Pomegranate in Silk & Goldwork by Mary Corbet
hand embroidery
Bradley Whitford Went to a Rowdy Screening of âCatsâ - The Late Late Show with James Corden
charlietorresâ:
âOh, I totally forgot everyone was supposed to hate you right now.â
Charlieâs voice is light and sarcastic as they shove everything into a folder, leaving a piece out which they nudge across the table to the professor â a small embroidery hoop with different attempts at stitches they had learned from YouTube videos. It wasnât a project but ever since Wesley had showcased his designs they had been meaning to try it out and with the recent happens in Graceborough Charlie was all for anything to temporarily occupy their mind. After all, Wesley wasnât a threat. The only thing he should be criminalised for was making the class work with linen.
âOnly a cheap hoop off Amazon but those french knots and feather stitches are something else, huh? Itâd be great if you could gimme some pointers tomorrow or something because hand embroidered designs would look super cute on plain tees and jeans.â
Wes chuckled, âWell then, maybe they donât hate me as much as I thought.â he took a sip of his coffee before he took a look at the embroidery they were talking about. Theyâd done a brilliant job as far as he was concerned, considering this was something that they were apparently new to doing it was pretty good, âIâm partial to the french knots myself, yeah, I made my granddaughter, Lily, a jacket with this wee foxglove design on it. They were very good for that.â he chuckled, but nodded as he grabbed a bite of his sandwich. âMmhmâ he said before speaking once he was ready, âYeah, I can help you out if youâre struggling with them. I know french knot can get fiddly.â Wes couldnât help remembering the thousand times heâd let the loops unravel while making the aforementioned jacket, âHonestly though they look fantastic so far.â

Trying to muster up some muse for replies đŠ
âYou look like youâve had a long day?â Wes commented, it was hardly a surprise, most days around here were long days for everyone, he supposed itâd stay that way until the school returned to normal, until it was safe. âAnything I can do to help or...?â
SENTENCE MEME âś THE GOOD PLACE / 4.06 ââ 4.07 always feel free to tweak the sentence to fit your muse.
âIâm gonna tell you a story, and once thatâs done, Iâm getting rid of you.â
âSounds like someone finally put on his big boy demon pants.â
âIs this another one of your attempts to prove that humans are âgoodâ and âworthy of respectâ and not âbig fat sacks of dookieâ?â
âIt went better than we could have possible hoped.â
âI couldnât actually go skiing because moving at an angle terrifies me.â
âCongrats on the gin rummy win.â
âI thought I was gonna take you down because I used to play all the time.â
âWeâre gonna split a bottle of wine and read this terribly novel out loud.â
âShe tends to make snap judgments about people, and heâs a guy who repeatedly confirms the accuracy of her snap judgements.â
âIf you want to try something spontaneous, Iâm your guy.â
âWhat is something spontaneous that I could do right now?â
âSo, obviously, this was a troubling development.â
âEvery story about humans ends the same way.â
âJust tell me how they screwed up and put me out of my misery.â
âDo you know whatâs happening on earth right now?â
âWomen in $400 yoga pants are refusing to vaccinate their children.â
âVindictive nerds at Apple are changing the charging cable shape again.â
âWhere does this hope come from, man? This insane hope that people are worth the trouble.â
âIâll put it into terms that youâll understand: the gossip toilet was about to overflow.â
âIt isnât a sign of weakness to admit that you screwed up.â
âYou thought that ding-dong would do a total personality 180 because of one gentle metaphor?â
âWhat can I say? Iâm an optimist.â
âShe helped me realize gossip was an unhealthy way for me to boost my self-esteem.â
âIâm gonna tell him that it sucks very hard.â
âPerhaps I can convince her to handle this the British way.â
âSmile bravely, bury your feelings, and allow a steady drizzle to slowly wash away your sadness over 50 years.â
âHe needs to change, and walking on eggshells around him ainât gonna do the trick.â
âYou made a mistake. Your actions hurt people.â
âEither apologize for real or stop wasting our time.â
âI literally didnât think human beings were capable of such racist, sexist poppycock.â
âYouâre a condescending bench.â
âYou know why theyâre called baby boomers, right? Because the tiniest little pinprick to their ego, and boom. They become babies.â
âDress is London black tie. That means Knightsbridge black tie, not Kensington, or heaven forbid, West Brompton.â
âIâd advise no one look directly at me.â
âIâm gonna suggest that they make toasts about each other, celebrate their ups and downs, demonstrate personal growth, blah blah blah.â
âAs you might know, Iâve been practicing human magic.â
âDude, magic is always lame.â
âIt wasnât as juicy as some people maybe thought it was.â
âThis is the result of months of observation.â
âI know youâre gonna think Iâm crazy.â
âPanicking about this at crucial moments is kind of my move.â
âDonât fall apart on me now.â
âWeâre gonna stick to the plan, not do anything radical.â
âIâve been suspicious about this place since day one.â
âYou call her âmuffinâ?â

