This hadnāt been a competition. They werenāt at war with each other. If anything, Liora wanted them to be soldiers on the same side of the battle, the two of them against the world if that was the way it had to be, but the little thrill of victory when Remy acquiesced to her request to talk was undeniable. Liora liked to be good at things. Good at business, good at marriage. In so many ways, the two went hand in hand, especially with Remy.
āThank you,ā she answered pleasantly as Remy invited her to sit. She did so, looking her future wife over with subtlety. In her workout clothes, Liora could see the majority of Remyās frame. She was slight, but you couldnāt call her vulnerable. She had the lean and sinewy look of someone who was both agile and tough. Even her face wasnāt soft or dainty. She was undeniably beautiful, but she looked like she spent a lot of time frowning. Liora had come to talk business but sheād have been lying if she said her mind didnāt wander a little as she got a proper look at the woman in front of her. At least her father had chosen someone she was attracted to, and she felt a little tingle in her stomach when Remy told her she had her full attention. āWell, thatās a good start to a marriage,ā she answered, a small glimmering smile that could be perhaps taken for flirtation, or perhaps not.
āItās always interesting when the first question your fiancee asks about your future together is whether you can defend yourself or not.ā She gave a small chuckle. āHopefully itās not you Iāll be defending myself from.ā Her words came across as joking, but she was laying the groundwork. She wanted Remy to know that delicate as she might be in some ways, she was no doormat, and she wouldnāt be in a relationship - even a business one - with someone who mistreated her. āI have basic self-defense and firearms training,ā she answered, more seriously this time. āBut please, feel free to show me more. Now Iām going to throw you a curveball.ā She paused, just for a moment. āDo you want children?ā
Remyās lips twitched into a half smile; a sight that not many people saw often. āWell, I am far from uninteresting. So you should expect the unexpected from me at all times. I am rarely ever boring and I rarely ever do anything by the book. I do things as I want and that is that,ā Remy replied, her expression going back to its neutral state. Though she and Liora had not been speaking long, so far she enjoyed their conversation and the way that Liora carried herself. Though she looked fragile like a mouse, Liora was strong and apparently could carry her own, something that Remy admired in women. Especially, when those women were her women - or rather, her wife. While she still wasnāt sure if she was happy with the idea of an arranged marriage, she was at least okay with the idea of marrying a woman like Liora.
āGood. I would have no problem teaching you more. I think it would be a great way for us to get to know one another. Bond. ā Remy moved her hand and rested her chin in it, her cat-like eyes searching Lioraās for any sign of fear and intimidation as she spoke to her. She picked up on nothing except Lioraās confident body language, but she kept watch of her, highly appreciative of her bravery. Ā
The topic of children was a surprise to her, yet something she expected. While she didnāt have time for children, she knew that she would need an heir to inherit her familyās empire someday. It was something that would need to happen. āI donāt want one any time soon, but I will need a child in the future. I will not be having the child, however. The child would either have to be carried by you, or weād have to adopt.ā She said the words swiftly, in one quick sweep. āDo you not want children?ā Her eyebrow perched as she looked Liora directly in the eyes, curious to see if she was full of another surprise, and was perhaps, not a woman with a maternal instinct.

keiynan-lonsdaleā:
People loved ghost stories. Even if they didnāt believe, like Fitz claimed not to, they still were fascinated by the stories. Fitz was one of the biggest skeptics Brett had ever met, which was why the two of them were constantly teasing each other, but it all came from a place of affection and good fun. They wouldnāt have kept doing this if they didnāt enjoy it.
Brett always stopped for gas and snacks for the road before they left town, just another part of his ritual. Together, the two of them had travelled all over the country together. āWeāre going to Arkansas,ā Brett answered, piling a sugar free energy drink and some oreos into the little basket heād picked up at the door. āDid you ever hear about a place called the Crescent Hotel?ā
Fitz usually wore a blank expression on his face around this point, having never delved into ghost stories and their histories the way Brett had. He was always excited to learn, but he didnāt know most of the old stories. āOkay, so it was bought by a guy called Norman G. Baker in the 1930s, some millionaire who pretended to be a doctor when he wasnāt one, and used to lure people there to cure cancer.ā There was much more to the story, of course, but he liked to get Fitz on the hook first. He gave a small āyou know you love me and these storiesā kinda smile while he plucked some beef jerky off the shelf.
Fitz grabbed one of those cold frozen coffees that tasted more like caramel taffy than actual coffee and placed it in their basket. His favorite part of trips like this, even though he never would admit it, was hearing Brett tell him stories about the places they were going to visit. Most of the stories were bullshit, sure. But no matter how bullshit they were, there was usually some truth to them and they were usually interesting stories.
As he walked through the brightly lit store, he wasnāt surprised to hear that this story was interesting, too. āThat sounds insane. Back in those days everyone could get away with anything, and people would believe anything,ā he replied back, his expression colored with amusement, lips quirked up in a grin. āLike, this is the fourth time youāve told me a story where some loony toon pretended to be a doctor and ...people died because of it.ā
His nose crinkled before he placed a bag of Cheetos in the basket, and then he scanned the small area of chips to see if he wanted anything else. He didnāt so he looked back at Brett and raised his eyebrows. āWhat else...like you stopped...and you know I hate when you do that,ā he teased, elbowing his friend softly. Ā
