Summary: This is set in TRR Book 1, not in a particular chapter, but around the times Drake and Mc started to spend some alone time together. Drake waits for her as he struggles with his feelings and the ghosts of his past haunt him constantly.
Rating: PG 13 I think. There is some swearing because we are going inside Drakeâs head.Â
Disclaimer: I donât own the characters, they belong to Pixelberry Studios.
Authorâs Note: My MCâs name is Anne Boleyn and the Kingâs name is Henry.
This is one of my give away fanfics. @grumpycommoner asked something that has Drake in it and something angst. Iâm not very good at writing angst (it always ends up sweet, I canât help it) but I tried. Hope you enjoy!
Drake shakes his head, furious at himself and drains the glass in his hand. He shouldnât be here waiting, so damn hopeful for Anne to show up. He shouldnât have invited her in the first place. But he just couldnât resist. Something happened to him whenever he was around her. His whole body ached to be near her, his hands wanted to feel her soft skin, he wanted to inhale her sweet scent, he couldnât help but wonder how she would tasteâŚ
Fuck. Get it together, Walker.
He pours himself another glass of whiskey and puts his head between his hands. He promised himself he wouldnât put himself in this kind of situation again. He closed the door on relationships or any kind of feelings a long time ago. And he was doing perfectly fine. Until she came alongâŚ
Anne was different from all the other women he ever knew in his entire life. There was something light about her, she carried life like it was weightless. He almost envied her for it. She was witty and charming, always a beautiful smile on her face always knew what to do or say to keep him on his toes. She was so beautiful that he often couldnât keep his eyes off of her. Whenever she wore an edgy dress, he couldnât help but imagine what she was hiding under it, what it would feel like to feel her curves⌠And God, she was challenging as hell. She always pushed him to drop down his walls and let her in. He acted like he was frustrated but the truth was she was the only person he truly wanted to let inâŚ
No, donât even think about it. I canât do this. Not again.
Drake takes a sip from his whiskey. He knows that she is here for Henry. Everyone is always here for Henry and she wouldnât be an exception. Why would she? She deserves everything and he has nothing. He is a nobody compared to Henry. He would be a fool to think that he would even stand a chance with Anne when Henry offers her his love and his kingdom. A fucking fool, just like he was years agoâŚ
Drake and Henry were inseparable since they were very young. Drake knew that Henry was a prince, their lives and families were very different from each other, but when it was just the two of them when they were playing and going into all kinds of adventures and troubles together, they were equals. Henry never acted like he was superior in any way and they always had each otherâs backs. It was very rare for someone else to join them and when they did, Drake usually wasnât very happy about it. He had started to build walls from a very young age because of the fact that his family was a commoner one and all around them, there were nobles who looked down at them. His walls werenât that thick and tall yet, but they were there.
One day, when Drake was around 16 years old, a new family came to court. King Constantine needed new guards and one of the guards he recruited came with his family. He had a beautiful 15-year-old daughter with long blonde hair and shining blue eyes. The first time Drake saw her, he felt something weird happening to his body. His heart began to race in his chest and when she smiled at him, he could swear the air left his lungs.
âHi,â she said still smiling.
âHi,â he answered, his voice a little squeaky. He cleared his throat as the girl suppressed a giggle. âIâm Drake.â
âMary.â She offered him her hand and when their hands met he felt a fire in his stomach for the first time in his life and a blush crept up his cheeks.
ââŚWelcome to court, Mary.â
Following weeks passed in a blur. Drake felt so happy and carefree. He and Mary spent a lot of time together and he introduced her to Henry. She was very impressed that he was so close with the Prince. Drake even invited her to the garden maze when he and Henry went to hang out there, even though it was their special place. Henry didnât mind, he was kind as always. He realized that this girl was special for his best friend and he often encouraged Drake to tell her how he felt.
One afternoon, when Drake and Mary were walking around the gardens, he gathered all his courage. She was beautiful as always, wearing a sweet yellow dress and her hair dancing with the wind that carried the smell of her to Drake.
âMaryâŚâ He trailed off.
âYes, Drake?â She eyed him curiously.
He took a deep breath. âThere is something I wanted to tell you⌠I⌠I like you, Mary.â
Mary raised her eyebrows. âYou meanâŚ?âÂ
Drake imagined this moment several times when he was alone but he never imagined this.
There was a cold, distant look in her eyes. She was quiet for a while. Then she stopped walking and turned to him.
âOh?â Drake felt like he was just punched in the face.
âYes, I⌠I like Henry. He is just so dreamy. I mean, he is the Prince!â She sighed.
âYes, of course.â Drake felt an irresistible urge to run away but he couldnât move his legs.
âI really would like to keep seeing you, you are a good friend.â She smiled but her smile didnât reach her eyes.
âYeah⌠Sure⌠Look, I need to go now. Iâll see you later.â With that Drake turned on his heels and started to walk away. When he was far enough, he broke into a run, not knowing where he was going. He just ran and ran⌠and ran.
He avoided Mary as much as he could the following days. She was his first crush and he felt a pain he never felt before. He was very quiet and he frowned a lot. Henry knew something was wrong with his best friend but didnât want to push him. Instead, he decided to talk to Mary.
Drake saw them talking over the barns from a distance. He wanted to turn and walk away but his feet carried him towards them. He hid behind a wall and listened.
âI told him that I wanted to keep seeing him, but he keeps avoiding me. He is a good friend, but I like someone else.â Drake saw the way she looked at Henry when she said those words, from the corner of his eye.
âOh, Iâm sorry to hear that. Drake is a really great guy.â Henry shook his head, clueless.
âYeah, maybe. But he is⌠nobody compared to youâŚâ
âWhat?â Henryâs eyes widened.
Drake heard Mary sigh. âYou are the one I like. You have everything I could ever want and he has⌠nothing. I mean⌠what can he even offer me? AndâŚâ
Drake couldnât listen to it any longer. He turned around and got away from there as fast as he could.Â
Her words would ring in his ears for the rest of his life.
âHe is nobody.â
âHe has nothing.â
âNothing to offer me.â
âHe is nobody.â
âNobody compared to you.â
âNobody.â
âNobody.â
âNobody.â
That was it for Drake. He never talked to Mary again. Henry shut her off too and they never ever spoke of her again. Drake never allowed himself to have feelings for another girl. Of course, he had a few girlfriends as he was growing up but he never truly let them in. He never allowed anyone except Henry inside his walls which were now a lot taller than beforeâŚ
Drake closes his eyes and lets out a frustrated sigh as he tries to shake away the memories of his past. Maryâs wordsâ haunted him for a very long time.
She was right. Iâm nobody compared to Henry.Â
And to think about Henry⌠Drake sees the way he looks at Anne. Henry never looked at anyone like that before. Henry was always there for him, always loyal to their friendship and Drake hates himself for betraying his best friend like this. He just canât help how he feels about Anne as he falls a little harder for her every fucking day.
But I can help how I act about it.
He stands up in an instant as he decides that itâs best to just leave right now. Itâs best to just ditch her and never ever ask her to spend time together again. Ever. Just when he starts to move he hears the door open.
Anne comes in quietly and when she sees him, her eyes shine brightly. She smiles her beautiful smile at him as her sweet scent fills the whole room and Drake can swear his heart just skipped a beat. Maybe even a few beats. She comes closer and puts her hand on his forearm.
He can feel all his walls crumbling under her touch.
