keira knightley in Pride and Prejudice
She almost felt as if her face had taken a rather rueful expression — though she was indeed sorry to have interrupted, woefulness was not like her and would be avoided under any circumstances — thus, she was quick to flash a smile or maybe two towards the girl. At any case, Elizabeth Bennet seemed like a good girl that the Princess Lady would have liked to befriend. ❝Oh, that’s funny! I am coming from town — I stay in London at the moment but it was about time I visited the delights of the country which did not disappoint, needless to say,❞ she stated lovingly, and her gaze did not roam around as it would have — it rather stayed fixed on Ms. Elizabeth’s big brown eyes that they certainly radiated a certain warmth that happened to be a rarity in the Society she had been thrown into. A bunch of peacocks they all were, beautiful and fascinating and what for had they sent her there, truly? To become a peacock herself? She often thought she was not far from being it. But the country had a refreshing air that the girl enjoyed inhaling and the delights so many they seemed to be, for a moment she was struck by exceptional avidity. It was fascinating but at the same time, it was unsettling also. Such trips always brought a sense of tiresomeness to the young royalty but Septa Eglantine, of course, had considered it of utmost importance and how could the girl simply refuse her anything without meeting her wrath and her endless scolding? ❝I would not have any kind of objection; how could I possibly refuse when Mrs. Bennet had asked me so warmly and kindly. I am eager to meet her, though I am just as delighted to have met one of her daughter but — you see, I would not wish to be a burden of sorts until her return. And I do happen to understand, so pray don’t apologize — a mother must do what a mother must do.❞
—London? How far she must have traveled, though it was doubtful that she did so just for a simple meeting. It was a wonder how her mother had crossed paths with this elegant young lady, she was a woman of nobility, not frequently seen in the countryside. It surprised her, they why she talked so lovingly about the countryside, most of the upper class found it a relief at best but certainly nothing of any value. It was just another holiday location, hardly preferable to the vast energy of the cities.
"It would be that my mother's mind is occupied mainly with my younger sister's whims, in your visits to town you have no doubt noticed that the militia has an encampment there. It is hard for their minds to stray to anything else besides young officers, they are horribly silly really but they are young yet, there minds filled with the prospect of marriage. They seem honorable men enough, much kinder than others I have met. They do make for delightful conversation, hearing about their travels." Elizabeth smiled, her thoughts soon drifted to the young George Wickham who was stationed in Meryton at the moment. He was a proper gentlemen through and through, not a single ill word to his name for no one seemed to think ill of him, except for one. The way at which Mr. Darcy viewed Mr. Wickham only reassured her theories about the prideful man, what he had done to poor Mr. Wickham was a horribly crime of pride, and she refused to see past it.
"It will not be a burden at all I assure you so, my father is currently at home but I fear no one else is at the present. I can only hope that my company will be enough to occupy your time for my father cares little about the affairs my mother has set up. I do not mean to pry, but how did you and my mother come to meet?"
⊰✙∬ A sharp gasp escaped her lips when she heard the voice of the other behind her. The spirit quickly turned around on her heel, soon after hearing the other speak. She didn’t need to wonder if she was in fact talking to her or not, her question and tone of voice made that quite obvious.
— “The meaning of this?… the things out there are the ones to blame.”
With the use of her thumb, she pointed behind her. The dogs outside still could be heard. She stepped away from the door, hoping that that the distance was going to stop them from feeling her presence.
— Elizabeth stared at her, what right did she think she had to enter her home so abruptly and unannounced? She pointed towards the dogs outside and muttered under her breath yet their were no signs of any harm having come to her, Ms. Bennet was rather at a loss of any explanation this stranger could give for her rude intrusion.
" You do not appear to be hurt, thus I can see no reasonable explanation to your blaming of the animals, and no excuse for your behavior. Surely those dogs could not have attacked you."
Oh, forgive him — he’s unfortunately out of practice and out of place. Truth be told he was a lover of dancing, and would’ve been quite good at it had he been more focused in such actions. But he while he will admit to being awkward, he is not entirely uncoordinated! Not really anyway — Flushing, Marius flashes an apologetic smile to the woman he had partnered with. In the frenzy of the party, he didn’t really have much of a choice when he was being thrown everywhere by flirtatious blondes and giggling brunettes ; a few redheads, he was sure, had even pulled him and toyed with his stumbling feet — though not for long, thankfully. “Is speaking while dancing acceptable? Or in this craze is it just an attempt to make the moment less awkward?”
He asks this while letting out a forced laughter, his feet following the steps of those around him ; he’s so terrible at this it’s almost a sin to even laugh at the poor boy ( but still he promises ; he’s much better on a nicer day! )
— Allowing a soft laugh to escape her lips, Elizabeth sought to rescue her dearest sister from her partners uncoordinated, and rather awkward movement. Turning away from her partner as the music changed, allowing both groups of couples to merge for the moment, she took the opportunity to answer his question,
"The moment is only as awkward as you believe it to be, I find dancing to be the most opportune moment to connect with one's partner as long as words to not distract from one's feet "
Her manner of speaking was playful, not meant to scorn or criticize but to tease. Passing a sympathetic smile and a giggle to her sister she hoped for her sake that this young man would take the hint hidden in her jest.

