Found this little gem on Facebook. Other than the blatant disrespect of our development and all the lovely dehumanization, this is chalk full of down-right lies. Apparently this is an extremely magnified photo of a 5 week old embryo. This is what the creator of this image says is the true âfaceâ of abortion. This makes no sense though, this is not the after math of an abortion this is what the unborn looks like before an abortion, before they can be torn to pieces and separated from their mother and thrown away like garbage. Also, notice how they put the word face in quotes, applying that if a humans face doesnât look like the âtypicalâ or ânormalâ face, itâs not really a face. This is just an underdeveloped face, thatâs all. One day this growing, developing person might have bright blue eyes, or maybe deep shades of brown, a button nose, or a slender nose, perhaps thin shapely lips, or pouty lips, who knows? We all looked like this at one point though, everyone youâve ever loved, admired, shared laughs with, hugged, and smiled at looked just like this at one point in their life. So, yes, I find this extremely insulting. The person who made this says that pro-life people think once a women gets pregnant she should âlose her rights as a citizen and as an autonomous human beingâ. This is obviously a huge load of crap. Nobody loses rights once they become pregnant and an unborn baby doesnât âgainâ more rights, they receive equal rights for being a human being, just like their mother. Since this photo tries so hard to dehumanize a 5 week old embryo letâs learn some fun facts about their development, you know, all the interesting stuff about them! At 5 weeks arm buds and feet are forming, with webbing in-between the toes and fingers, within a week theyâll begin to move them. A 5 week old embryos heart is beating twice as fast as its mother, the heart is beginning to divide into 2 chambers. Their tongue and vocal chords are already beginning to form. See, as a person who values human life at every stage, from conception to death, it doesnât matter what someone looks like. You could be missing both eyes, your nose, your mouth, teeth, tongue, ears, etc and Iâd still defend your right to life. Thereâs something wrong with your movement when you have to use such dehumanizing language to justify it. Every time someone has used dehumanization to justify the killing of human life theyâve been on the wrong side of history.
It is not until after the procedure that they realize what is happening to their baby or to themselves. Ninety percent of these women start crying afterwards and it is not because of the pain.

The mission of the March for Life is to provide all Americans with a place to testify to the beauty of life and the dignity of each human person. Both in January, on the anniversary of legalized abortion in the US, and throughout the year we bring together pro-life leaders and groups to organize, unite and strategize around a common message, and to communicate this message to the government, the media and the nation in a way that is powerful and life affirming. #CatholicConnect #MarchForLife #Prolife

