i just want to say it’s lowkey hypocritical of Gavin McKenna to speak up on multiple things, like the Residentual schools and what has happened to Indigenous people and then follow people like Kai Trump or hang out with the Nelk boys, sadly enough the same things that happened to Indigenous people are happening all around America right now, because of *ce. the camps that the people are taken too are doing the same things that the american settlers did to Indigenous people, i feel like if your going to use your platform to speak out again racism and to speak up for your culture, you shouldn’t support the very thing that happened to your people just because it’s someone else. McKenna is an amazing player but that doesn’t justify anything. i’m not saying i didn’t know most hockey players are conservative and that’s not what shocked me. i’m speaking about how he’s being a damn near hypocrite

To me it comes down to extreme, unhealthy parasocialism. To each their own I guess, but tinhatting never goes down well lmfao especially in growing and expanding fandoms. It often leads to harassment, and damages the actual relationship of the two people (Larry immediately comes to mind). We've already seen some hints of this weirdness with Willmack, think of the weird elevator girl who stalked Sharks players to their hotel to meet up with Willmack, ran into an elevator with them and then wrote and posted an entire page in their notes app about why they're definitely fucking. I think this post sums up some of those points. Something to think about.

Ok so maybe I am just misunderstanding the nuances of the actual word “tinhatting”. Perhaps parasocialism is an inherent part of it. In which case, I guess I’m more of just an rpfer who believes that some of it might be true…? Or maybe I just want it to be true. But also, if they both ended up in relationships with different people and were happy, I would totally support it. Or if they came out and said “we are not in a relationship together, and would everyone please stop shipping us, it’s having a negative impact on our friendship” I would be a little sad, ngl, but I would stop.
And just to be clear, I am in no way supporting psychotic fans that do not respect the boys privacy or personal lives.
