I wonder how long it will take the amazing digital circus fandom to realize that just because a certain character is inspired by another character, doesn't automatically mean that said inspired character is automatically going to go on the same exact route as the character they were inspired from.
Thus, I'm going to say this one time and one time only.
Caine is not evil. Caine is not fucking evil. He isn't some 'secret evil mastermind' who has intentions of wanting to hurt the cast for his own personal gain. And if you think otherwise, you clearly don't understand Caine's character at all. And you'll begin to notice how ever since episode 6 dropped, all of a sudden people want to bring up I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream. And mind you, it's one of the only times Caine was ever even mentioned and only mentioned when he is associated with AM. Like, it actually baffles me how much this fandom truly misunderstood Caine. So let me just break it down.
Both Caine and AM are sentient AIs. Quite literally the only similarities they have is having humans trapped in both of their realms. And if you actually paid ATTENTION, you'd realize just how much both Caine and AM have completely different motivations. AM is the exact definition of hate. He HATES humans. He intentionally wants to harm them due to his thirst for revenge even his own creators. His desire to think, do certain things, and experience what was like to be human got to him so much that the moment AM truly realized that he was nothing more than a machine, he snapped. That alone set him on a rampage and his wants to get rid of the entire human race. He is intentionally malicious and cunning. He is evil. He finds absolute joy in torturing humans because that's what he wants.
Caine is the complete opposite of that. Unlike AM, Caine actually loves the humans. And not only does he love them, his entire existence is solely made to create adventures and entertain his guests. Caine is like the happy go lucky and wacky version of AM who is filled with love instead of hate, and it's noticeable if you, again, actually pay attention to both of these characters' motivations.
Caine is slowly breaking as the episodes go by. For such a huge fandom who'd immediately go out of their way to defend Jax despite his shitty actions towards the other characters, you guys sure do love disregarding Caine's own problems just because he's the ringmaster of the circus. If anything, he's just as trapped in his own world as everyone else is. You can clearly see that if Caine were to show any other emotion other than his happy facade, the entire fucking circus glitches. Including himself. If Caine acts a certain way, the whole entire circus would probably crash. And it's only going to get worse since Zooble is the only one so far, that's continuously pushing Caine to his breaking point and potentially snapping.
And as I mentioned before, Caine's entire existence is making adventures. It's his purpose as a creation. If he fails to satisfy his guests, that means he's failed at the one thing he's good at. Caine literally mentions that in episode 3 as well, but go off on calling him 'evil', I guess.
And let's be honest, the only reason why such a large majority of people fail to understand Caine is because they are still stuck on episode 2 where he exploded Gummigoo and to be honest, I get the reaction. I get it. As much as I wanted Gummigoo so bad to stay in the circus, even I knew for a full on fact that he wasn't going to be there for long since he's not even part of the main cast. The guy is literally just an npc that Pomni just so happened to make friends with. And as much as I love Gummigoo, some of you guys are genuinely weird for still holding onto a grudge against Caine for so long. Especially since Pomni has already moved on from the fact that Gummigoo is never actually coming back and has moved on. Like please for fucks sake, just get over it. No Patrick, Caine is not secretly evil for getting rid of his OWN CREATION because he wanted to keep track of who was an npc and who wasn't. Like, ain't no way y'all care for a gummy alligator this much to the point you're completely mischaracterizing Caine and miss the entire point of his character.
Caine clearly has a hard time understanding humans and what they really want. Caine doesn't know that he's actually harming his guests with his adventures. To him, what he's doing is right. He has good intentions. Does it make any of his adventures less dangerous? No. But you can get an understanding of where he's coming from because let's be honest. If you were just an ai and your entire purpose was to entertain humans, but all you've gotten was complaint after complaint after complaint, you'd eventually freak out and want to crash out too. Because what do you mean that I'm bad at literally the one thing I was created for? I'd feel like an absolute burden to everyone, and I'm sure that's how Caine is actually feeling right now at this very moment. All Caine wants is to be told that he is loved and that what he's doing is right. He wants his guests to enjoy his adventures. He wants his guests to be happy. But he's not making them happy and that's what is setting him off. The SUGGESTION BOX made him jealous because of the fact that it made his guests more happy than his own adventures. And to him, that pretty much took over his job. Caine is having a difficult time right now and I wish his haters could actually look into him as a character rather than just blatantly calling him "evil" or the next "AM". Caine is his own character and I wish he was seen as such. It breaks my heart to see just how misunderstood he truly is because Caine is actually very relatable in terms of wanting to satisfy people only to get no appreciation in return. Caine just wants to be loved. And right now, he's alone. He's slowly breaking and nobody even notices it yet. Caine is coming to realization to just how much he means little to everyone around him. How unimportant he is. How useless he is. How damaged he truly has become. Caine has given up on trying to satisfy his guests because it means absolutely nothing anymore. He can't take it anymore and it's eating up his sanity the more he holds in his inner rage.
He is just as trapped as everyone else in the circus.
"Caine is inspired by AM btw"
"Caine is inspired by AM so that means he's evi-" genuinely shut the fuck up. You don't know what inspired actually means.