âPerhaps we should just put our concerns aside and enjoy ourselves.â
âOpen up your freaky crystal mind and weâll have a cosmic good time.â
âWe tried to prove your theory, but it feels like we came up empty.â
âWhy does everything I do fall apart so close to the end?â

âGiant holes are bad, so if someone falls into one, you try to help get them out.â
âIâm not scared. Iâm shouting so you know Iâm okay.â
âWe basically just confirmed that weâre lying to them.â

âDo you think if the roles were reversed, he would waste any time rescuing you?â
âHe is a person in a hole and I have a duty to help him get out.â
âThat was the most boring break up Iâve ever seen.â
âI only play games to win.â
âIâm kind of freaking out over here.â
âIâm not your friend. I donât even like you.â
âYou have never helped anyone because you donât care about other people, which is the bare minimum that a person has to do, just care a little about the other people around you, and you canât do it.â
âYou are a bad person.â
â Nothing travels faster than the speed of light with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws. â

sheilalowrieâ:
sheila wasnât a fan of the professorâs lounge, too many judgemental looks. too many ideas on how she should dress for her classes. even though she was teaching the children, and thatâs what they were â children, about performing and she was a performer. why should she not dress like a performer? she became less of a fan after the body of professor roberts, cindy, was found in this very room. a lot of her students for came from dead languages studies, thinking theyâd hear about the theaters of ancient greece or roman times. cindy was usually those students advisors, and if she had any concerns on their work ethic, that would lead to a conversation between the two professors. and sheila often had concerns about work ethic. she realized she forgot to mention that to the detectives, but didnât figure it was a relevant experience. there was nothing personal, only professional.
but she craved, no she needed caffeine. the first week of back to school was always harder on professors than students thought. they also needed to go back to the sleep schedule for early mornings that they lost on their vacations. this killer also targeted professors too and could strike at any time. something that didnât make her sleep well at night. so to the professors lounge it was, after all she needed that coffee and she was not willing to pay extra at cafe demeter for some watered down stuff. she waited her turn, seeing that professor lightfoot was currently using the machine.
they had just gotten a mug from the cupboard as they heard the other professorâs question. figuring she didnât want to give a rude impression she answered, âthey did.â she took a sharp breath in, turning around, âi heard some students talking about the questions as well. sounds like theyâre doing it to everyone. i suppose i can see why professors would be included. but most of us professors, weâve been here years longer than these killings. wouldnât they think if it was one of us, we wouldâve snapped sooner?â
Wesley usually spent a lot of time in the professorsâ lounge, though he was less fond of doing it of late. It was hard to not have your opinion of a place permanently altered by itâs connection to the kind of death of the kind Cindy had suffered. Perhaps with time it would change, but after only two months had gone by Wesley still very much associated the two. He still came here when he wanted to eat his lunch, in some ways he preferred it when it was quiet like this, in other ways it was creepy. Creepy or not, with three hours of lectures back-to-back he needed some time away from students right now.
He gave her an apologetic look as he noticed he was in the way, âSorry.â he shuffled to the left, âI got the impression they were too, still, it was a wee bit unnerving, hm? Iâm glad they seem to finally be taking this seriously, though, thirteen deaths and only now...â he trailed off, going to take a sip from his coffee before realising it was still going to be piping hot and thinking better of it, âYeah, you would think there would be something suspect in the past twenty years. But I suppose theyâre just covering all bases. They clearly donât have anyone in mind. not yet anyway.â it unnerved him more than anything how long it was taking this time. With the original killer, theyâd caught him so much sooner.
