It would all be too simple once she arrived in the past. All she had to do was get rid of the pesky Princess Eva, who had destroyed Cora’s chances at being Queen. If Eva never revealed Cora’s secret pregnancy to King Leopold, their marriage would go forth as planned and Zelena would grow up as royalty, just as she always should have.  

Regina lifted her hand to stop her, but it was too late. Zelena threw Rumplestilskin’s dagger to the floor and jumped into the portal as Rumplestiltskin made a last moment effort to grab at her.  

The portal closed and then everything went black.

Back in Storybrooke, Belle fidgeted behind the counter of the pawnshop. She had several books open in front of her and a handful of magical items. She was desperately searching for anything that could help stop Zelena. She’d run back to the pawnshop after Zelena had stolen the Charming’s baby for her spell and the others had raced off after her. 

She prayed that Regina and the Charmings would be able to defeat Zelena and free Rumple, who Zelena was still controlling with his dagger. But if Zelena succeeded in casting her time travel spell, there was little any of them could do to stop her from changing the past. Belle flipped through the pages of a book that described the history and magic of Oz. 

Ever since they had come back to Storybrooke, missing a year out of their lives, Belle had been meticulously going through and cataloging the items in Rumple’s shop. His own inventory system consisted of one cabinet of paper files that she knew could hardly cover a third of the items in the store. And even the ones he had written down could best be described as vague or right down cryptic.

Once she had realized what Zelena was up to, she had turned her focus to searching through these items for anything that might help against the witch. Once it was obvious that Rumple kept his more “specialized” items off the books, she began researching unique items in his many books.

Among the items that Rumple had kept locked in his cabinets, she had found a decorated box full of antique jewelry. A necklace on a silver chain had caught her eye. When she had picked it up to examine it, she had realized why it looked so familiar. It was cut into the same octagonal shape as Zelena’s necklace, except that the stone was white crystal instead of green.

Belle had set to researching the stone. The only references she could find came from the book she had found about Oz. It was one of four matching pendants, each belonging to a different witch who watched over an area of Oz. Supposedly, the pendants helped them to harness, protect, and grow their magic. 

Unfortunately, that’s all she could find out. Whether the pendant could help them fight Zelena was unclear. Still, its similarity to Zelena’s necklace seemed promising. 

Belle slipped it over her head and tucked it under her blouse, vowing to keep it close. If she could show it to Regina, or perhaps even Rumple, maybe it could help them. 

A loud bang on the door brought Belle’s attention out of her book. She looked up towards the shop door as it flew open. A shockwave of magic hurtled through the shop, encompassing the room.

It hit her with startling force, knocking the wind out of her. 

Then, there was only darkness.
