Basil is terribly ill, but he had plans to see Dorian today and he simply does not want to cancel. it's rare, of course, that he gets to spend time with Dorian any longer, and the fact that he managed to make plans with him is a miracle in itself. He feels silly, wanting to curse whatever force has made him sick on this special day. Rather than allowing the illness to confine him to his bed, he pushes himself up and forces himself to get dressed.
When Dorian arrives, he is fully clothed, but his nose is red and he is having a difficult time breathing. He turns on his heel to face him and tries-- oh, does he try!-- to act as if he's feeling just fine.
Then you haven't YOLO'd! It's an acronym for "You Only Live Once." The idea is to do what you want, when you want to do it. Instant gratification with a hint of suspense and daring!
"Harry, why do I get the feeling you're going to use this to do something awful?"

--For once, Basil isn't going to argue about this one.
— The older’s gaze appeared to be fixed on him, just the look of awe that crossed his features was almost enough to make Dorian laugh, in fact a small chuckle did in fact leave his lips as he broke his gaze with Basil. Perhaps the boy would be bold enough to speak to him, a rare sight it seemed as most simply preferred to stare from afar.
As the teacher’s lips continued to move, Dorian felt himself becoming more and more bored, chin resting in the palm of his hands he felt himself almost falling asleep a number of times before for the gracious sound of a high pitched bell saved him. Running fingers through the messy pile of curls atop his head, he blinked quickly, trying to wake himself up from the boring, and horribly long lecture about Van Gogh. It was not that he hated art or was not interested in it, for it was quite the opposite, it was merely a hatred of how the information was presented. A school setting made even the most interesting of characters seem dull. Bending down to grab his things, his head was suddenly hit with what appeared to be a pencil, no doubt someone had thrown in. Pouting, he picked up the object and lifted his eyes to glance around the room, most of the students had left already, no doubt one decided to do a hit and run.
Basil lifted his hand to his lips to stifle a laugh-- a laugh that surprised even him. The pencil had been his doing, and yet he couldn't help but laugh at the accident. He'd been tapping it on the table, started flicking it too roughly, and it had flown right out of his hand and into Dorian's head. "--I'm sorry!" he called, pushing himself up from his seat at the table and rushing over to Dorian's side. He stopped a bit closer than he'd meant to, his chest almost touching Dorian's, and he had to take a step back. "I didn't mean to hit you with the pencil, it just..." Well, it just happened, didn't it?
"My name is Basil Hallward, and I swear I don't normally throw pencils at people," the older boy replied, holding his hand out to Dorian with a smile on his lips.
I may not NEED to, but why wouldn't I do it anyway? I hope one day you'll realize how brilliant this philosophy is, my dear Basil. I believe it may do you some good.
"--Right, yes, well, you can try to change my mind, but I firmly believe that love and sex should go hand-in-hand. Money's got nothing to do with it." He worries for Henry sometimes. Does he believe a word he says, or does he just like to see the effect he has on people?
"But Basil, you’re so — boring.”
There was a small, impish smile in the wake of his final sentiments, “Ah, but then you are thinking, aren’t you?” Devoid entirely of shame, and perhaps even less— decency— I set myself upon Basil himself, as if he were but the throne upon which I was born to sit. In fact, it was an action so casually pursued that I had no doubt that it would result in his protest— followed by a bout of laughter. “Now then,” I chuckled, turning my head to catch his gaze, “I have it upon the highest authority that the boy truly does appreciate your company very much, indeed.” There was a wolfish smile greeting him now, “If you were but to stop and savor life, I am sure it would reward you in kind.” Watching as his his mind seemed to consider that, I shifted to lift from the perch I had made of his lap, chuckling still as I returned to my own seat, “Perhaps no other Englishman in the world would tolerate me the way you do, Basil.” I turned back to smile at him whilst simultaneously reaching for the tin of cigarettes that laid within my breast pocket.

Basil Hallward stares up at Henry-- his jaw very nearly hitting the floor-- and he closes his mouth, swallowing thickly. Somehow, he hasn't expected this, even with his friend walking towards him, and now he's taking a moment to catch up. When he does, he hears 'stop and savor life', and again he takes a long look at the man who has placed himself on his lap. Is he implying... Basil turns his face away and mutters, "Harry, you are mad. Simply doing as I please is not the way to be rewarded." Bail is one of those who believes that doing good is the way to be rewarded.
When Henry leaves his lap, Basil releases a soft sigh, watching as he walks back to his own seat. "Yes, well, I suppose no other man is as resistant to your philosophy as I am. Other men will not put up with you because they know you will change the way they think."
