PLEASE FOR THE SAKE OF THE PEOPLE OF THE INTERNET, PLEASE LISTEN!
tomorrow, our representatives are going to vote on KOSA. For those of you that aren’t aware of what this is, KOSA is the kids online safety act that if passed, you will have to provide an id just to be on the internet, but unfortunately, that’s not all.
It seems like a “good” idea to keep minors safe while on the internet, but what it actually does is remove the ability to use the internet anonymously, remove our freedom of expression on the internet, and using the internet without having to reveal any personal information.
The media will be heavily censoring many things, including the horrible things that are happening around us. Some examples are topics related to ice, lgbtqia+, and other things that the government might find “unpleasing”.
Many platforms are going to have to add age verification, one form of this is through the form of id. This will also be difficult for people that struggle/don’t have accurate government ids, so people that are trans, undocumented people, and many more will be affected.
Oh, and did I mention that big tech companies are gonna have OUR government ids, OUR sensitive data, and whatever we do online is always going to be attached to our faces, government names, our addresses. being anonymous online will potentially no longer be accessible to us and. We’re essentially going to be surveillanced by the government with everything we do online.
