Most of my artistic decisions are made purely based on aesthetics honestly. I love taking into account design principles like contrast or whatever.
Like, Squires’ design uses a lot of contrast, specifically between his dark hair and clothes and his pale skin and eyes. This can give him a visual edge that fits with his personality. Sort of like how animals show venomousness in nature I guess? Like tiger fish or whatever? Don’t quote me on that…
This is different from Convex, whose design is pretty lacking in contrast. I tried to also show this in his human design by making his skin and hair both pretty similar shades of brown ☝🏻 also gave him warm undertones rather than cool ones because I think warm undertones just suit his character and general aesthetic better.
But yeah. Iceberg? The contrast between greyish blue and a vibrant orange. Most of the orange is in his scarring. You could say there’s some symbolism there 👀☝🏻 eyebrow wiggle. I’ll let u guys think ab it.
Glass? Lowk he’s just so mourning dove coded to me. I had to include some mourning dove colouring☝🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 he’s very beige in colouration, which usually signifies a character falls into the ordinary to boring range, but since his beige’s way warmer, it gives off more of a comfortable sense of familiarity.
My clef design is pretty close to most people’s interpretations honestly? I don’t like giving him TOO animalistic traits because I personally think Meri got her deer traits from her mom ☝🏻 but when I do associate Clef with animals he’s more of a snake/goat to me (love me some devil symbolism). Other than that his design is prettyyyy basic.
