Anne of Green Gables is one of my all time favorite book series and character and I’ve also reached the Auntie stage of my life where I love a candle! I was super geeked up to learn about @frostbeardmpls’s Book Lovers soy candle in Bosom Friend! I have no idea what raspberry cordial smells like but I can’t wait to find out. Hopefully I’ll find my very own Gilbert Blythe to have a candle lit cuddle session with!

The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu is mad stressful but very compelling television. I started watching it around Memorial Day weekend and got all caught up in time to view the season two finale. After listening to the Red All Over podcast (yes, I listened to a podcast about that stressful ass show), I decided to pick up the book. The show doesn’t veer far from the book. After an attack on congress and the president by religious zealots, the American constitution is dissolved and a new nation, Gilead is formed. Like the show, the story is told through Offred, a handmaid who has been forcefully separated from her family and is subjected to some harrowing conditions. I don’t say this often (I think I’ve said it never) but the show is better than the book! The plot is really fleshed out by the actors and the pacing is more enjoyable. Still worth reading if you’re a fan of the show. I’ve started calling #BarbiethePom “Ofdonda”. She doesn’t respond... Swipe left to see her hit me with the blank stare.

Today marks the release of Zora Neal Hurston’s “Barracoon: The Story of the Last “Black Cargo”. Written nearly a century ago, Baracoon tells the true story of Cudjo Lewis, an Alabama man who was believed to be the last living person captured in Africa and brought to America on a slave ship. I wasn’t smart enough to preorder this book, so I swiped this lovely pic form @_ashuhhleee. Read the @vulture review earlier this week and I can’t wait to get my hands on my own copy.
