and that’s really the point. the player people expected to win didn’t win. if those supposedly tougher opponents were so clearly better in these particular tournament conditions, they would still be in the draw. but they aren’t. that’s what tournaments are. players lose, conditions matter, matchups matter, pressure matters. the finalist is the person who survived the draw that actually existed, not the hypothetical one people wish had happened. nobody gets handed a place in a final. you still have to go out there and win every match in front of you.

Wins her semifinal match against Diana Shnaider (7-6(4), 6-4) at the 2026 French Open. She advances to the finals to meet the 8th seed Mirra Andreeva. This is only her third main draw at a grand slam yet Maja is the second qualifier after Emma Raducanu in 2021 to make it to a grand slam final. She was ranked World No. 114 and is now at a new career high of World No. 21 in the live rankings currently. If she wins Roland-Garros, she will be amongst the top 15
