To Mitch’s complete and utter shock, he managed to get away with it. 

It wasn’t like he expected everyone else to be as chatty as he was, but he had figured there would be a bit more back and forth, at least a little extra jabbering to have to sweat through.

Fortunately, it seemed like practice had managed to wear out the rest of the team, and they were quickly splitting into groups of two and three. Lunch plans were flying through the air. Offers to go grab a movie here, a beer there; Marchy and Nate were even trying to get Sid to join them for an escape room of all things. 

Occasionally a teammate would come over and check in, ask him why he was sitting in the corner still half dressed in pads and gear. There was even a terrifying five minutes where he was sure Bennet had caught on to what was going on, but no dice. 

For the most part they left him on his own, and Mitch was counting every single one of his lucky stars. 

All it took was about twenty minutes of idly scrolling through his phone, texting back Tone and sending Matty a picture of a brick dressed up in a princess outfit with the caption this u? And then, before he knew what he was going to do about his problem, Mitch was completely, blessedly, alone .