— There was no denying that Lady Catherine had the most delightful gardens. Walking along the flowers, Elizabeth felt as though she could spend hours just taking in the sights. It was nice to have some solitude, if only for a short period. The sight of Mr. Darcy was unexpected, even more unexpected was him being the Lady Catherine's nephew. Having Mr. Darcy and Mr. Collins in the same room was overwhelming at times, so she welcomed the silence and solitude of her walk.
Robb was in town. The militia had certainly made themselves noticed among Meryton, though as she walked through the town, she took note that it was not primarily families of those who were visiting, but those who wished to catch the eye of the men. Blue eyes scanned the crowds for her brother, though there was no sign of him— not yet. Her fingers fiddled nervously in front of her as she continued to eye those walking by. She could hear girls giggling, rushing through to find someone, though was taken back upon feeling a girl about her sister’s height, bump into her.
The Bennets.
She hadn’t met them first hand— only recently had she taken notice of the younger sisters when she had gone to Mr. Bingley’s ball not so long ago. Primarily, those of the younger two sisters and the eldest. One could hardly ignore how Mr. Bingley danced with Jane almost exclusively, while they could also not ignore the younger sisters dancing with nearly every man in the room.
Her eyes found that of the elder sister and a small laugh escaped her lips, shaking her head slightly.
“They’re finding a husband, I presume? Though I wouldn’t have taken you for such sport,”
It was meant to be a jape, though Sansa could immediately feel her cheeks reddening for her lack of introduction. After all, if she had known little about the Bennets, it was likely they knew little, if anything, about her family. Extending a hand towards the woman, she couldn’t help but smile once more.
”Sansa Stark. Ms. Bennet, I presume?”
—There was a sense of familiarity when Elizabeth looked upon the other girl, surely they had seen each other before, but she simply could not remember at the moment.
"With the encouragement from our mother their minds seem to be preoccupied with nothing else. "
Elizabeth laughed, matching her playful tone
" I have other ambitions than to throw my handkerchief at the first officer to walk by, I fear my excitement can never match that of my sisters looking upon a militia of single men."
Elizabeth took her hand with a smile,
"Elizabeth, yes. I pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Stark. Yes she remembered now. It was at Mr. Bingley's ball where she had seen the girl before, while they had not been introduced she was certainly given and overview of their history from the gossiping lips of her mother. They were a rather prominent family it appeared, though they did not flaunt it with arrogance as other guests certainly did. Elizabeth could remember clearly the way she sisters giggled and whispered when they saw her older brother, and the way her mother set off, rather hopelessly, to speak to them about her five single daughters.
"Are you here for your brother?"
She inquired, remembering something being mentioned about her brother and the militia. Elizabeth could only imagine the faces of her sisters when they spotted him in the crowd.
⊰✙∬The silence and the calm atmosphere of the place was soon interrupted by loud noise of the door being slammed closed. It wouldn’t be the first time the blonde simply went into a house without even bothering knocking on the door, but this time she had a real motive to do so.
— “They’re beasts.”
She whispered as she took a peek through the windows, only to see the a couple of dogs still barking on her direction. They just didn’t like her, did they?. While they couldn’t hurt her, they were terribly annoying and it was better to avoid them.
— She jumped, hearing the door slam closed behind her was cause surprise. Even more so was the woman you just walked right in, paying her no mind at all. It was queer behavior to say the least, and incredibly rude on the part of the woman.
"What is the meaning of this?"
Her mind stood somewhere between shock and anger, setting to take offense to her rude behavior. This type of conduct was not even displayed by her frivolous sisters, who were often prone to fits of frustration, as spoiled as they were by their mother.

