I’ve been seeing some comments and hashtags on my recent posts that seem to imply that limb discoloration (purple/ blue) in rope bondage is a bad thing or a sign of sloppy rigging) It’s actually not. It’s VERY common (especially on people with pale skin) and is usually a sign of restricted circulation which is relatively fine on healthy people for limited amounts of time (I tend not to leave a person in the same suspension pose for more than 20 minutes). That being said everyone’s risk profile is different and people tie at different skill levels. Suspension should be treated as an extreme sport. It’s dangerous and should only be done by risk aware people who have put in the time to study tension, physics, anatomy, nerve functions, and a whole host of other things (I have been studying for 6 years and still study and learn every chance I get) I have learned in person from medical professionals (doctors, nurses, EMT’s who also practice kink/ shibari) and professional riggers and circus performers. So in summary, purple limbs in shibari are not indicative of injury, harm , or inexperience. Please don’t do what I do without extensive studying and training. Thanks ya’ll 🖤
