- So what actually happens is a subtle shift in the dance you two have. He compromises without Eijiās pushing and mentally folds you into his considerations of HEAVENSā future. You respond in kind by asking for his input on certain things. The blow-out arguments mellow into bickering at best and when you stay over at the HEAVENS mansion, up into the small hours of the night, poring over documents and scheduling and contracts to the point of trance, youāre invariably snapped out of it by a mug of coffee set pointedly at your elbow. Eye contact and a single nod is all the interaction that comes of this usually, but after the second or so time you shift slightly in your designated seat at the kitchen island and tilt your head in such a way that says ācome here and look at thisā.
- āComing hereā requires him to cross the kitchen and ālooking at thisā requires him to bend down so his head is roughly level with yours. Usually this wouldnāt make his pulse pick upāafter allāthe two of you invade the otherās personal space with reckless abandon for far lesser reasons and usually with a smirk, but since his 'realisationā heās become uncharacteristically respectful of a safe distance and youāve seemingly not noticed.

- To his credit, the tensing in his shoulders is fleeting and he reciprocates the gesture as per usual, his arm loosely around your waist as he reads the contract and tries to not start reading into body language instead. After all, nothingās changed. Heās certain of it.
- When all is sorted and done, however, your lips press a fleeting kiss to his cheek and suddenly heās aware that everythingās changed ever since you threw yourself into the line of fire with his Father before he could. But itās notā¦.for the worse.