I am catholic and I personally think that being pro-life is selfish, since you would never do an abortion so to you it doesnât matter and just because you (who wouldnât even ever do it) donât want it to happen nobody should do it. And yes if youâre religious enough to not do it then thatâs between YOU and GOD not between the person who does an abortion and god that isnt even your matter?
Sorry for taking so long to reply to this (itâs been a few days, I guess). I am a graduate student so my time isnât as free as Iâd like it to be. Most of my posts are on a queue.Â
Also, I feel this bears a more serious, thought-out response, so here we go. Forgive me if it sounds too much like an essay, I am taking a break from a 2500 word paper about the Mystical Body of Christ & the Church as bride. So. Yeah.Â
First of all, I really question your understanding of Catholicism. Being âpro-choiceâ, or rather, pro-abortion or âreproductive rightsâ is definitively anti-Catholic and anti-Christian. If you would like me to cite this, I am more than happy to.Â
I expect the reason why youâve hidden behind the anonymous option is because you feel a twinge of guilt for the beliefs you have. Fair enough, Iâm not going to judge you as a person, you might be entirely delightful. However, I am going to propose a few things to you that I hope you take to heart (and everyone reading this takes to heart, honestly).Â
Secondly, Iâd like you to think about what selfishness is. Letâs have a looksee at the definition here for a moment.Â
Now, I can imagine where you get the notion that, on behalf of a pro-lifer, it is selfish. The pro-lifer wants some other person who doesnât share the same values as them to conform to those values! How awful! I wouldnât want anyone making me conform to their values, especially if I disagree with them. I donât want someone to force me to wear a hijab, I donât want someone to tell me that I can never eat meat again, I donât want someone telling me that I have to believe in the pagan gods of Rome. Fair enough.Â
But consider this: pro-lifers arenât imposing their beliefs on another person to âlimit their freedomsâ. Theyâre not imposing their beliefs at all, really (more about that at the end). Theyâre trying to save a life, hence the name of the movement. As soon as sperm meets egg, a new life form is created. Yes, itâs tiny and yes itâs not viable on its own, but it is a new life form, with its own DNA, own body (though still developing), and own soul (itâs a fact whether you believe in it or not). What is selfish, however, is deciding that just because you donât want to accept the consequences of your own action, you decide to punish that tiny life.Â
Weâre all horrified to see stories on the news of mothers starving their babies or drowning them in bathtubs or abusing them in any way. Why is it any less when they are broken apart and sucked out of their motherâs womb?Â
But, I hear the crowd yelling in the background, what about those poor souls who are raped and conceive a child as a result? Why would you make that poor girl suffer and bear that child of hatred?Â
My answer to that is this:Â
Why punish the child for the crime of their father? North Korea does that, and not only one is punished, but the whole family. Itâs a larger scale, sure, but it still disgusts everyone internationally. Why would you want people to sink to that level? Okay, the poor woman isnât ready, but there is such a thing as adoption. There are so many couples out there who, due to health issues, cannot have children of their own. Why deny them the possibility of having a family?Â
One of my closest friends was adopted, and though she wonders about her birth-mother, she is still very happy to be alive and her adoptive parents love her. Actually, she has this sweet mug that says âlife is lovelyâ and she tries to live it every day. Sheâs one of the most caring and loving people Iâve ever met in my life and I donât know what my life would be like had she never had the chance to live. I also know a couple who has two girls, both adopted, who are the sweetest and happiest little things. One of the girls has down syndrome, actually, and she is just the bubbliest little thing (though she and her sister pretty much only speak Danish and German haha).Â
And as to the âitâs between you and Godâ comment, yes. I agree. My relationship with God is mine. Pro-lifers arenât trying to make every single pregnant woman go to mass or convert to Catholicism/Christianity. Iâm sure many would be happy if everyone did, but I donât know anyone in the pro-life movement who does thatâŚand bear in mind Iâve been an active member of the pro-life movement for over ten years now. I know plenty of pro-life atheists, as well, so itâs not exactly a religious movement on its own. One of my favorite sights to see at the March for Life in DC were those âatheists for lifeâ posters. Yes, they exist, theyâre not an anomaly.Â
One last thought that Iâm happy to provide sitations for is that abortion is actually incredibly harmful to a womanâs body. Itâs unnatural and invasive and dehumanizing. It makes her body seem like a machine that has to have a process halted and reversed. There is nothing healthy about an abortion. Nothing. Itâs something that exists to eliminate a personâs responsibility for their actions and to end a life. There is no such thing as a safe abortion.
I hope this answers your question and gives you something to think about, if not Iâm sorry and Iâll pray for you. If I canât help, then hopefully our Lord can.Â
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us all for we are sinners.Â
i'm just curious as to what your stance on abortion is if the birth will kill the mother?
So, dear Anon, here we are at last. Iâm procrastinating on my paper once more!Â
Itâs a very difficult situation, to say the least. A harrowing example of this exact situation is St. Gianna Molla, who refused a very vital surgery so her baby could live. Itâs an incredible story (click her name for a link to it), but itâs not the usual situation (though I hope in that situation I would also be able to give my life for my child).Â
I think what should be done in those instances is do everything to save both mother and child, but if the child dies of natural causes, then it happens. Itâs very sad, but it does happen (it happened to a very very close relative of mine, actually). However, what should be done in those instances is to figure out which party, the mother or infant, has a higher chance of surviving, and then proceed. For instance, if the mother needs a surgery but the infant will die (as is the case of St. Gianna), then it would not be an abortion. The mother, in that instance, can have the surgery or whatever she needs to sustain her life, and it would not be an abortion.Â
I do and cannot ever condone a viable child being murdered in their motherâs womb. If the child happens to die from other complications, as tragic as it may be, then it happens and itâs devastating, but it is not an abortion. Any procedure done without the intention to âterminate the pregnancyâ, as they say, is not an abortion. Any procedure done with the direct and explicit intention of killing the child, however, is an abortion and is something I am not okay with at all.Â
I believe, as well, that this is the typical stance of the Church in these situations. Since I really should be writing that paper, I canât look it up at the moment, but if you would like me to provide material on this, shoot me another message and Iâll give it to you by Tuesday.Â
Again, personally I hope I would be like St. Gianna if I ever found myself in that situation. I say âhopeâ because, as Iâm not married and havenât ever been pregnant, Iâve never been in that situation and cannot say for sure what I would do with endorphins from fear shooting through my veins. But thatâs just me.Â

