Parent-Teacher Conference Day
We have been DYING for parent teacher conference day. It was so nice to hear some details about how our kiddo is doing in school. He's made so much progress in such a short period of time. He's coming to really appreciate art and show enjoyment in making it. That's very exciting for me who has been desperately waiting to do crafts with someone.
His violin teacher said he's showing a "particular talent" with tones and rhythm, and she thinks we should consider pursuing more music lessons for him. That's really nice to know, since I only knew that he was enjoying the violin, but I don't really get to see any of the musical parts... Not that I would be able to tell how that part was going even if I could.
I found out he has his own little shelf at school for his own works, and they're going to start him on a first-third grade reading program soon. The teacher said in 20 some years she's never seen a four-year-old read this well.
And we were thrilled to hear him described as "everyone's friend." I feel so nervous about school yard politics, so it put my mind at ease to hear that he is having lots of positive social time. I have noticed that on the walk to school he acts like a little mayor, waving at everyone and calling them by name, sometimes even by their full name, which I find kinda funny and cute. The teacher said, she's teaching him to decline social invitations when he's deeply invested in a work so he can see that work through. That seems like a valuable life skill as well.
His teacher said she's happy that he's comfortable enough now to start getting in a little trouble, like getting into little tickle fights at circle time. She also seems to understand how to work with him really well. She said when he doesn't want to do something, if she explains why she's asking him to do it like he's 35, that's the best way to get him to go along with it. That's what we've found, too. So, it's nice to see that the teacher is seeing the kid we see at home and is finding similar ways of working with him.
I'm just so happy to see how well he's enjoying his time at school and that the teacher seems to really get him and enjoy teaching him. Thank you for letting me shamelessly gush about my kiddo.
