I see potential here. If you don’t mind, I’d like to expand here.

Jimmy is far more humane than Hermese. Hermese is just alive. He doesn’t speak verbal, instead using signs. He doesn’t move without help from others. He is alive and can feel emotions, but he’s not very mobile or verbal so he’s still very much like an armour stand despite all the glamour spells.

Jimmy, on the other hand, can speak, feel, move, hurt and much more. And yet he is treated as less than human while Hermes is treated as a pure human.

As an angst person, I see angst on both sides.

Jimmy can’t stand to be near hermese because everyone treats Hermes as a human infront of him and then turns around to him and treats him as a toy. He’s jealous and sad and angry that this happens and when he speaks up or shows disdain for this, everyone blames him for being mean to Hermes. Its a conflict he can’t fix.

Meanwhile, as you mentioned in your tags, Hermes sees people treat him so kindly and generously and humanly, even though he knows he’s not very human. But then he sees how hurt the sheriff is and how mean they are too him and wonders, ‘am I being lied to? Do they not care and are just being nice because I’m a kid?’ And gets really sad because he feels the love is fake and he will be abandoned when he gets older.

Jimmy doesn’t really know that Hermes is upset about how he’s being treated but can tell he isn’t happy with Joel, and Hermes can see the sheriff is hurt by the way he is treated but can’t do anything about it. It’s just something they can’t fix.
