ET caught up with the 'You' star at EW's 2018 Pre-Emmy bash, where she also says what she thinks will happen with the 'Emison' twins.
Pretty Little Liars fans, rejoice!
While we're still waiting to see if any former PLL stars will make cameos in the highly anticipated spinoff, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, the cast is planning to reunite to watch the premiere episode.
Shay Mitchell told ET the exciting news when we caught up with her at Entertainment Weekly's pre-Emmy bash on Saturday.
"I can't wait to see the pilot episode of it! I'm so excited, we're all gonna get together and watch it together," she revealed.
When asked if she meant the "whole cast" she said, "Yes! We are gonna aim for that, as many people as we can gather together in L.A., we are gonna try and get together."
But... womp womp. Â She says not to expect any "Emison" in the pilot episode but didn't totally rule out an appearance in future episodes.
"You know, you never know. Not planned as of now, you never know!" she teased.
But c'mon, what about Emily and Ali's twins? Well, Mitchell had an answer for that, too. Â
"Oh my gosh, I can only imagine [what is going to happen to the twins], but you know what, it's in really, really great hands with those writers, so it's gonna be good whatever it is."
The 31-year-old star is currently focused on her Lifetime series, You. Â We're just two episodes in, but Mitchell promises it's only going to get darker.
"You know, on a roller coaster when you just start off, this is the beginning, you just buckled your seat belts, so get ready!" she exclaimed.

Lucy Hale shared her feelings with 'Us Weekly' about âPretty Little Liarsâ costar Troian Bellisarioâs pregnancy on Friday, August 10 â details
Aunty Aria? Lucy Hale reacted to Pretty Little Liarâs costar Troian Bellisarioâs pregnancy while attending an event in Luques, West Hollywood.
âI think weâve all known for a bit,â Hale, who was being announced as the next ambassador for St. Judeâs Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, revealed exclusively to Us Weekly on Friday, August 10. âIâm really happy for her.â
The Life Sentence alum, 29, says that she, Bellisario, Shay Mitchell, Ashley Benson and Sasha Pieterse donât have a group text chain, but they do stay in touch individually. âItâs been a while since all really caught up with each other, like we kind of all talk one on one ⌠We all need a catch up real soon though because weâve all gone in a million different directions,â she admitted.
She noted that the girls would have plenty to celebrate when they did finally reunite, with Janel Parrish and Pieterse both having tied the knot since the showâs end in June 2017. âThings have changed, so it will be nice to see everyone,â she told Us.
Donât hold your breath for a full PLL reunion just yet, however: âI have a feeling we wonât all see each other for a while,â Hale said.
There is, however, hope for a mini get-together. âYou know, I canât say yes or no,â the âYou Sound Good to Meâ singer hinted of a potential appearance on The Perfectionists, the PLL spinoff starring Parrish and Pieterse thatâs set to air in 2019. âI know that Ashley is directing I think and Troian is directing, weâll see. I donât know. Iâm happy. Iâm thrilled for all of them.â
Us confirmed on Monday, August 6, that Bellisario and husband Patrick J. Adams were expecting their first child.
The couple got married with a glamping-themed wedding in December 2016 after seven years together.

"A" and all of its entities might be gone according to the canon of Freeform's Pretty Little Liars, but with the premiere of the spinoff series The Perfectionists in 2019, anything could happen in the show's new timeline. Although Pretty Little Liars' Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish are reprising their original roles in The Perfectionists, the slate is still clean for a brand new world of murderous twists with intriguing characters. The show's writers have officially started work on its first season, and "A'"s message for The Perfectionists writers will still make you shiver like it's the early days of Pretty Little Liars.
Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists is based on The Perfectionists book series, which Pretty Little Liars author Sara Shepard also wrote. The series follows the residents of the town Beacon Heights, which presents such a strong facade of perfection that the town's first murder soon occurs as a result of the pressure its locals face. As Freeform wrote in its press release about the series, "behind every Perfectionist is a secret, a lie, and a needed alibi." If your life just hasn't been the same since Pretty Little Liars wrapped last summer, it sounds like The Perfectionists is, well, a perfect solution to your thirst for twisty teen dramas.
I. Marlene King, who developed and executive produced Pretty Little Liars, wrote the pilot for The Perfectionists, but she was apparently working with other writers on the rest of the series when the group received a message from "A." She / they / whatever identity this is isn't letting a new project take off without the influence of A, but it wouldn't be a proper story in the Pretty Little Liars universe without it, right?
King posted a photo of "A'"s message on Instagram, which read:
âHappy First Day #PLLLPerfs Writers. Have Fun Bitches. ~A.â
Suddenly, I'm 15 and shaking over the Pretty Little Liars pilot again. Who knew a single letter could still instill such fear in me years later?Sofia Carson, who previously appeared in the Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants, stars in The Perfectionists, and she also shared King's photo, writing alongside it, "I've lost all chill." Same, girl.
Although the photo mostly seems to just be a nice throwback to what came before, some fans responding to Carson's post are curious about whether the message means something greater. I mean, never put anything past a Freeform teen drama.
No surprise, but Carson and King haven't offered any more hints about future appearances from A or how the series may differ from the original books.Carson stars as Ava, a blogger and coder who has dreams of being a huge name in the fashion industry. She'll work opposite Pieterse's Alison and Parrish's Mona, who was the original A in Pretty Little Liars before things got a little crazy. Additional actors in the cast include Sydney Park, Eli Brown, Kelly Rutherford, and Hayley Erin, who The Hollywood Reporter describes as playing a "mysterious, unnamed role." If we had to find any hints about an A-like villain appearing in The Perfectionists, I think that must be it.King has also posted other updates of The Perfectionists' writing process, including a brief glimpse at the pilot in a photo detailing what sounds like my dream day. Who wouldn't mind some new TV followed by a yummy lunch?
Freeform picked up the new series for a 10-episode season back in May, and seeing as the writers just started working on the rest of the season, we probably still have to wait until behind-the-scenes pics of Perfectionists production leak online. But it seems like King is always up for posting a look into the creation of a TV show, so fingers crossed that we learn more about the series before its premiere. The Perfectionists premieres on Freeform in 2019.
Freeform is breaking up with "Famous in Love," choosing to cancel the series from "Pretty Little Liars" showrunner I. Marlene King after two seasons.
Freeform is breaking up with âFamous in Love,â choosing to cancel the series from âPretty Little Liarsâ showrunner I. Marlene King after two seasons.
âWe are proud to have had the opportunity to air âFamous In Love,'â a spokesperson for Freeform told TheWrap in a statement Friday. âAfter many discussions we have made the difficult decision not to renew the show for a third season. We want to thank our colleagues at Warner Horizon and our incredible producers, writers, cast and crew, especially Marlene King, for their creativity, hard work and dedication.â
The Bella Thorne-led drama aired its season finale on the younger-skewing cable network last month, an episode that will now serve as the series finale.
Rumors of the showâs demise began swirling earlier this week (which Freeform had denied at the time). Thorne herself saw the rumors via Twitter (and SpoilerTV), writing âIf this is how I find out our show is canceled..Iâm going to be so upset. Very hurtful freeform. I woulda liked a phone call maybe.â
Thorne starred on the series as Paige, a college student who rockets to fame after auditioning for a big Hollywood movie. Carter Jenkins, Charlie Depew, Georgie Flores, Niki Koss, Pepi Sonuga, Keith Powers and Perrey Reeves also starred.
King, who served as creator and showrunner on the series, will stay with Freeform with the upcoming âPretty Little Liarsâ spinoff series âThe Perfectionists,â led by âPLLâ alums Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish.
