"CIRCUS ROOM"

Audio in VR: “The Control Tower is one of the oldest buildinds of the university. It was a real control tower of military camp that was reconstructed into research service. This building is remarkable landmark due to its easy-to-recognise shape. The base valume is cylinder embed to prism. Nothern part contains rectangular backyard surrounded by two prism volumes.”

Audio in VR: “The Chemical Technology Centr is a clear example of how a building can be designed to create its own atmosphere, with its back turned on its immediate environment, which is made up chiefly of roads and a car park, and yet which is so decisively gives the building its character”

Audio in VR: “This building is arranged around a courtyard and has a timeless but unusual design, with a sunket courtyard and the rest of the building surrounding it in an open and uneven U shape, featuring classical and modern architecture, not in equal measures or half and half, but rather all of one and all of the other, in an exemplary and modern fashion, with no gratuitous spectacle and patiently decanted ”

Audio in VR: “All of us know this building. All of us are architects. The perception that we have while we are in the Patio is the continuous interaction between the different spaces that are involved in this building. Open and close spaces generate a variation that students like in their routine. The difference of the height of the buildings provide to create a variations of the landscape without a boring static place and also a variation of lights reflection. Lights and shadows are altered.”

Audio in VR: “ This building tries to isolate himself to the rest of the surrounding,researching a peaceful place in contrast with cars. The project show the ability of the architect to construct this good functional building starting from conditions that he couldn t delete. The shortage of economical resources imposed limits conditions for the project. Using the existing foundation he tries to construct a project that was bonded. The result is perfect. But are we sure that maybe the form and the choices that he made will be the same if he could have chosen without limits?”

Is not so well known, is not collocated in a very central position from people coming from outside. So why?

Audio in VR:  “The Auditorium of Villajoyosa is an example of architecture building that, not only thinking in the interior design and its own use, takes care about the relation of that space with the exterior and public area. The building, principally composed by a main volume where are located the theatre and more services, but a prolongation in the shape of a semi-circular arm create in the middle of these two different spaces an empty plaza in the exterior. That plaza is commonly used as meeting points, in events like concerts or graduations, because of the sensation of being involved by the building but at the same time staying in a public space as the street. That makes feel that this building tries to be at the same time separated of the town but connected with it, mixing with only a building the more private area and the public space just under it."

Audio in VR:  “The Municipal Police Headquearters in Villajoyosa is an example of a building which don’t seems open to the city. The estrange geometry of the walls, being an irregular pentagon, and the interior design, the more compacted as possible, look for some intimacy of the interior. The patio of the building is in the interior, guarded by the geometry and not seen in the exterior. The searching of an intimal and closed space is also achieved by the design of the light entrance of the building, having small circular windows in the rooms and skylights along the building, and the hidden patio which lights the basement jails. In conclusion, the building seems to be design for not been seen in the exterior, and only have the perception of all the interior if is really needed, crossing to the interior."

Audio in VR:  “The Youth Centre of Villajoyosa is located in the old town, and it’s properly an interior rehabilitation of a typical building of the town, in a modern style. The entrance can be understood as an extension of the street in the own building, taking in fact that it seems more than a semi-closed patio than a hall, entering the building by an aperture in the wall and having in that three-level high an space without roof, which is surrounded in the highest levels by glass. That acts as an entrance of light of the building, and also changes all the conception of that on a positive way, giving to the own building an space who, not being outside of that, acts as an exterior space, which can be very useful for the breaks of the people studying in which need to relax and take some fresh air with a coffee."

Audio in VR:  “Villajoyosa Market, as a typical market of the town, is looking for a main connection with the own town, so the design tried to open that space taking in count that the market needs to be covered of the sun. That impression is properly done by the pine trunks making an exterior skin, covering the curtain wall, a good way for allowing the vision of the surrounding streets but reducing the sun entrance. A big space like that having apertures to the surroundings make it not seeming as some giant claustrophobic supermarkets. In fact, for being more involved with the town, the market has a patio, inside the trunk skin but outside the curtain wall, which acts as an intermedium space between city and market and as a relaxing and breaking space just near the market to avoid the noise and the smell, which sometimes can be very grateful. So, the market can be felt by the consumer that is, like used to be, a part of the town and not an isolated and closed to itself building."

For the 3rd presentation, about the Leisure Machine, we made two different routes, one about the University of Alicante and other about Villajoyosa. In each one, there were some buildings, recorded to see them with the cartonglasses in VR, also with some audio talking about that buildings. The idea was walking in order to see the buildings in the route, like if you were walking in that place discovering the buildings as you move.

Our proposit with the Travelfesto was related to travel experiences. We were discussing about focusing in past, present or future experiences. Finally, we decided to use virtual reality to simulate travelling, so for making our Leisure Machine, we got some Cartonglasses.