—London. It certainly differed greatly from the small town of Meryton she was used to. The crowds of people and the general splendor of the city, it was no wonder that Mr. Bingley preferred it to the countryside. Even the balls were grander, perhaps one of the most elegant Elizabeth had seen. Had it not been for the constant begging of her younger sister Lydia, Elizabeth wouldn't be surrounded by some many of rank. While she enjoyed balls greatly, though not nearly as much as her younger sisters, she could not help but feel like an outsider.

— With the militia stationed in Meryton, Elizabeth's walks to and from town were becoming more common. Her youngest sisters begged to visit the officers almost daily and with her mother's weak sympathies towards her favored daughters, the trips up to town increased. She hardly minded, not only did she enjoy the exercise of walking to and from her eyes had been drawn to a rather charming officer by the name of Wickham. While she found his company delightful her manners were far better than those of her sisters, who practically threw themselves at the feet of any handsome officer to past by. It caused great embarrassment to herself on more than one occasion.

Basil Hallward was not the best dancer. He was not the worst, certainly— he was far better than Mr. Collins— but to call him good would be a bit of a stretch. He tended to stay off to the side at a party like this, talking to people rather than dancing, but the hostess— the young woman’s mother— had insisted that he dance with her daughter.
”—Elizabeth, is it?” he asked, warm smile on his lips. "I'm afraid I've been sent to ask you for a dance.”
— Elizabeth turned upon hearing her name, issuing a quick curtsy in greeting to the man,
"And may I inquire as to who sent you? Or is it some secret admirer that must remain anonymous sending you in their place?"
She teased, a playful smile crossing her lips. Asking the question seriously would have been pointless for she already had an answer in her head, there was no doubt in her mind that her mother had been the cause of this arrangement. He was young and handsome enough, the sort Mrs. Bennet loved to flock to, the task of marrying off her daughters was the only thing ever on her mind, especially at balls.

—Her partner was absolutely intolerable, the way he clumsily tripped over his feet and crashed into other couples, it was a scene of embarrassment. Perhaps if Mr. Collins were not so fond of speaking his feet would be in the right places at the right times.
It was an understatement to say that Elizabeth was relieved when the dance finally ended.
You see, he and I are so similar.
It was quite a view the sight of a young petite smiling on her own and laughing, it almost brought a diverting smile on the gilded girl’s lips — she wondered if she, herself, at times looked thus; vague and quixotic. Men were known for their sense, women for their sensibility. What men often -deliberately- chose to ignore was that women could be as rational as them but at times the cost for mere sense would be one’s virginal sweetness and their enjoyableness.
❝If you may pardon me, I would not wish to startle you,❞ the girl started ever sweetly, in the softest manner she could muster. She would hate to catch off guard the girl! And what would Mrs. Bennet say! ❝Mrs. Bennet was kind enough to invite me for tea to-day but funnily enough, she is nowhere near to be seen! Though she told me I was to meet her daughters — or whoever would be present at the moment. I am Lady Myrcella Baratheon by the way and it is, indeed, a great pleasure to make your acquaintance.❞
—Being addressed, Elizabeth quickly stood from her seat turning her attention from her own thoughts to the young woman, who appeared around the same age as herself, who addressed her,
"Elizabeth Bennet."
She curtsied with a smile clear upon her lips,
"Believe me the pleasure is mine my lady, though I am afraid my mother is currently otherwise occupied in a trip to town with my two youngest sisters. I fear she did not mention having company this afternoon, I can only think that she expected you to arrive later or she would not have taken such a trip."
It was odd, normally Mrs. Bennet was ecstatic when there was to be a visitor at Longbourn, especially one of Lady Baratheon's ranking, yet considering the visitor was not a young man of good fortune come to marry one of her many daughters, Elizabeth could see how the meeting would fall behind visiting the encampment in priority.
"If you have no objections you are more than welcome to wait for her return. I do apologize for this conduct is unlike her character."

innocent-delirium started following you
—With her mother and sisters gone to town for the afternoon Elizabeth found some peace in a novel. Far from the garish nature of her siblings her mind allowed itself to relax and forget for a few moments, the business and confusion that had clouded her life recently.
So far she had the privilege of Mr. Collins refraining from dropping in on her, yet he was due back for a visit along with her dearest Charlotte this evening. By then she hoped, her mother and sisters would be back, while she adored Charlotte, the presence of her husband made for rather awkward conversation.
