          yamato feels like he has a sixth sense for when adorable little ninja children are about to have a meltdown in public – maybe it’s because, no matter who they are, they have a certain similarities to small house cats. angry, prideful little killers. anyway, when he feels mitsuki start to bristle beside him in the market stall, it’s almost an afterthought to settle a hand on his shoulder and steer him away, still looking for the right kind of squash. 

               ‘whatever you’re doing, stop.’     a moment of silence, and then, a little more kindly,     ‘do you remember if the recipe called for butternut, or acorn squash.’

           “ i’m not doing anything. ” 

     he pouts a little, fingers curling into the wide sleeves of his outfit as he pushes himself closer to yamato’s side. he wasn’t doing anything, truthfully, but people kept staring at him and anyone would be upset about it. normally it didn’t bother him, but anko-sensei also tended to keep him distracted and also not in public long enough to be bothered. . .yamato was making an attempt at it. the way he lowered his voice almost makes mitsuki laugh.

“eh? mitsuki-kun?” she turns to face him, her hands holding out a bag of chips, “they’re chili-flavored. would you like one?” they were the last bag on the shelf, and chouchou, with the bleeding heart she claims not to have, couldn’t leave them alone. “they deserve to be eaten, and what better way then to eat them with friends?” 

if they pull some secret ‘mitsuki is bad / his friends mistake him as a bad guy’ shit im gonna shit a brick

       “ kaa-chan doesn’t make speghetti often so i don’t eat it much anyway. ” his eyes watched as the boy pulled his arms back into his body. “ i was watching chouchou eat and i was thinking about how gross it is and so it made me think about how gross it is when your body looks like one of tou-chan’s melted ink birds. ”

       “ mitsuki, ” he mutters, gleeful tone with his usual smile he learned from his father. “ when you stretch your body like that you look like a plate of spaghetti. ”