It is part of the networkâs drama slate, which also includes the mermaid drama âSiren,â âMarvelâs Cloak & Dagger,â âThe Bold Type,â the upcoming âThe Fostersâ spinoff âGood Trouble,â as well as the final run of episodes for the YA fantasy series âShadowhunters.â

âI think there are a lot of people who have been intoxicated and taken advantage of,â she said.
Lucy Hale is opening up about her experiences with sexual assault.
âIâve experienced stuff on the small side, but assault is assault,â the âPretty Little Liarsâ star, 29, told Haute Living Los Angeles in an interview released Monday.
âI think there are a lot of people who have been intoxicated and taken advantage of,â she said. âItâs happened to me and people I know. Itâs very common. Luckily, Iâve been unscathed; nothingâs hurt me too badly.â
In January, Hale wrote in since-deleted social media posts, âI never understood sexual assault until tonight. I always sympathized, but I never felt the pain of it until right now. My dignity and pride was broken ⌠I am completely at a loss of words ⌠I feel for anyone that has felt this pain that I feel right now. But I promise. I will not let a moment go by that I donât try to make a difference.â
She previously told People that part of the #MeToo movement is making survivors of sexual misconduct feel less alone.
âI just feel very honored to be around a lot of powerful women that are speaking up about it,â she said. âI think thatâs where the change starts is when people start talking because you never know whoâs listening or whose life you can impact.â
Another TV series will be shooting this fall in Portland, as the Freeform spinoff, "Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists," is scheduled to begin production.
After filming the pilot for "Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists" in the Portland area in March, it's official -- the show will shoot on location in Portland, as executive producer I. Marlene King confirms in an Entertainment Tonight interview. Fans of "Pretty Little Liars" have already been geeking out over the spinoff series, which will air on Freeform and take place three years after the "PLL" finale.
"The Perfectionists" stars "PLL" veterans Sasha Pieterse, who reprises her role as Alison, and Janel Parrish, who again plays Mona. In case you're not up on your "PLL" lore, here's how Freeform describes those two:
"In 'Pretty Little Liars,' Pieterse played Alison DiLaurentis, the former queen bee whose mysterious disappearance rocked the small town of Rosewood. Parrish played Mona Vanderwaal, Hanna Marin's best friend, who was unmasked as the mysterious tormentor 'A' at the end of the show's second season, and ultimately beat uber-villain, A.D., at her own game."
So dramatic! And so effective, since Freeform also notes that during its seven seasons, "PLL" ranked as "cable TV's No. 1 drama across target 18-34 and 12-34 measures during its final season, winning its time period in each of its 160 originals in the key demographics."
"Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists" is based on a book series by Sara Shepard, whose works also inspired the original "PLL." Here's the premise for "The Perfectionists," from the Freeform press release:
"Everything about the town of Beacon Heights seems perfect, from their top-tier college to their overachieving residents. But nothing in Beacon Heights is as it appears to be. The stress of needing to be perfect leads to the town's first murder. Behind every Perfectionist is a secret, a lie and a needed alibi."
The pilot filmed in Portland and Forest Grove in March. The cast also includes Sofia Carson ("Descendants").
"The Perfectionists" will start production in September, and the cast will begin filming in October. The series is scheduled to air in June 2019.
When Pretty Little Liars came to an end last June, fans had some (OK, a lot of) questions about the show's finale. While we may never get all the answers about Bethany Young, those creepy masks, and the N.A.T. Club, the upcoming PLL spinoff will thankfully solve at least one major mystery about the original series' conclusion.
According to I. Marlene King, The Perfectionists (which is set to make its Freeform debut in 2019) will finally address Mona's mysterious dollhouse that we saw in the PLL finale last year. In case you need a refresher, the two-hour finale ended with a Parisian scene, revealing that Mona was holding Alex and Mary Drake hostage in a life-sized dollhouse. In conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Marlene explained that viewers will finally learn more about Alex and Mary's fate â "in a very cheeky Mona way."
