hi everyone! I’m a hockey blog here and for the past 8 months I’ve trying to build a code that would act as a calculator for various ideas. I finally manage to write them the way I wanted and I thought it would be fun to set up a blog for interaction!
there are five calculators and I will explain them below. if you have an idea for a calculator please let me know and I’ll see if it’s something that I could work on!
CALCS:
Playoff Scenario Calc
This page allows a user to type in their desired team to see what is needed in order to clinch a playoff spot. There are three tiers for all teams in the division (for a division spot) and in the conference (for wild card spots); if the opponent wins all games, if they do average, and if they lose badly for the rest of the season. There might be corrections to this: I might make the “average tier” turn into based on their win percentage but I’m not exactly sure how to do that as of right now.
Winners Calc
This is most likely the simplest calculator: it calculates who has the greatest chance of winning the cup based on their win percentage. This graph allows you to remove teams to see what the odds would be without them in the equation.
The What If Calcs
These three are supposed to answer you “what if questions.” What if the Leafs win the next three games but then lose the next five? Where will they be in the standings? Will they still have a shot at playoffs?
What If
You choose a team and choose how many games they win or lose to see where they land in the standings and if they would clinch or not. The rest of team’s points/standings are based on their current win percentage. This one is simpler but not as accurate and you can’t control much (i.e. if they lose in overtime; it’s based on the two points or nothing).
What If Single Team
You can select a team and then choose out of that team’s schedule what games the team loses, wins, or loses in overtime to see where they will end up in the standings!
What if All Team
You can choose who loses, wins, or loses in an overtime for ALL teams! This is the most accurate but also the longest meaning it takes a while to select each odd (and gets shorter as we get through the season).
So there we have it! I am building this blog now rather than later when the season is closer so that I can have some feedback on the calculators! Is this something that you’d like to use? Are there more “calculators” that you would like to see? I’ll post photos and examples for each calculator and link them to this post soon. Thank you so much everyone!
