and that’s really the point. the player people expected to win didn’t win. if those supposedly tougher opponents were so clearly better in these particular tournament conditions, they would still be in the draw. but they aren’t. that’s what tournaments are. players lose, conditions matter, matchups matter, pressure matters. the finalist is the person who survived the draw that actually existed, not the hypothetical one people wish had happened. nobody gets handed a place in a final. you still have to go out there and win every match in front of you.