Marlene also revealed that the new series will include a relationship for Mona. "I think it's her turn," she explained, "as an actress and as a character, for us to have a lot more time to spend with her and really get to know Mona better than we already do." It remains to be seen whether or not Mona's new beau will be that French guy from the PLL finale â or someone new entirely. (Personally, I'm holding out hope that she and Mike will rekindle their relationship â anyone else?)
These aren't the only tidbits that Marlene has revealed recently. A few weeks ago, the showrunner explained how The Perfectionistswould address Ali and Emily's relationship, noting that "my challenge...as the creator of this new show, was to honor Emison's relationship and continue to honor it as we launch this new story." Given that Marlene loves to share secrets and clues with her fans, we can bet that there will be more exciting details ahead to tide us over until The Perfectionists premieres next year.
Recent pictures of the actress are leading to pregnancy rumors.
After attending Meghan Markle and Prince Harryâs wedding with her husband, Patrick J. Adams, Troian Bellisario experienced a bout of body-shaming when a woman at an airport said that she and her husband looked âchunkyâ in their royal wedding pictures. Now, the 32-year-old actress is being body-shamed againâthis time, by fans who are accusing her of looking pregnant.
In late May, a week after the royal wedding, the âPretty Little Liarsâ star and her husband continued their time in Europe with a mini vacation in Mykonos, Greece. Paparazzi pictures from the vacation show Bellisario and Adams splashing in the ocean, holding hands on the beach, and enjoying long walks on the sand. For some fans, the pictures were also a sure-fire clue that Bellisario is pregnant.
After the photos came out, Bellisarioâs Twitter mentions were flooded by fans who speculate that sheâs pregnant. Many fans pointed out Bellisarioâs body in her black one-piece swimsuit, which they believe showed a not-yet-confirmed baby bump.
As happy as we would be if Bellisario is actually pregnant, fans are missing one huge detail: Bellisario hasnât confirmed anything. As many fans have noted, assuming that someone is pregnant before theyâve confirmed it is essentially body-shaming. âWhen I thought Americans are mostly civilized people but then I came to this. Body shaming at its best. You guys are so low,â one fan commented.
âRiverdaleâ actress Lili Reinhart recently called out body-shamers who assumed that she was pregnant because she was bloated and recently gained weight. Peopleâs weight and bodies speculateâthat doesnât mean that theyâre pregnant. Likewise, if Bellisario is pregnant, thatâs her business and her business alone. Until she confirms it, itâs best to stop speculating. So fans, please stop talking about her body.
The "Riverdale" casting rumours are BACK and this time... they're juicy as hell!
Now that season three of Riverdale is almost within reaching distance, it's time to start speculating about theories, storylines, characters and new cast members.
A few weeks ago, a rumour about a PLL actor joining the cast of Riverdale made the rounds on Twitter and of course, despite being a r u m o u r, the fandom immediately started speculating over who in the cast could realistically join the Riverdale squad.
Everyone jumped at the assumption that it was going to be known stan of the show, Lucy Hale but she shut down that rumour pretty quickly.
So, if it's not Lucy Hale, who could it be? Well, there's two Jones family members that are already guaranteed to show up in season three and, as far as we know, haven't been cast yet. One of those family members? Jughead's mum, obviously. (She goes by Gladys in the Archie comics but hasn't been mentioned by name in the show yet.)
With that in mind, fans started speculating that Charmed legend Holly Marie Combs, who also played Aria's mum Ella Montgomery in PLL could be joining the cast as FP's estranged wife Gladys. Why her? Well, it all boils down to the fact that she's been liking a bunch of tweets about the role...
Uhhhh, Piper Halliwell as Jughead's mum? YES. ABSOLUTELY YES. SIGN US UP. WE'RE ONBOARD.
Of course, it's just speculation at the moment and a liked tweet doesn't mean anythingbut what's a bit of speculation between friends, Riverdale conspirators and HMC, right?
