Ugh... I'm actually late 🐍🦎

I wanted to make my own version of him. Ria Cawley Adaptation, if you like. Draw Toffee my way — based on the original, but trying to refine it.

Honestly? The way they drew those reptile faces always kinda bothered me. Especially the main villain's. I couldn't watch him without feeling uncomfortable — his head kept changing shape from shot to shot. So I just did my own thing.

About the fangs — still not sure. Depends on context, probably. The whole "sticking out fangs" thing… I don't really see the point. Toffee isn't a croc. He's a lizard. I wanted a cleaner look. I get the original fangs are probably part of his charm, but in my redraw — I just don't see them.

What I do like is the anatomy: the long torso, the short legs. It actually feels like a lizard. No idea if the designers even thought about it, but it works.

I don't really enjoy drawing in the show's actual style, sorry guys. Maybe someday as practice — but not now. I just prefer sharper, more solid body shapes.

These are just messy sketches. I can't make full art at the moment, so I'm sharing whatever process I have. I've struggled with this more than I'd like to admit. Maybe I'll redo some scenes in my style later.

Look at the monsters in this universe: absolutely all of them have sharp teeth. Not just the ones who would have them biologically, but even toads and slimes, who realistically couldn't have them at all. Sure, it's a caricature technique portraying monsters as scary and wild. But these sharp teeth have become their common, unifying trait. They can belong to different species, but the moment they attack, they look like one people.

Let me fantasize a bit about evolution. Imagine a world where monsters constantly fight to survive. Star herself said that monsters must fight with claws and teeth. Those with fewer fangs simply couldn't defend themselves. Only the toothiest ones survived. So those protruding fangs aren't just appearance they're a trace of ancient, brutal natural selection.

And that's why Toffee's fangs mean so much to me. Even when he's well-groomed, with slicked-back hair and an impeccable suit, those protruding fangs give him away: he is first and foremost a monster. A descendant of those who survived. I absolutely love this combination a predator monster in a business suit.

If you refuse to understand who in this setting thinks they must oppress and destroy the people who already live on the land, it is not ignorance in good faith. If you refuse to acknowledge there is a problem with siding with genocidal forces in an “escapism” story created by and for a western imperial audience, that is not escapism you’re allowed to have and insist it has nothing to do with you or how you interact with the world outside of fiction.

Why do so many fans just assume Toffee and all Septarians must want to be the master race and commit genocide against Mewmans? Why did the fandom magically remember the word “genocide” when the apartheid permanently fell? Why does the creator call Toffee a historian like it’s a slur? Why am I supposed to presume these are endless whoopsies and accidents and unintentionalisms on behalf of the crew? Either they’re malicious or profoundly stupid— and these are capable adults with high intensity careers in an unstable market— and no, a person who believes they’re ideologically correct is not exempt from active malice if they think it’s active benevolence 100.

Why is your “escapism” being part of a divinely ordained apartheid occupation? What’s stopping y’all from popping over to the local synagogue and becoming an honorary mewman tomorrow? Why should I believe people who fantasize about being able to do that never would? Why is it absurd of me to dare connect endorsement with manufacturing consent?

There will be no explanation for this art, but there’s plenty of room for your own interpretations..
