His designated mate is Tulee'pa of the Metkayina clan. From the age of 15, the two are bound.
Tulee'pa possesses a deep, simmering hatred for Neteyam. This animosity is fueled by two primary factors:

At 19, Tulee'pa becomes pregnant. She immediately directs all her blame and resentment towards Neteyam. Initially, she felt only embarrassment for having birthed this "thing." But upon realizing the unique spiritual significance and the power this might convey, jealousy and a desire for control overwhelm her.
Tulee'pa immediately blames Neteyam for having a "freak" of a daughter but then decides that the "gift" should be hers to command. She forces herself back into Tsa'lavantula's life, not out of maternal love, but with the specific, chilling intent to manipulate, control, and ultimately inflict cruelty on both her daughter and Neteyam.