It's not the first time a Pretty Little Liars actor has been linked with Riverdale either. Fans previously thought Lucy Hale was joining Riverdale after one Instagram conversation with Madelaine Petsch was taken the wrong way. And when the news broke that Betty's brother Chic would be joining the cast, fans had a few PLL actors in mind for that role too. Drew Van Acker and Tyler Blackburn were both strongly favoured for the role amongst the fandom but as we all know, neither of them were cast.
So, whaddya think? Would Holly Marie Combs make the perfect addition to the Jones family, or are you still holding out hope for Skeet Ulrich's Scream co-star Neve Campbell? Guess we'll just have to sit tight and wait until season three to see what happens.

Before Alison can begin her new life in Oregon on Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, she needs to say goodbye to her old one in Rosewood.
Before Alison can begin her new life in Oregon on Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, she needs to say goodbye to her old one in Rosewood.
Freeformâs upcoming spinoff (premiere date TBD) finds Sasha Pieterseâs character relocating to the mysterious city of Beacon Heights, prompting fans of the parent series to wonder what becomes of Emily Fields (played by Shay Mitchell) and their twin daughters we met in the Pretty Little Liars finale.
Fortunately, executive producer Marlene King promises that â unlike the identities of âA,â âA.D.,â etc. â fans wonât have to wait for an answer to this particular question.
âYou learn in the pilot why Alison is there, and whatâs going on with her and Emily,â King tells TVLine, adding that weâll also learn âwhy Mona left her doll shop in France.â (#NeverForget that PLL ended with Mona keeping Alex and Mary Drake as living dolls in a French prison of her own design. That girl is twisted.)
When it came to bridging the story gap between PLL and The Perfectionists, King says it was much easier charting Monaâs path than Alisonâs: âWe left her very happy with Emily and the twins, so to justify why she would leave that behind to come to Beacon Heights was worthy of much more conversation.â
For what itâs worth, hereâs what Shay Mitchell told TVLine last year when we asked about her potential involvement in the spinoff:
âItâs just difficult with all of our schedules right now. At the end of the day, regardless of whether Iâm on it or not, I will 100 percent support the show and be a fan of it myself. But weâre all just doing so many different things right now, so itâs hard to commit to something like that.â
â
And if youâre wondering why The Perfectionistsâ trailer included nary a single shot of someone reading a menacing text on a cell phone, King says thatâs one of the things that separates the spinoff from the original.
âThat doesnât come right away,â she explains. âThatâs not a facet of the show immediately.â
On Sunday, the Pretty Little Liars alum married fiancĂŠ Hudson Sheaffer in a romantic ceremony at the Leslie Estate, a castle in Glaslough, Ireland, PEOPLE confirms.
For her fairytale nuptials, the bride donned a custom Christian Siriano gown, necklace from XIV Karats and Zadig & Voltaire bracelets.
Pieterse, 22, and Scheaffer, 28, got engaged in December 2015.
The Perfectionists star has been open about how her now-husband lifted her up during the most challenging period of her life: when she gained nearly 70 lbs. over two years due to a hormone condition called Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
âHeâs incredible,â she told PEOPLE while competing on Dancing with the Stars in October 2017. âIâve known him for so long, and itâs so incredible having someone like that supporting you and knowing without a doubt that they are going to be there no matter what happens.â
âIt really, truly is reciprocated and what we originated our relationship on was honesty, commitment, being loyal, being supportive, making sure that the communication is open enough and obviously love,â she added. âI think itâs incredible that I have all of that in him, and Iâm excited to start our life together.â
The internet has been packed full of conspiracy theories...
Lucy Hale has had her say on those internet rumours that she could be being lined up to star on the next series of Riverdale.
The former Pretty Little Liars actor has essentially destroyed all our hopes and dreams by coming forward to confirm that there is no truth to the speculation but did insist that she happens to be a huge fan of the CW show.
