’ll tell you this. it wasn't a wrong contract. it was for you. i actually like you.”
he sends another. “oh my gosh i sound so cheesy”
then another. all in front of your eyes. “yeah, uhm, that's it. good night.”
you almost squeal, but you remember you have your parents in the next room. instead, you squirm around in bed, giggling and gushing silently to yourself like a worm with salt showered over it. girl if you don't grab that phone
you remember, it's now your turn to text him. you sigh, mulling over the words you want to say, how you want to say them — how to convey your feelings. you tap away at the keyboard that sits on your screen, before hitting send.
“hi tsukki,” you start. you're cringing already, this sounds so cheesy. “i just wanted to say that i like you back, kind of since the start of middle school when i first met you with yamaguchi. i guess we can settle it in the morning before class starts, so i hope you have a good night as well :)”
you really hope he isn't going to run off at the fact you sound like a cheesy anime MC confessing to her perfect crush under a cherry blossom tree. oh gosh, what if you scared him off?
though, something stops your train of thoughts. it's the little text bubble on your screen, the three dots disappearing and re-appearing like a pattern, until you see a message. it's his reply. it's him. you recall that it's actually him speaking and you're not in a scarily realistic dream.
his reply reads, “why not settle it now?”
you nearly fall off the bed in giddy joy
long story short, you two were officially a couple the following morning. isn't that cute?
i’m jealous of my own fanfiction.
