SYNONYMS FOR LOOKED!!
panic attacks while injured really hit different. no matter how they try to think logically, they can't calm down, and every sharp inhale leads to more agony--just overwhelmed and exhausted and afraid, all that emotion cutting in like glass and broken ribs, hyperventilating with a hand pressed against the injury and a broken, gasping cry of pain...
I love care resistant whumpees very dearly. whumpees who don't think they deserve care, who loathe the thought of anyone pitying them, who physically cannot be vulnerable. constantly fighting with caretaker, frustrating them, hoping they'll give out. until they can no longer run, and the pain catches up to them, and finally relents to being cared for. begrudgingly, unwillingly, filled with shame.
and shockingly? it's not so bad...
nightmares!!! whumpee who refuses to sleep around anyone because of them, knowing they'll wake up screaming, crying, freaked out in general. waking up in the middle of the night and just staring out the window, deeply zoned out.
caretaker who knows how often they have them. they settle into a routine. they wake up at the same time, or they're supposed to go to sleep around that time, and make whumpee a cup of tea. pour them a glass of water, sit with them for a minute. whumpee's reaction ranges, from sobbing into their shoulder to just quietly enjoying their presence.

Whumpee who's in critical condition. They need medical attention Caretaker can't provide.
Caretaker manages to drag Whumpee to relative safety. It's a Herculean feat, dragging their dead weight this far, all for a desperate hope that they might survive.
All Caretaker can gasp out is "Help them... please." before the exhaustion takes them too.
Fainting + Overheating tips for writing!!!
disclaimer: this is from my own experience!!! I have done literally zero research on the subjects. But as a frequent fainter that is weak to the heat (and a sickfic writer to boot!) I thought I would contribute what I went through recently for anyone wishing to write whump involving the subjects above :))
β’ There is a very definitive feeling when you are going to faint. Most media portrays it as like a sudden collapse, but for me I just knew what was gonna happen. Vision just a little fuzzy, a little off, nausea tightening like a rope in your stomach.
β’ You may think this is a passing discomfort. That itβll go away. If you are fainting, I assure you it will not. β’ I was at work once when this happened, and believe me I WANTED to keep standing. I couldnβt. Your body can be vocal when it needs to and often overpowers your resolve. Knees shake and youβre mumbling that you need to sit down before you even register it.
β’ You are NOT as coherent as you think you are. In the moment you feel fully lucid. After the event, your memory is fuzzy, and others will say you were making no sense. But at the time you felt like you were in your right mind, even if you felt awful. Especially when the heat is getting to you.
β’ Speaking of feeling awful! Pre-faint symptoms for me included: awful shivery feeling despite 100 degree heat, excess sweating, blurry vision that feels like is moving slow, black pushing at the edges of vision, fast breathing, nausea, shaking all over. β’ In my experience, fainting does not always equal loss of consciousness. I βfaintedβ and was conscious but barely so. Words sounded like they were underwater and I barely registered them. I heard people ask me questions but from a distance, like they werenβt meant for me. I was so very dizzy that everything was blurry. I was awake but nearly unresponsive.
β’ Iβve always heard that heat is the βsilent killer,β and I can tell you firsthand that it is. I got woozy and had to sit down once, felt fine after five minutes, and after standing for five more is when I became almost unresponsive. Unless you remove yourself from the heat, it will continue to wear you down unseen even if you feel better.
β’ And overheating doesnβt abate quickly. For about twenty four hours after the event, after I cooled down somewhat, I experienced heightened emotions (crying for no reason), come-and-go headaches, heightened sensitivity to the heat, dizziness when standing, lethargy, and shakiness. Oh and difficulty sleeping. Pair that with heightened emotions and itβs a rough night.
β’ And these symptoms arenβt contained within you. Others can see it too. People said I was extremely pale and washed out (this was at the moment of fainting but my complexion wasnβt quite right for a few hours), eyes not focusing well, blinking sluggishly, skin extremely hot and clammy, slurring/mumbling words, and slow to respond to things during the faint.
I think thatβs all! Again, at the moment of, I was pretty out of it so I tried to remember everything I could. I hope this is helpful!!

"Quick, bring them in!" Healer ordered, her commanding voice drowning out Whumpee's pained groans. "Put them on the table!"
Caretaker did so. They had been the one to carry Whumpee all the way back to the village after what they'd described as a wild beast attacking the two of them. Caretaker chased it off, but not before it got Whumpee, and got them good. The bite ran across their entire torso, and they were losing blood quickly. Not to mention the chance of infection.
to love a character is to put them in a hospital bed fighting for their life π₯Ή
Ttrauma doesn't make people brooding and mysterious and dramatically sad all the time. That's the movie version. Real trauma is your character flinching at a sound and not knowing why. It's them being completely fine for weeks and then not fine at all because of something small and stupid like a specific smell or the way light came through a window. It's not a personality. It's an interruption. It arrives uninvited and it doesn't care about your plot. Write it like that.Β pls.

Stress causing illnessess, happening in both hurt/comfort phases:
Stress from being captured, tortured, wounded, neglected, beaten, abandoned.
Even with Caretaker, stress from slow recovering, treatment, appointments, side-effects, being asked questions, releiving and recalling every details as strangers take notes and pry for more information.