Shutting down the theories that she could be wandering the corridors of Riverdale High and/or becoming BFFs with Cheryl Blossom, the 28-year-old took to Twitter to write: "Also, thereâs a rumor Iâm joining Riverdale. Not true. Love the show, but not true."
This comes after reports that her own show, which told the story of a young woman cured of terminal cancer, wasnât renewed for a second series â with Lucy opening up about how disappointed she was to hear that Life Sentence hadnât been recommissioned.
âI was emotionally attached to this story and to everyone involved so I'm a little shell shocked right now, but I feel fortunate that we got to tell a really beautiful story," she said.
The silver lining in all this is that thereâs still a good chance she could make an appearance in the Pretty Little Liars spinoff, The Perfectionists: "I know they just did the pilot, and I'm sure it'll go to series,â she told Bustle. âIf they do, I don't know, it kind of depends if my show goes another season.â
Maybe she had some help from âAâ to score an invite.
Saturdayâs wedding between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry is bringing together Hollywood and the royal family in a major way. Celebs like Priyanka Chopra, Victoria Beckham, and Angelina Jolie are rumored to be attending, while A-listers like Ellen DeGeneres are publicly (but jokingly) lamenting that they havenât received an invite.
While DeGeneres wonât be in attendance on Saturday, thereâs another recognizable face that we can confirm will be in the crowd. Pretty Little Liarsâ Troian Bellisario (aka Spencer Hastings) managed to score an âinâ with the royal family, and itâs likely because of her own marriage.
Bellisario is married to Patrick J. Adams, who played Markleâs on-screen husband on Suits. Thatâs right: A PLL star and Markle have lip locked with the same dudeâthough Markleâs relationship with Adams was purely professional.Â
The future royal seems to have invited many of her former co-stars to the wedding, as Suits stars Gina Torres, Sarah Rafferty, and Rick Hoffman all confirmed that theyâll be in attendance on Saturday.Â
Adams seems to have done the same with a few Instagram posts from London, confirming that heâs in fact in the U.K. On Thursday, he shared two photos from The Royal Standard of England, a bar thatâs over 900 years old, where Adams and Bellisario celebrated a friendâs 18th birthday. The PLL star also shared a photo from the tavern, exclaiming that it was âjust like Hogwarts.â
Weâll be looking out for what she wears to the big day tomorrow. If sheâs anything like Spencer in real life, we can expect a few ruffles or bows to make their way onto her dress.
'The Perfectionists' is from showrunner I. Marlene King and stars Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish, who will reprise their roles from the flagship drama.
As expected, Freeform is moving forward with its Pretty Little Liars spinoff.
The younger-skewing Disney-owned cable network has handed out a 10-episode series order for Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. The series is expected to debut in 2019. With the order, Freeform now has three spinoffs on its roster, including Grown-ish and its offshoot of The Fosters.
Based on Sara Shepard's book The Perfectionists, the drama was first put into development at Freeform in November 2014 as an unrelated series. After Freeform wrapped Pretty Little Liars after seven seasons, the idea then became to merge The Perfectionists with the world of the flagship â with the latter also having been based on a different Shepard book.
PLL: The Perfectionists is set in Beacon Heights, a seemingly perfect town, and revolves around a group of three college friends who struggle with the stress of being overachievers. In the aftermath of the townâs first murder, each Perfectionist hides behind a secret, a lie and an alibi. (Check out first-look photos from the series, above and below.)
Reprising their roles are Sasha Pieterse,asAlison DiLaurentis, the former queen bee whose mysterious disappearance rocked the small town of Rosewood; and Janel Parrish, as Mona Vanderwaal, Hanna Marin's best friend who was unmasked as the mysterious tormentor "A" at the end of the showâs second season and ultimately beat uber-villain A.D. at her own game. Sofia Carson, Sydney Park, Eli Brown, Graeme Thomas King, Kelly Rutherford and Hayley Erin round out the cast.
Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists is being produced by Alloy Entertainment and Long Lake Media in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television. PLL showrunner I. Marlene King, who also has Famous in Love at Freeform, penned the pilot and serves as executive producer and reunites with PLL's Charlie Craig, Lisa Cochran-Neilan, Alloy's Leslie Morgenstein (Pretty Little Liars) and Gina Girolamo (The 100) on the spinoff. Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum directed the pilot.
The decision to find a way to continue the franchise with PLL: The Perfectionists comes after the flagship became Freeform's signature hit and ranked as cable's No. 1 drama among viewers 18-34 and 12-34 during its final season. That Freeform would connect The Perfectionists to the Pretty Little Liars brand is a savvy move that will automatically bring in an established audience and help cut through the cluttered landscape. This is the second spinoff to come out of Pretty Little Liars. The first, Ravenswood, was canceled after one season.
PLL: The Perfectionists joins a roster of scripted originals at Freeform that also includes Black-ish spinoff Grown-ish; King's Famous in Love, Marvel's Cloak and Dagger, Shadowhunters, Alone Together, The Bold Type, Siren and The Fosters, with the cabler also recently handing out 13-episode, straight-to-series order for a spinoff of The Fosters.

Keegan Allen has been interested in photography since before he hit double digits. He began taking pictures when he was nine years old, and he still shoots with the camera his father gave him back then â though his collection has expanded significantly.
Now, the actor is on a book tour for his new book Hollywood, which features his original photography along with personal captions, lyrics and more. When Allen originally set out to capture Hollywood, he was shooting pictures of his home.
âAs a photographer, as a young photographer, I wanted to bring the truth, protect the place where I grew up and also expose the beautiful and sometimes very dark elements of Hollywood as well,â Allen told uInterview exclusively. âAll over the world, people look at Hollywood as this place that is an idea of the dream, a chase, a place of great triumphs and successes, but also where dreams come true, dreams are shattered â everything. It really is the central point of sometimes media and creating iconic Hollywood movies. You know, you think of things that have made you feel certain ways. So it was an interesting journey to set forth on.â
Hollywood shows both the beautiful aspects of the city as well as its seedier side. Allen said the book is both an exposĂŠ in addition to his sort of protection over the city.
âI wanted to show what it truly is,â Allen said. âWe get caught up in the idea of Tinseltown, of the glitz and glamor of it. We see, you know, red carpet events, we see interviews, we see the lights turned on and the makeup and all the stuff, but once you remove all that [you] see the reality and the people that live there.â
Allen said that itâs inspiring to see people who havenât quite had their dreams work out but are still chasing after them. He wanted to capture that and show his version of it.
âNow, is it the be all, end all version? Absolutely not,â Allen said. âThatâs the beauty of it, and as I do these interviews, Iâm starting to learn more about my book through othersâ interpretations of what theyâre seeing. As you start to look at the people â that was the thing that started to come to the surface for me â was as I was shooting the book, that people would come up to the surface and really change how I looked at the world around me now.â
While he sees the book to be a huge picture of Hollywood as a whole, one photo in particular resonates with him â the one on the very back of Hollywood.
âItâs a photo of the sunset â and that actual photo is in the book â towards the end of the book before this Foreverland story,â Allen said. âThatâs always really resonated with me because here we are in the hustle and bustle the jive and the constant hunger for the fame monster or to make it or just to live another day and be seen, no one really looks up and notices how beautiful Los Angeles is.â
Keegan Allen suits up sharp for his appearance on Build Series on Monday (April 23) in New York City.
The former Pretty Little Liars actor is making his rounds, promoting his second photographer book, âHollywoodâ â which hits shelves on Tuesday (April 24).
During his interview, he opened up about what his process is for picking and choosing which pictures get to be in the book.
âShooting film is very different than shooting digital. Thereâs a romance to it,â Keegan says.