America you are beautiful ⌠and blessed ⌠. The ultimate test of your greatness is the way you treat every human being, but especially the weakest and most defenseless. If you want equal justice for all and true freedom and lasting peace, then America, defend life.

Please donât ignore the March for Life
Itâs on Friday, January 19 this year. The media will make it out to be a far smaller deal than it actually is. Hundreds of thousands of people peacefully walking the streets of the nationâs capitol will be downplayed, ignored, and berated. But we will still be there.Â
We march because we believe the world can do better.
We march because we believe nobody should be seen as a waste of space.
We march because our children are being killed.
We march because our sick are being mistreated.
We march because our elderly are being ignored.
We march because our youth are being exploited.
We march because our humanity is being commodified.Â
We march because nobody is past hope.
We march for the unborn, yes.Â
But we march for their mothers.
We march for their fathers.
We march for their brothers and sisters.
We march for those who love us.
We march for those who hate us.
We are young. We are old. We are Red, and Blue, and Centrists. We wave banners of every color and acronym imaginable. But despite all our differences, we agree on this.
The world can do better.
So we march.
95% of women don't regret their abortions, as reported by PP. Even if people do regret their abortions, that isn't grounds to make it illegal. Some people regret choosing to give birth. Some people regret giving it up for adoption. If the government illegalized things based on whether or not people will regret them then plastic surgery, tattoos, and piercings would be illegal. I shouldn't be denied an abortion just because a small percentage of people who had them regretted them.
Yes, and Planned Parenthoodâs statistics are totally unbiased. Just like only 3% of their services are definitely only abortion. Just take away the abortion services if the percentage is that low, and see if Planned Parenthood prospers just as much.
The difference between plastic surgery or tattoos or piercings is that neither of them kills a human being. Maybe that 95% statistic is right, who knows. But maybe it also doesnât consider the long-term effects of an abortion. Women who have had an abortion are 3 times more likely to commit suicide. And the risk of having at least one mental health issue between women who have had an abortion versus women who havenât? 81%. The percentage of women who report having suicidal feelings immediately after having an abortion? 45%. And 2 in 3 women who have had abortions after 12 weeks suffer from PTSD. So, if we ignore the fact that the unborn child is a human being, given that mental health deteriorates immensely following such a procedureâŚshould we still allow the women in our society to suffer in such a way?Â
We all want progress, but if youâre on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

âAlthough it is customary to divide human development into prenatal and postnatal periods, it is important to realize that birth is merely a dramatic event during development resulting in a change in environment.â âThe Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology fifth edition, Moore and Persaud, 1993, Saunders Company, page 1 #CatholicConnect #Prolife #MarchForLife #SaveTheBabies #Abortion #Babies #DefundPP #LifeIsGood (at United States Senate)
Patricia Heaton:Â âI find it impossible to subscribe to a philosophy that believes that the destruction of human life is a legitimate solution to a problem that is mostly social, economic and psychological. In reality, most women âchooseâ abortion because they believe they have no other choice.â
âWomen who experience unplanned pregnancy also deserve unplanned joy,â said Heaton, who believes abortion is evidence that society has failed to meet the real needs of women. âItâs time to raise the bar, not protect the status quo. Every woman deserves better than abortion, and every child deserves a chance at life.â
