Matthew 10:8 (KJV)
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
The Ancient Greek writers Herodotus and Xenophon used the word therapeuō (θεραπεύω) for worship in connection with serving their gods. Yet this word is never used for worship in the New Testament. Instead it’s used in Mathew and other places by Jesus as the word heal. This word is where the English word therapy comes from.
In the New Testament the word commonly used for worship is proskyneō which speaks of reverence, submission, and adoration. Both involve service, but it goes far beyond the actions to the motive. There are two lessons here, one is that worship is far more than what we do, it’s both Who we worship and the heart behind it.
The second is this, the only One worthy to be attended to, to be served, came to heal and make whole. He did this, not out of obligation, but love. We must never forget, His healing, His grace, and the opportunity to worship Him isn’t because we are worthy, but because He Who alone is worthy loves us!

Listen, wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, no matter what you have to say, listen. Your experiences, your intentions, and your communication will be made better by the input of others. Listening does not mean you don’t have insight, just the opposite.
Listening shows first that you value others, that you care. It communicates that you value someone enough to hear what they are feeling. It also grants you a perspective besides your own. Of all the characteristics I hope my life communicates, the chiefest are faith, love, and valuing others.
My faith obviously, I believe The Lord Jesus is exactly Who He said, and that the evidence declares this plainly. I believe He loves, and that it’s the best pattern one could follow. Finally I know that saying I Love You and showing you value someone should not be two different things, but often it appears to. Taking time for others has taught me more than any words I have ever spoken or written.
Learn from others. Invite them to share what they are feeling. Speak to encourage, to edify, or build them up. Talk less, not because you have nothing to say, but because you value others. Edit your responses so they don’t communicate unkindness. Need others, not for what they do, but for who they are. It’s a wonderful way to spell the word listen, and in turn it also can spell love to others.
It was too obvious a title to use born on the Fourth of July, but there was only one president who could say that. The only one on the fourth who could have a birthday party was Calvin Coolidge, born on July 4th, 1872. For today’s world watercolor month post, here is Silent Cal himself.
