Angst and Stuff

maybe they’re too sick to move. maybe they’re injured and broken. maybe they’re dying.

Picture it:

Whumpee crumpled up in a ball on their cell floor, clutching the hilt of a knife buried in their gut, blood seeping from between their teeth.

Whumpee who fell several stories during a buildings collapse and can’t move a muscle to escape the rubble because there’s a rod sticking out of their abdomen, pinning them to the ground.

Whumpee tied up in their seat, unconscious. Rescuer finds them with nails pinning their hands to the arms of the chair.

Whumpee who has been shot and Medic who is frantically looking for the bullet but can’t find it. Caretaker holds Whumpee’s head in their lap, trying to keep them from falling asleep as they slowly bleed out. OR…

Whumpee that’s been shot but has no way to fish the bullet out, whether it be too deep in or they just don’t have the knowledge to do so. They sew up the hole in their abdomen, limb, etc., with nothing more than a prayer that it didn’t hit anything vital.

"Why does it sound like you're saying goodbye?"

I really do love it when a character gets to safety after some grueling experience they survived and got out of by their own strength and skill and cunning, and... then gets drastically worse very rapidly afterwards. Just utterly collapsing, sick, out of strength, in so much pain, hardly able to get out of bed without help, probably emotionally an utter mess too

Because they've just been pushing their body on and on, to its limits and past, because they had to, because it was up to them to deal with it all, there was no help, no back-up, nothing to rely on but themself. So their mind and body have just burned up all the reserves and endured it all as best as possible, they've held together until they got out of that situation

But now that they're finally safe, their body recognizes it. Now that they're finally safe they no longer need to endure more, they no longer need to keep anything together, to push the pain and exhaustion aside and refuse to feel it in order to go on. They're finally safe to stop all of that. And so- they collapse. All of it catches up with them all at once, and they have no optipn to keep it at bay anymore, they just have to feel it. Have to suffer the consequences of all the injuries, exhaustion, whatever illness they might've picked up, whatever's going on

How are their parents? Are they good? Are they terrible? Are they dead?

Any interesting scars?

Have they died before?

What is the most dramatic bad thing that happened to them?

Have they killed anyone? If they have would they kill again? If not would they kill at all?

Whats their greatest fear?

How easy is it to make them cry?

Are they trusting or do they refuse to trust?

Are they looking for someone to save them or do they think they’re beyond saving?

How do their friends and family think of them?

Do they have a found family?

Do they have any self-destructive habits?

Are they queer?

Are they trans?

Are they nureodivergent?

Whats one song that makes you think of them?

Do they have any pets?

Are they easily scared?

Are they emotional or a stone wall?

Who understands that they're supposed to bow their head when demeaned and humiliated but doesn't feel upset.

Who knows, logically, that they're being deprived of basic needs, but feels like they can manage alright without.

Who flinches in anticipation of pain and then sighs, exasperated, at their own reaction- they should be used to it by now.

Maybe whumpee got hurt because of them or even protecting them.

Maybe they were in the same situation as whumpee and blame themselves for not risking their life as whumpee did.

Maybe they believe they have to hide something important from whumpee because bad news won’t help their recovery.

Maybe they are secretly in love with whumpee and touching them while they’re hurt feels like taking advantage of them.
